- Woozer! This was a TOUGH hike! Believe it when it says "extremely strenuous" in the description. We got off the ship early to meet up for this hike and literally stepped foot back on the ship at 4:35, departure time was 4:30, and we needed every minute. We highly recommend this hike with the exception of two 'cons'. There was not a restroom facility once you left the port shopping area unless you count behind a tree. Secondly, the lunch fare was not the best. I actually like ham sandwiches but they had been sitting in the sun a bit and did not look appetizing. I got one and ate about half but most people didn't even attempt it figuring they were an hour from the cruise buffet! Good call:). Let me know if you have any questions or comments. Thank you for this I am taking this excursion from Vision of the Seas in 3 weeks. I was wondering what to expect. This helped me so much.
Would you recommend bug spray? And would binoculars be worth the extra weight? Is there enough to see with them?
Did you book your excursions through the ship?
Kimberly Clayton Hey Kimberly! Yes, we booked through the ship. Actually we always do because I’m always nervous about being late and missing sail. I like the security that comes from booking through the cruise😬🤪

It’s too bad it seems that every video for this hike seems to gain the crater rim but not the actual summit. Any idea why that is? Still seems worthy of a tropical lofty view and I will pack some extra snacks.
Hey Tim! Sadly, I had no idea until you just said that that we didn't actually go to the 'summit'...Lol! I was probably dying of thirst and starvation to notice. JK! It was an amazing hike and I totally recommend it but, yes, pack snacks and practice bladder control:)
Those are some tough looking hiking trails, but a beautiful sight. I see Steve has two sticks was one for fighting off all that wild life?
Hahahaha! We didn't see any wildlife except for the monkey that I MISSED! Lol! Honestly Kelly...it was a really tough hike. It wasn't just the ascent to the top it was the speed in which our guide led us. After the fact I realized that she had to go at that speed or we would have missed the ship. As it was we were about 5 minutes late and Steve and I fast walked from the time we got dropped off at the port to assure we wouldn't miss departure. Was it worth it? Yes:).
