That female chemical specialist reminded me of a time I hired two men to work on my house. They were trying to put a light fitting up and were having trouble figuring it out. (They reminded me quite powerfully of Laurel and Hardy at this point.) I said “Aren’t you supposed to thread the cable through that part?” to which they condescendingly replied “Leave it to us, love. We know what we’re doing.” Eventually they figured it out - one said “Oh, she’s right. We need to thread the cable through this part.” I folded my arms, raised one eyebrow and pulled a mock moue, and to their credit they did laugh at themselves.
I don’t think Jared had Bill’s best interest at heart. He was just being a jerk. This wasn’t the first encounter the customer had with him where he suspected shenanigans. Good thing you were able to help him be rid of the idiot. Must have been a relief to all those who’d had to deal with him.
I really dislike people who insist on being a hero because they are usually not being a hero but a jerk or a busybody. Real heroes don't insult they have facts about the situation and they don't go doing something just to make themselves look good.
The teli-talk one is terrifying. I have a physical disability that causes speech issues and sometimes have to use that service. Users are so dependent on people like that and abusing their place (even with good intentions) is awful!
I remember when I was a trainee mechanic... I was never taken seriously even when people came in for basic stuff like tyre/wheel replacements, oil changes and brake pad changes... I lost all interest in cars within two years of it though, and my life long car passion died...
I just posted this separately, and then I read your post.... I'm sorry your passion got crushed, because some men are too insecure to recognize and admit that a woman may potentially know more about something that's generally perceived as masculine, than they know about it themselves... My wife runs a precision machine shop. She's worked there since she was a little kid. Her dad started it, and she took over with her brother when her dad retired. Her brother runs the office and sales side of things, she is head of the actual machine shop part of it herself. She knows more about those cylinder heads than anyone else on the work floor. The amount of times men walk into her shop, and ask for "one of the guys" to help them with questions etc, is absolutely mind-boggling. They will talk to the guys, who will turn to my wife cause she's the only one that knows most answers, only for the customer to STILL only acknowledge the male employee, whom is pretty much just acting as the middle-man in those situations.... So many men seem to instantly discredit her, just because she's a woman in a predominantly male-heavy industry... they could really stand to learn a LOT from her, if only their massive egos would let them recognize the fact that a woman with 20+ years of experience, may very well know more about the thing she's specialized in than someone she hired to do just a small part of it. At the same time, her employees have massive respect for her, and treat her well!
@@xNagisaChan thanks for your post, I was only a trainee at the time, I wouldn't claim to say I know more about anything than anyone else but I knew how to unfasten the bolts of a wheel and put them back on, it wasn't even hard with an impact wrench or even the big bar we often used to turn the really tight nuts. Mechanic work is very very easy if you are passionate about it and willing to read the manual, but some of the customers just refused to listen if you didn't fit the "mechanic stereotype", I was a tomboyish geek...
I have a few things to add to the phone scammer one from my professional experience. I have been an ASL interpreter for 30 years. I worked video relay service for 11 for three different companies. 1. TRS and VRS are not the same. TRS has to read pretty much exactly what they are saying. We literally can’t do that because it’s interpreting, not transcription. 2. Neither Deaf nor hearing people have to pay for either VRS or TRS. We all pay for it via the $0.75 surcharge on either cell or landline phones. The FCC has been clear about this from the beginning 3. If We are not 3rd party. We are an access accommodation under the ADA. 4. As much as we may want to we cannot advise any caller - even if it is a scam and we know it for sure. Even if it is a “what would YOU get on your pizza?” There is absolutely no wiggle room for what the operator did. Good for you OP for doing something immediately.
I had to pause the first story because I was close to laughing hysterically at the clear & present threat that OP was about to be taken to the "loony bin" 🤣🤣🤣
Glad you are feeling better. And you gave me a bit of a timeline. Today is my first day since last Monday with no fever. I lost my voice Thursday (the day I had an oral exam in Spanish class lol). If you got your voice back after a week then mine should be back in 3 days or so. Encouraging to know
I like it when people get their high and mighty attitudes shoved right back in their face. At least Kevin (last story) had enough decency to admit (internally) he was wrong, and deal with OP human to human.
That last one is gold xD I would have loved to be in that room as they looked at each other and didn't break eye contact while indirectly putting that guy in the spot.
The nurse story reminds me of a hospital I used to work in that was haunted by a nun. Aa far as I know, it still is. When the nurses would do their late night rounds, it was common for patients to say they didn't need anything because "Sister was in and did it." But there hadn't been nuns on staff in years.
We did have someone use the teletype service to try to scam the store I worked at. They had succeeded in one store and moved on to another. By this point, all of the stores in the franchise had been informed of what was going on, so when the operator began going into the "spiel" (I can't remember the details), I immediately saw a red flag. Trying to get the operator's attention took some doing since you're not supposed to talk to them, but she listened when I mentioned it was a scam.
The last one... My mom had a person in the bank she worked as the central teller, and had been called for an issue, and they demanded the MANager... the issue was the service manager was a woman, as was the branch manager... and the district manager was also in the branch (also a woman). They decided to deal with my mother.
Glad you're feeling better. I have also been sick going on 2 weeks now. I had one type of cold and it was almost gone then I caught what ever my youngest has. I always catch any colds f That come near my house lol.
That TTY operator. 🤦🏻♂️ I only ever had one get out of line so to say. Customer was using very strong profanity so he apologized to me and said he’s only saying what the customer said. I said no worries we are all good and continued like normal.
About 20 years ago I ran a small internet support staff. I had a girl that was awesome in supporting Microsoft products. We had a policy that when the phone rings, one of my tech supports kids would answer the phone instead of going through an operator or switchboard. The caller did not want to talk to a "secretary" so it got escalated to me. We chatted, and I said I can help you, or another can help you, but when we need help we go to the girl that answered the phone and then asked what he wanted. They ended up talking and resolved the issue. The downside is my girl was a bit upset. We both took a break and talked about the situation. There is no good answer and you get unfavorable calls from time to time.

I was thinking the OP of the "scammer" story had a Hindi heritage and was suspected of being a scammer because of that. Unfortunately scammers did give Indian call support people a bad reputation.
Awwwee, I'm glad to hear your voice again, but I can say this for every viewer that we don't mind you taking care of your health before anyone else's entertainment
When it comes to people calling me up, if they’re from someone I owe money I will always, and I mean always say I think they’re a scammer since they called me and I don’t know who they are. Most the time they’re legitimately people working for the collections, but it’s a good and plausible way to give them the run around for a few days while I come up with money.
Aww shit darkfluff sorry to hear about that throat infection but glad it's getting better!!! I have been battling a sinus infection for a few weeks so I dont blame you taking the time needed for personal health. YOU DO NOT RE-INSERT A CANNULA! You have to trash the one that came out and usually the entire IV tube and any bags attached. They are considered to be contaminated and reinsertion is asking for a major infection.
i see a woman at a construction site i immediately think in this order; 1.contractor 2. owner 3. supervisor 4. clerk/secretary 5. worker this is more out of the fact that the majority of women ive worked with tend to have higher educations then men due to not usually being able to just fall back on physical labor.

It's strange how quick people are to label you a liar. 1. The sheets are covered in blood...but from WHERE? and 2. The cannula has been reinserted. Properly. Most unlikely the patient could do it her/himself, right? especially in their current condition and 3. Why would you automatically assume someone is lying when right before your eyes you have proof something has happened to the patient? That matches what you can objectively discern? If there is a discrepancy which doesn't match your view of current reality, you need to re-check your own view.
