Avogadro isn't such a terrible miss, since while *names* don't play, units named after chemists do. With Newton, Curie, Becquerel, Rutherford in CSW, Coulomb, Sievert, Henry, Siemens...
To me it seems the most likely way you let this pass is if you foggily remember Avogadro from chemistry class but not well enough to remember that it's Avogadro's number, and not a unit of measurement etc
For sure, and in fact that's basically what happened to David -- he recognized the term from somewhere in science but couldn't quite place it, and ended up letting it go
On the GUMP play I legitimately thought for a second Joey was going to play ZOE which would have been one of the most ridiculous phony attempts I've ever seen.
This past weekend in NYC I had the chance to play Larry Sherman (brother of Joel), who challenge LAIRIER which I found funny given I read it as Larry-er
Wow! Glad to hear Larry still plays though, I used to play him all the time when I lived in NYC but haven't been back to club there in 5 years and haven't seen him play any tournaments since then. We had some crazy games haha
I don't get why people should be unhappy to see their phony name stay on the board; if anything, I'd probably feel honored or just find it funny! But I guess it's a kind of facepalm moment that one really doesn't wanna see at the top level of their profession?
1st example in the video - Josh absolutely let his intrusive thoughts win. Brilliant, I love it. Also, on his turn there are 8 tiles on the board, and 2 out of 8 of them are T’s. And yet, crazily enough, with his DDEMNOS rack there is still no spot for ODDMENTS because it’s such a closed board. I can’t help but wonder if a bit of frustration with that contributed to his decision to phoney there, or if it was purely to capitalize on a once-in-a-lifetime hilarious phoney opportunity. Also curious whether it was a bit of a cheeky troll move and whether he was half surprised to see it go unchallenged.
Mack's just flaunting the fact that his name is valid
I mean, it is pretty cool :)

WEBER
I will never understand why THOSE are words, but “boolean” isn’t.
To have DESMOND on your rack right after you played TUTU is so insane lool, and of course Josh couldn't resist playing it
There was one time when I had the horrendous rack of ADIILVV and I tried the bingo of VIVALDI
Yikes! I assume you didn't get away with it?
@@mackmeller I didn’t get away with it :(
I did get away with BACH in a different game
@@ValkyRiver Hmm... maybe you got away with BACH because it's a word? 😉
@@mackmeller Wait BACH is valid?
@@ValkyRiver yep! it's a verb meaning to be a bachelor I'm pretty sure. Note that BACHS* is not valid, only BACHES
12-year-old Jason tried to play the "word" GAIL* against a person named Gail. Guess how well that went?
"that's not a le-gail play!"
I've still yet to play FIREFLY as a bingo (which makes sense), I wonder if I should play against BeginnerBot just to fish it lol
2:41 yet GUMP is playable in CSW lol
Had no idea! wow
Yea i played it several times, was kinda baffled when comes to this part
On the GUMP play I legitimately thought for a second Joey was going to play ZOE which would have been one of the most ridiculous phony attempts I've ever seen.
Haha I've seen a ZOE extension to TROPE to make ZOETROPE though!
And alternative spelling ZOOEY is valid!
7:08 I’ve played BRUCE* before, reasoning that it’s a noun for BRUTAL or a synonym of BRUTALNESS
Edit: Facepalm… BRUTALITY, not BRUTALNESS*
I played WALDO in a recent game.

2:46 i never thought that life is a box of chocolates would show up in my scrabble content 😅

I think Mack missed the point of Joey's comment lol
Haha yeah probably a bit of both!

Yeah I noticed the ODDMENTS thing too, crazy! And will have to let Josh himself speak to his motive/thought process here haha
CSW would allow ODDSMEN. Also, DESMOND is vaguely plausible in the UK as it is slang for a lower second class university degree (a 2:2, or 'Tutu').
a phony I tried of this ilk was HOUDINI*
That's a good one! I think it's a Dua Lipa song too now haha
Can’t wait for Joey to play joey in one of his games (I’m too lazy to check)
I'm quite confident it's happened! I know I've played JOEY against Joey multiple times in our blitz matches haha
Scrabble against Joey but the only tiles are J O E Y
wait, so Bruce isn’t a word? Then what was Robert (Robert the Bruce)
ok ALEXANDER is somehow valid lol, but not ALEX*, but hilariously another short form of this name ZANDER is valid, coincidence?
Sokol is actually a Word
My first name is a word, but only in CSW. I have played it in a game once!
Ah cool, had no idea!
8:23 should have just played JA(C)K and fished for N (or N?)
Yeah, sad :(
1:57 haven’t you used this phony in another vid
Yep! But it was too fitting not to reuse here :)
@@mackmeller ah! Since you didn’t mention it I thought you forgot lol
It's a pity that BIDEN* and OBAMA* are not valid😋
gotta settle for TRUMP, BUSH, and GORE i guess
In German Scrabble, OBAMACARE is valid 😀
We also have NIGEL as a valid word. Unfortunately Nigel doesn't know (yet?)
There is KAMALA
@@johnwilder4789 It's also a Finnish word, it means "terrible".
