I had an HP Omen Obelisk that was a thermal throttle nightmare. I finally got sick of it and did a case swap with a Noctua cooler. Some of the Omen smaller cases are just horrible.
Great Job. I have OMEN 30L and i replaced mine with smaller Noctua and added the razer controller but i just hit enter to bypass the fan errors lol " HP bios sucks". I get temps after undervolting my cpu i get around 50c with the glass on when its off 40c the case just purley sucks.
Thanks! My only regret was not checking to see how much lower I could have gotten temps with the stock cooler, simply adding plexiglass and side intake. In the near future, I may build a new PC and return this to stock, before testing that method and re-selling. Appreciate ya!
Oof, I don't remember that but don't doubt it! Were they laptops? When I think 2000s computing, the first thing that comes to mind is "Dude get a Dell" 😆

Yes, but not without equal effort IMO. This DIY can save you a few bucks and drop temps 30C. Lmk if u want me to build on anything , been thinking about covering more of this mod. Thanks for watching!
HP's Omen is seriously handicapped by its case design. Reducing cpu clock speed and voltage can help drop cpu temp 15-20* C, but you give up part of the reason that you made the purchase to begin with. (Mine dropped from mid-high 70s down to mid 50s while idling or with a couple tabs open at the same time.) I haven't swapped out the stock air/heatsink cooler yet, but will try a Corsair AIO soon. If that doesn't make big difference, I'll at least install a 120 exhaust fan in the top like in this video, and add one in the bottom to draw air into the case.
Hi, I am also having issues with temps. Would you have any suggestions on a more simple cpu fan replacement that would help reduce the temps? I am not tech savy enough to do everything you did in the video.
The absolute best bang for your money and time would be to add intake to side after replacing glass w plexiglass. This would dramatically reduce temps since it's starved of cool air. In the next few months I'm probably going to build a new rig. And alongside that endeavour I will revert mine to stock and produce a vid solely around that mod before selling it.
@@manicmods currently having this problem with my Omen 30L (rtx 3080, i7-10700k) where cpu temps can reach up to mid 90s on some games!. this has forced me to change the power plan and lower the "max processor power" to 99%, this fixed the temp but performance also dropped by a lot, so 100% would be more preferable. Im not exactly a tech expert myself, and have only really installed ssds on computers before. do you still reccomend i go this route? would it probably reduce temps on my cpu by a fair amount? (i also have the stock AIO installed) Thanks!
@@legendteigen461 Almost identical vuild and problem. TBH I think the intake was equally relevant to my temp drop. If you are handy and wanted to replace your glass with plexi as I did in video, you should see a drastic difference.
@@manicmods thanks for the suggestion! I might consider trying it. But i wouldn't exactly call myself gifted in being handy aswell. Could there be other methods to improve my situation? Id like to be able to use more of my CPUs "utilization" without it reaching temperatures in the 90*c. Thanks!
Thanks! Feel free to drop me a line on Reddit, linked below. I've also just picked up a second side-cover to retrofit a fan in. I want to find out how much cooler the stock radiator would run with a side intake. Since I already have the Noctua, my plan is to offer it to a community member for testing and collaboration 😁 www.reddit.com/user/manicmods
Hi! Im having temp problems with my 30l even after undervolting it. My r9 5900x is running at 90 celsius in some games and being really really noisy. I currently have the omens stock mini aio cooler but I would like to get it replaced with an air cooler. Do you have any suggestions what air cooler I can fit into it nicely without any other work. Price can be upto 100€. Thanks in regard!
TBH I think the intake was equally relevant to my temp drop. If you are handy and wanted to replace your glass with plexi as I did in video, you should see a drastic difference. I know others have used smaller noctua air coolers, and I'd suggest looking to them as they may have also modified airflow to them.
OMG!! Nice work but we shouldn’t have to do this!! It’s almost comical the amount of work you did lol. HP should watch this in shame 😢 Thanks for the vid.
Thanks for watching! To be fair, this is an extreme method to super cool the CPU. It was my "go big, go home" approach to fixing the problem, and super happy with how cool and quiet it is now. If you have a 30L, you should see a dramatic difference by only replacing the glass with plexi to add an intake fan where it matters most. This can be done cheaply in ~1 hour. I'm strategizing to test and publish this solution since it's a much less aggressive approach. LMK if you have a similar Omen. The more in need, the more I will feel pressured to offer the less manic solution 😅
@@manicmods I have the 30L with the AMD 5800x and an AMD 6600xt card. Stock liquid cooling and fans. What’s strange is it’s only certain games that make it turn into a hover craft on fire. Back in the early 2000's HPs would catch fire on the production line while being imaged... Let that sink in for a moment.😂

Is it really that bad to have this computer at 90°C ? I’ve read everywhere it’s okay as long as it does go above 90°
If you have same i7, it should be fine at 90 and under. Mine was exceeding that and the fan would be unbearably noisy at that temp.
