Retired law enforcement and just a tip for anyone that runs.
If you run with headphones make sure they are like the AirPods Pro and have the surround “transparency” mode. Where your surroundings are heard and not using active noise canceling.
Being able to hear is so important with knowing your surroundings. Way too many weirdos out there.

    • @StevenRockwood

Keep all of humanity in your prayers if you are willing to be so frivolous with your words. Do you say one prayer for her, then her dad, switching it up to oneself and own family then just go down the line? I don't get religion and really do not want to! ... 🤔 ... It's all just words to me. As well, this is a little offensive because after these past seven days you have probably forgot all about your comment and it has now totally evaded your mind. How many times have you written this to different TH-camrs in the last seven days? You threw it out so fast I bet you it's a whole lot. Do you say this to all persons on the internet who may need a religious uplift? Just saying! 🙁 ...

This is exactly what we are going through now. My parents are retired and looking for a house for all of us that doesn't have property tax that will kill us every month. It is disgusting that they get away with this. And I see so many homes that are for foreclosure and auction that are beautiful and it is because people don't do they're homework and they think they can just buy these gorgeous homes without having any other payments. My son is also looking and is getting a hard lesson learned to. He thought oh I am buying this awesome house and then I showed him what his mortgage truly is with taxes and he turned white. I guess they don't teach that in HS.

People out here are really struggling and people acting like money ain’t sh!t is one thing that just don’t make me feel good. Where you started and where you are now is such an inspiration. I am a Mom of adult boys who are now fathers. When the boys were little I used to walk through the neighbor with them every evening. I swear that’s when they would tell me, really tell me about their school day and stuff. You know how most of the time you ask kids how their day was and I they say fine or OK. There is something about walking silently, not asking questions they start opening up to you and really talking about how things are going

At one time I would have breezed right over that compared to two toddlers! But now that I have my little guy omg he is a full time job alone! I always tell him & anyone else that he is more of a ‘terror’ than the girls were at any phase of ‘our’/their lives! Lol! Caring for the fur babies definitely belongs on any list of ‘things keeping someone insane I mean busy’! lol!

@Christina Randall, hi there a couple of cheap ideas about the house you are going with:
    1. Get a side by side with a winch dont waste money on a golf cart that will get stuck.
    2. Sounds like you have a 2 storey house. Have them build the garage to match up with the house. I say this because its super cheap to build up, then it is to go wider.
Also the second storey in the garage would make room for your gym, xmas decore, or whatever you guys may have.
    3. Ask for higher ceilings. I know it sounds silly but by asking for higher ceilings you can add more cupboards, more cupboards in the kitchen and the pantry. Im talking 3 ft higher just enough for a second set of cabinets. You can even have them set a second set of cabinets in the garage, above the first set for more pantry space.
Also by doing this in a house, you can have privacy windows, what i mean is the windows in certain areas may be a higher so pple cant see in but you still get all that natural sun light.
    4. Also this will increase your floor plan on the main floor of your garage. Id also put in huge garage doors atleast 1 maybe 2. You never know future wise if an rv or truck may not fit in the smaller bays. Why do things twice. Plus Jeremy may want a little bay to himself to work on cars, bikes etc until you can get a shop or pole barn built for him.
    5. Look at Brad the builders youtube channel. Heck reach out to him and tell him Ryan sent you. Hes got some excellent ideas that wont break the bank. And he LOVES pantries and may even be able to find a way to sneak yours back in there for you. He also loves pole barns etc for tinkering.
    6. Dont forget, getting a bigger property, that you will definitely need more equipment, like these for instance, a side by side, atvs, riding lawn mower, stuff for hurricaneseason etc. You may eventually want a boat or rv for camping and water days.
    7. Just remember building up is always cheaper then building outwards. You can always build a pole barn for all the toys and shop for the bigger stuff.
    8. A studio and office just for you with extra insulationing that sound deadens. This could even go above the garage on that second floor i was talking about, and if its near a water pipe you could even put a powder room there for pretty cheap.
    9. You may also want to make sure you are clear from all trees hitting your home, but also from their roots getting in your plumbing. Also drainage, you may want to put drainage all the way around your house that way it stands the best chance in a flood/hurticane.
    10. Also you may want to think about an extra room. I say this because we all have family members who age and their partners pass away and they just cant be alone due to sadness or just medical issues. I strongly urge door ways wide enough for wheelchairs/walkers and bathrooms and other common areas having wide doorways or open floor plans.
Enjoy the small things in life, the things that dont cost money like friends and family and making memories. Those are what truly matters.
I love your channel and love what you are about, thank you for just keeping things real and being yourself. Always remember to love yourself, its not selfish or wrong, but loving yourself and who you are, enables you to be there for everyone you choose to love you. Dont let anyone get that twisted lol.
Keep up the fantastic and hard work and check out brads youtube channel hes got a lot of tips for building. Take care and I'll catch you on your next video.

We have no housing cost worries as we moved to the countryside so can focus on helping our son, treating ourselves, thinking about assisting charities - and enjoying free or low cost stuff - walking with our dog 🏃🏻‍♀️included. We just bought a new double wide, (I know, not everyone’s dream home but it was mine) and the one thing I love about it is the open concept I can cook and talk to whomever is in the living room,
also my old house didn’t have a laundry room, (washer & dryer was in kitchen) and a small butlers pantry the old house barely had cabinets for dishes! we were blessed that my in-laws gifted us a little pc of land to put it on we’re right next door to them so that’s nice! It’s not a million dollar home but we went with what we could afford, we’re 40 & 45 and don’t want to be House broke! We want to be able to retire comfortably! So I completely understand about the things you really want in a house!

This makes me feel so much better about my own situation. We are stuck in a cruddy apartment and the way finances are bc of old debts and bad decisions we are trying to do damage control. It's so freaking discouraging when I see rentals we can "afford" but know in the back of my mind that we would get either further behind and i know that, right now, we're just gonna hang out. Tough it out so we don't have to question if we can afford rent or groceries until we get out credit situated to buy. Thank you for that

Girl, I feel you with this! My husband is in the Navy and we move every 3 years. We were very lucky to be able to buy a house in North Carolina 3 years ago, and we just recently sold it for about 36% more than we paid for it. The money is a nice little nest egg, but we recently had the talk about to buy or not to buy in our next location. We decided not. We could afford to buy a house for about $500,000 in our new state, but the way the market is, it's almost a guarantee that the market would drop and we wouldn't be able to get even $300,000 for it in 3 years when we move again. So boo, we're renting. But we can afford that and keep our nest egg. Ugh, adulting! I hate it lol

My husband and I wanted to do that but were quoted a years wait until a plot was available so we ended up buying a 10yr old house which I think worked out for the better bc my friends with new builds have had a lot of issues because of how quickly the houses are put up. Some things just do not make sense when it comes to having all of your debts paid and still being forced to pay for intangible things. but you’re right. I’d be fine with taxes if we had something to show for it but we don’t. We’re the 3rd highest taxed county in Illinois but the money definitely doesn’t appear to be used correctly.

We.built our custom home 4 years ago. Moved in 3 years ago. It was before the supply.chain issues and the materials price jump that went along with that issue. It is a lot to take in to consideration, with all the added expenses that go along with all of that. Luckily we used a piece of land we had and I was able to do everything I have ever dreamed of (hubby is such a sweet man and spoils me....lol) but if we didn't have this piece of land previously, there absolutely no way we could justify our home.

Home surge protection with generator. Garage flop sink, garage apoxy floors. Pot filler.

Your reasoning and perspective is wise, broad, and sound. It’s so refreshing to see an adult on TH-cam making big difficult life decisions with a very mature, grounded, and well-reasoned thought process. For all the reasons you said, and more and for whatever it’s worth, I wholeheartedly agree with your choice.
It does hurt at first to be so close to dream idea and then not have it in the end. And that is ok to feel that through and grieve the idea.
Girl, you be come such a loooooooong way in this short lifetime of yours thus far.
I’ve been long time viewer since way back, and I could honestly not be more proud of you. Most adults who didn’t have the early life obstacles you did, don’t even get this far (I mean inner-self development and maturity) by 65.

Running can be so scary - I love hearing that you’re going to be able to make this work and the house is going to be BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! I think you made the correct choice. $2,000/mo for just the base to keep you safe (home owners) and pay the state is a lot. That doesn’t include the cost of running your property, nor does it include your utilities!
My fave part was hearing that you’re going to be able to run (which I know is *so* important to you) on your own property, because people are insane and we want you safe, but also *feeling* safe is so so important.
I really am so excited to watch you through this journey.
Sending love to you, your family and your dad during his recovery. Blessed be you got his ac up and running! How is his dog doing?
Also, bless you and Jeremy for helping your gma pay in homeowners… like you said, you never know!!!!
