They could have just made dark icons+light icons and letting users put apps anywhere on the screen, and on top of that add an option to download and add a .ico file for the icons. That's what people want. I think the problem they are trying to solve with tinting is the inability to use dark icons for every app, apps might not support it. By allowing for that option, they can force all apps to have a dark icon. However, they are also releasing AI features like creating your own emojis, they could have just as easily allowed machine learning to understand what is depicted on the app icon and design a dark version of that. I would prefer the former, but still that would be a better option than what we are getting rn. Also people having their own unique style was a trend even before iphone released imho, right now the trend amongst young people are more like fitting into an "aesthetic" (cottage core, girl gamer, cyberpunk etc). They should have spent more time researching how young people set up their phones, computers etc. and gotten inspiration from that.
A better way for Apple to do this is to have some pre-set icon color choices. That way Apple gives users a few curated choices (keeping the 'Apple design standard') and it gives users some more freedom.
I totally agree but i do also think that it also depends on the individual to make it look good, i personally think the white tint on the apps look quite alright and i the big icons are a good addition too. Great video!
i agree with you, but the desire from apple users such as myself to just be able to costumize as i wanted. solution for that would be jailbreaking. with shortcuts, it became possible, but not ideal if ykwim. i get your point from an enterprise/brand perspective, but honestly i have a good feeling about the update
