Trevor White it didnt work for me, i followed the video and just got the message that say something like "windows couldnt keep your files while repairing windows" and it gave me some repairing options. none of them were what is was looking for
I don't understand. It has worked for everybody else I know and have communicated with. It has always worked on Win 8 and Win 10 OS Systems. What computer faults did you have before trying update as per video ??
Britec you truly are a Windows guru. Your videos are excellent. You have shown me tweaks and fixes other experts could not. Reinstalling Windows 10 without data lost was an amazing find for me. I second Trevor's comment below. My problem was looping at startup causing the computer to shut down every time it was started after being turned off. Had to constantly use USB flash repair tool to revert back to previous backup to start the computer. Fair warning this process can take hours to download and complete. Well worth the time. All programs and files remained intact. Thanks again for your valuable service!
For example if i have a game size 10gb on My H: drive and i reinstall the windows on C:drive and it delete my all shortcuts including the game's shortcut on desktop will it also delete my Whole game that is install on my H:drive

I had a sound issue on my laptop after a Win 10 update and I tried everything to no avail nothing worked. I was even consulting a Microsoft agent and he was walking me through many things to fix for about 3 hours and nothing. My local computer store said I needed to backup my pc and pay them 90 dollars to reinstall Windows. Not only would i have to backup my laptop which means buying a 5tb hardrive but I'd also have to reinstall everything on a laptop which had been wiped. But...this video saved me about 300 dollars and so much time. Thanks to this video my sound works again. Only 6 minutes and the fix for my laptop which bypassed so many man hours and cost. BRO YOURE THE ONLY WHO FIXED MY WINDOWS UPDATE PROBLEM. Other videos had too many steps (opening cmd, registry, etc) and i always end up with errors. Bruh just literally reinstall windows 10 and all fix. awesome

@@prasannabaviskar2377 nope. i did this and it kept saying windows 10 installation failed. if thats ur case, try doing a reset (can be found in the settings) then yes your computer will be reformated. for safety, backup ur files first

Hi, how do i exactly set default the speakers? mine only says realtek digital audio output after we resetted the pc, the speakers isn't working anymore even tho it's plugged. I also tried updating the drivers but nothing seems to work need help pls
U are a life saver!!! Started this journey after cloning my boot drive (with jay's two cents help) to go from a 2.5 inch ssd to an m.2 nvme ssd, because my mobo only has 2 sata conectors active if u have 2 x m.2 nvme ssd installed in it and I needed them for 2 x HDDs. And since it's spring cleaning and my windows had annoying bugs I searched for this solution. I avoided sooooooo many hours of work reinstalling an enormous amount of programs. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this guide. I saw a reddit post that this method might fix my valorant low fps issue and it did. Before doing this fix, my 5900x + 3080 was running at 100-150fps with some drops to 90's and low gpu/cpu usage but after repairing my windows it doesn't drop 300fps anymore.
this works. the microsoft download menu is different now. You have to install the Installer first to get you going, then install is pretty much as described. It took me about 3 hours to reinstall.
Guys, Look at my luck: Yesterday I got the windows 10 ( 1909 ) update and I forgot that I had lots of videos ( data ) and I just went in to do the update, When I started the update I remebered that I was goint to lose the 78 videos I had in it, I was so sad and like hopeless, so I just went to the bed of how sad I was. Today, I woke up and I saw that my pc was turn off, it runned out of battery and once I charged my pc and turned him on, the PC had just stopped the update and returned to the old form, Im not lying, The pc just saved my ass, I though he would continue the update, after the charge, but no thankfully, It just gave me another oportunity and I had to the update again. Anyways, Thanks for the video, after the massive luck I got, I still needed to see how I could save my data, and this video helped me alot, It worked, and all went fine. " Today, was a good day " :)

@@sureshsambana641 Sorry this is a late reply, but yes! If you do everything in this video the exact same way as he does, then it should save everything. All your basically doing is repairing any files that may be missing or corrupt, it shouldn’t delete any games or game data that you already have.

I promise you won't lose any apps/programs/data/settings (normally) I cannot comment on games as I am not a gamer - but everything else will be fine. I have done this for over 20 friends without a hassle (can't guarantee games though)
I got a trogan virus and had kapersky remove it. My computer was still running so slow afterwards. Tried resetting my PC and wiping everything didn't work. But I see this video and this made my computer run silky smooth. You are God and I thank you for saving my laptop.

Wow how lucky I was to find this. I was unable to run windows 10 updates. Contain error 0x8007000d. Tried so many things to correct the problem, nothing worked. This is a blessing. I did not want to have to load up programs or re setup windows. It took one hour. Thanks you!!! This fixed a driver issue I was having after the last Windows update on 3/23/20. I had tried updating drivers. I had no sound or mic. Following this video I was able to fix my driver issue without losing data.
Although five years old and Britec09 has posted an alternative since, this tutorial is still very much valid. My windows 10 installation was taking over two minutes to wake from sleep, it was driving me up the wall. I tried numerous 'How to speed up windows startup' guides, non of which worked. This does, but it takes a long time, at least a couple of hours in my case, but I am so pleased to find this and wouldn't hesitate to follow this again. Startup from sleep is now three seconds! My 2 year old Win 10 Asus laptop got whacked after an update. I tried sys restore, No GO! Tried Repair start up and advanced trouble shooting- (it told me my password was wrong) stopped me dead ! This method, my friend. seems to have worked like a charm. My data appears to be intacted !! thumbs up !!

Thank you , some of my drivers were corrupted and I thought the only way out was to reset pc option but I wasn't sure what I would loose pressing that button until I saw this video and I am glad that I found this video before doing anything stupid
same. i got a insiders update but then the update got over i was looking at my pc. start menu, search, settings, action center wasnt working and after few minutes the speakers are gone. until i found this video it saved me.
My laptop was taking half an hour too boot up and it was incredibly frustrating. I suspected it might have something to do with the windows. I followed this method and it worked!! used this method a couple of days ago (july 2021 so it still works great) on my desktop i built a few years ago. kept getting blue screens and not booting properly. thought i may need a new hard drive so i tried this as a last resort, worked perfectly. installed the latest win 10 version as well as all the updates, no more blue screens and windows boots great and a lot quicker as well. thanks britec you saved me the price of a new hdd.

You can use a CD or USB all you have to do is when it shows were to install Windows select the primary installation then select next then after it open windows.old then drag all the files you need out of the users folder

This is exactly what I needed but I cannot access the desktop and you are saying that this would only work if you have access to the GUI desktop. I have tried restore points, fix startup problems to no avail. Can you do what you are showing in the above video but at the prompt. I do have access to the prompt and I have a USB bootable with windows 10. The objective is to not lose the applications or the files. What Microsoft is proposing by keeping files but not the apps is a bit off the wall and unrealistic. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

2:02 i have something to say I did same thing today because all of my games started lagging without no reason i checked driver updates. But fortunately my pc has latest driver and windows update Then i tried many things to boost gaming performance but it didn't work. Then after reset my pc on log in screen key board and mice didn't work i mean there's no problem in hardware side. Because keyboard working very well on bios settings Be careful I tried everything i could but hopefully i have one thing to try Download the latest version of windows 10 iso file and reinstall it. @@sureshsambana641 Sorry this is a late reply, but yes! If you do everything in this video the exact same way as he does, then it should save everything. All your basically doing is repairing any files that may be missing or corrupt, it shouldn’t delete any games or game data that you already have.

I promise you won't lose any apps/programs/data/settings (normally) I cannot comment on games as I am not a gamer - but everything else will be fine. I have done this for over 20 friends without a hassle (can't guarantee games though)

Wow how lucky I was to find this. I was unable to run windows 10 updates. Contain error 0x8007000d. Tried so many things to correct the problem, nothing worked. This is a blessing. I did not want to have to load up programs or re setup windows. It took one hour. And everything is working with updates and if I had not done this myself I would have no idea that windows was reinstated on my system. ALL is the same!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Although five years old and Britec09 has posted an alternative since, this tutorial is still very much valid.
My windows 10 installation was taking over two minutes to wake from sleep, it was driving me up the wall. I tried numerous 'How to speed up windows startup' guides, non of which worked. This does, but it takes a long time, at least a couple of hours in my case, but I am so pleased to find this and wouldn't hesitate to follow this again. Startup from sleep is now three seconds! My 2 year old Win 10 Asus laptop got whacked after an update. I tried sys restore, No GO! Tried Repair start up and advanced trouble shooting- (it told me my password was wrong) stopped me dead ! This method, my friend. seems to have worked like a charm. My data appears to be intacted !! thumbs up !!

Thank you , some of my drivers were corrupted and I thought the only way out was to reset pc option but I wasn't sure what I would loose pressing that button until I saw this video and I am glad that I found this video before doing anything stupid

same. i got a insiders update but then the update got over i was looking at my pc. start menu, search, settings, action center wasnt working and after few minutes the speakers are gone. until i found this video it saved me.
My laptop was taking half an hour too boot up and it was incredibly frustrating. I suspected it might have something to do with the windows. I followed this method and it worked!! used this method a couple of days ago (july 2021 so it still works great) on my desktop i built a few years ago. kept getting blue screens and not booting properly. thought i may need a new hard drive so i tried this as a last resort, worked perfectly. installed the latest win 10 version as well as all the updates, no more blue screens and windows boots great and a lot quicker as well. thanks britec you saved me the price of a new hdd.

You can use a CD or USB all you have to do is when it shows were to install Windows select the primary installation then select next then after it open windows.old then drag all the files you need out of the users folder

This is exactly what I needed but I cannot access the desktop and you are saying that this would only work if you have access to the GUI desktop. I have tried restore points, fix startup problems to no avail. Can you do what you are showing in the above video but at the prompt. I do have access to the prompt and I have a USB bootable with windows 10. The objective is to not lose the applications or the files. What Microsoft is proposing by keeping files but not the apps is a bit off the wall and unrealistic. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You really saved me man, My windows was infected with so many malwares and i don't have any personal files so i used to reset it but then a ransomware also came and controlled my PC and i couldn't reset it then because it controlled all my system files so the windows could not access the system image files.
