    This video is exactly what I needed to push me over the edge. I've just finalized my order for a pair of Falcon LS3/5A speakers; my first ever LS3/5A. It's great to learn about the heritage behind such a design and the following they've grown. Thanks for the awesome video!

    I stumbled across this video whilst trying to research Kef LS50s and whether to purchase them. What an enormous pleasure it was to watch this, despite its irrelevance to my search. Thanks for sharing

      +Lego6980 thanks, glad you liked the video, weird though as we have just sold and packaged up a pair of LS50 speakers today.

    I'm Asian and my old man owns 8 pairs of LS3/5as. I think the logic behind that is because we really like how they sound and hence modern speakers are unable to blow our minds. So we end up investing in more LS3/5as in order to find the best sounding pair.

    very interesting video. been using 15ohm rog ls3/5a for quite some time now and recently just acquired swisstone ab-1's. just heavenly. thank you for sharing this hifi hangar 😊🎶👍 thank you paul for the ls3/5a website. love it to bits. many thanks to andy as well for designing the extraordinary ab-1's. nice to mention Jo from KL as well, a true ls3/5a aficionado

    Thanks for a fantastic upload. I have listened to it repeatedly while working etc. I realise that TH-cam doesn't create an ideal listening environment, but it would be great if you'd upload at least some of the musical part of the evening if at all possible. Thanks again.

    A lovely bit of back history of an Iconic loudspeaker.
    It would be nice to know what happened to the original company, Rogers ? What happened to Jim Rogers who originally owned the company and how the development of the JR149 came about. ?

    I wonder what you think of sound of Falcon's new version of the ls3/5a. Some say its sounds more "Modern"?

  • @AndrewDCDrummond
    @AndrewDCDrummond 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Stirling V2 has a scanspeak bass driver, the Rogers 60th had the cheaper monacor drivers.

  • @AndrewDCDrummond
    @AndrewDCDrummond 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    And the Stirling AB-2 isn't the same as an AB-1, as someone mentioned. It has more extension and is a little taller. Falcon Acoustics do a version of the original AB-1.

    Contemplating switching my 1991 Rogers 15-Ohms single-wired pair for a recent Harbeth P3ESR-set. Am I mad? Worth it, in the least bit...?

    I just purchased Rogers studio 1 speakers. Is there any info on the history of that model. The pair I have only has the unbalanced connection , like the speakers you show in the video. Any info would be great.

    • @hifi_hangar

      The basic blueprint was from the original BBC studio monitor (LS3/9) which spawned also the Spendor BC1 and other similar monitors, such as the Rogers export monitor, the Studio One was basically a refined domestic version of the export monitor with much better finish and cosmetics, all the best Steve

    Update: On the subject of stands the iF Designs Tallis stands (prototypes are in video) were made by my good friend Roger Lokyer. He started by making a dedicated stand for the LS3/5a but did also make a limited number for other brands including the Von Schweikert VR-1. Great stands which today actually command more money than their original retail.

      +Craig Land That's not so true now - not sure many people know of them and there is not the mystique buzz around them like for chartwells or even the foundation stand. Didn't have a huge amount of interest in mine when I sold them.

      +Andrew Drummond I am a used dealer like HiFi Hanger and have a waiting list of worldwide customers for Roger's stands for the LS3/5A so if you are not getting good money for his stands you are doing something wrong lol

    • @AndrewDCDrummond
      @AndrewDCDrummond 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Craig Land went on ebay with worldwide visibility - got £430 so not a mad price. How much are you shifting them for? I have some slate audio stands which I prefer, plus the old partington dreadnought which at the time was as rated as the foundation, but not today for some reason. Got an iffy price for my E40a as well, then the buyer sold it for a grand more the next year, using my name as part of its provenance (!) - so maybe it is me - I am certainly not going to get into the business of buying and selling used hifi!

    I was actually enjoying this up to 23:40 when someone started to compare Kans. Just listen to them relishing in giggles. What a pity, funny to watch actually. It is because of snobby cliques like this that wrong stereotypes are unfortunately created and allowed to endure.

      @joebobshouse I've compared a pair of 15 ohm models to a pair of Proac Tablette 10. I expected it to be a close run thing but the Rogers were playing in a different ballpark. Easily worth it if you can find a pair of unmolested ones for about a grand.

    I am nor snob, but it is a shame that these guys could not speak more clearly and distinctly. Too much mumbling, dropping voices, inside yokes interrupting sentences, etc. The subject matter is fascinating. I owned a set of Rogers LS3/5a and later a set made by Spendor. Loved the speakers. Wanted to hear more about them.
