Well, I've been hinting that this would be a thing for months, and it's finally here! Ever since my video on Yes did so well 2 years ago, I decided to do another off-brand non-electronic worst to best ranking for an even more obvious band. It did take a long time to get motivated to go through with it (I wrote the first draft of the intro to this video like a year and a half ago) but I finally got all my various thoughts out on this legendary prog band that I really don't think people are going to need my help introducing them to, and I hope you enjoy. - เพลง

i know its his opinion but the wall should be in everyones top 3 lol
Thou art but a thymblebottom of the 4th quadrant of the setting sun of which breaks the 4th wall of beresha
@@dallinlaw1605 Certainly. Although there's a real chance some folks are so attached to their personal experiences, let's say with Dark Side, Meddle, Wish You Were Here and Animals, so I seen people no ranking The Wall (my favorite best by far) out of the top three. I learned how to be civilized about this, eventually. lol
There you go, fixed! Cheers bruh, that's just fair regardless our personal taste, c'mon. I share your top 5.
That works too. Nailed The Wall ranking, nothing less.
This is a BALLSY ranking! I disagree with much of it, but I respect that you kept true to your takes despite them being so against the grain!
Yeah definitely a unique one but tbf I can't say I disagree with a lot of his opinions or reasons
Finally someone who gets it! I can't think of anyone else willing to put The Division Bell over The Wall. Also, it's great to finally hear a review of The Endless River by someone who's into ambient electronic music. I still think it's masterful as an ambient album, but everyone judges it on its merits as a rock album. The Division Bell was already great as a final Pink Floyd album, so it's really cool to see them take it somewhere new while still calling back to the past. I especially love Surfacing on that album
My ranking:
15. AMLOR
14. Ummagumma
13.The Final Cut
12. Obscured By Clouds
11. More
10. The Endless River

4. DSOTM
3.The Wall
2. Wish You Were Here
1. Animals
TDSOTM not DSOTM
YES! I've already liked your videos, but you putting Atom Heart Mother in the top3 was the best thing I've seen this week. This is actually my favourite PF album and I was so happy to see you liking it too.
I've listened to Atom Heart Mother recently for the first time and I think it is a fantastic disc, largely underrated, perhaps because PF members hate it (with no reason I think) and never have played its songs in concerts (and the fact that it was the previous one before DSOTM, and was shadowed by it)
Yes!!! It’s Pink Floyd!!!
I’m very happy that you did a ranking on these guys. They are one of my absolute favorite rock bands ever, alongside Yes. The Dark Side of The Moon is easily my favorite album from them. I know that it is an obvious pick right there but I love that album so much because not only is it a very big standout in their catalog for me, but it also changed rock forever. Other albums from them that I think are worth people’s time include Wish You Were Here, Animals, Atom Heart Mother, The Wall, Ummagumma, and a few others.
Well done, you did a better criticism of the wall than he who shall not be named.
My favorites

While I don’t fully agree with you, I do respect your opinion because you’re not just bashing the albums, you actually go in depth of the reasons why do or don’t like that particular album.
Love the deep dives just subbed!
Oh my goodness I’m so happy this is a thing now! Love this band so so so so much, probably my favourite progressive rock band of all time! Wish You Were Here and Animals are easily my favourite from these guys, with AHM, DSotM, The Wall, Meddle and Ummagumma as runners up!

I’m sorry but animals is not #1 💀
Also fuck you for putting momentary lapse of reason over meddle
I think I remember you mentioning this idea for a video a loooooooong time ago. So glad you did it, was a great watch! I imagine you know I'm a big Pink Floyd fan.
I haven't listened to ALL the albums, been meaning too, but i've listened to a bunch, and this ranking is pretty solid. I especially laughed at The Final Cut being dead last. I took one listen to that album a few years ago and noped out. Couldn't even finish it. Also THANK YOU I feel almost the exact same way about The Wall. Honestly after reading on Wikipedia a lot of the background history of why Roger Waters felt the way he did back then and making it, it just kind of put a bitter taste in my mouth about the whole thing. Only difference I had in opinion was on Animals, as it's my second favorite, right up there above DSOTM, but behind WYWH. Animals imho is still the greatest societal commentary ever put on vinyl. Very very relevant. Whenever I think of the Capitol Riot this year, I always think of one of my favorite lyric's from Sheep: "Wave upon wave of demented avengers
March cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream". Animals is just damn good. Dogs in particular. As for your thoughts on DSOTM and WYWH, I agree 100%. DSOTM is a masterpiece in album crafting, and WYWH is just chefs kiss perfection. Those 3 albums have a permanent place in the CD changer of my car lol. Also liked the love Meddle got. Love that album, and Echoes is such a cool song. I really am interested in hearing Atom Heart Mother since you ranked it so high. Honestly one of their albums I have not heard yet. Overall great video fam, and it's great to see how confident you are in your presentation. You rock dude!
this is the stuff i've been waiting for
putting Obscured by clouds at 14 offends me :P I love this album.
Great video! I enjoy your takes on the albums. I ranked them about four years ago, so you have inspired me to maybe revisit and re-rank them as some of my views have changed. Subscribed!
I was so happy to hear you talk about #3-5-all fantastic records and definitely closest to my own aesthetic when it comes to Floyd, even if hearing #2 on vinyl was a really cool experience-but hearing you talk about "Bike" was in particular a *YES, YES EXACTLY* moment. That song has the weirdest power to it, and such power. (That said, while I love the Barrett era, I think their scene pals' Soft Machine were a lot more consistent at doing largely the same thing across their first two records, although they got way jazzier and more abstract way faster. Check 'em out if you haven't! :3)
My Top 5 would be..
1. Wish You Were Here
2. Animals
3. Dark Side Of The Moon
4. The Wall
5. Meddle
Yes dude! Like 90% of Floyd fans, these are the top 5 in whatever order. I really don't see not even from a technical point of view (nor even writing-wise), how could any of their other albums (as brilliant as some of them are) outrank ANY of these five gems from a realistic top-five; all matters considered. However, I understand the frenzy on Obscured by Clouds, Atom Heart Mother, The Piper of the Gates at Dawn and A Saucerful of Secrets, obviously. I am still learning to grasp the buzz about The Division Bell, The Endless River and More, though. Ummagumma is... well, it has its importance but just listen to it if you dare. And The Final Cut, wow... I am a The Wall fan so it resembles it a lot as most can see and it has brilliant pieces - I can't get enough of "Not Now, John", but again... is it really a Floyd album? (Animals kinda suffered from this syndrome as well, but it was better kneaded and has a solid fan base; now, all the Gilmour phase albums will inevitably fall into that category, as good as they might be). That about covers it, oh boy.
15. A Momentary Lapse of Reason
14. The Endless River
13. Obscured by Clouds
12. The Final Cut
11. Ummagumma
10. The Division Bell
9. More
8. PATGOD
7. TDSOTM
6. A Saucerful of Secrets
5. The Wall
4. Atom Heart Mother
3. Animals
2. Meddle
1. Wish You Were Here
Nice! Don’t really know why, but getting into this video, I was very confident that your take would be pretty close (if not exactly of course) to mine, notably with atom heart mother that high, the wall that “low”, etc And wish you were here is just a must from my childhood, so I would accepted something else than no1 from someone else, but here we go! 😀
Nice review. I've been going through the albums recently, some great stuff I hadn't heard before but there is still a lot that is a tough listen in the early days.
Top marks for being one of the few Americans I've watched who pronounced St Tropez correctly too 🤣👏
interesting that other floyd fans mispronounce St Tropez when they literally say the title right there in the song lol
Awesome video, I love this band - much like you I don't listen to them often at all but they mean a lot to me as they were likely my grandads favourite band and he passed away last year from Covid 19 and he was my closest family member in terms of spending time with me and helping me out with anything, few months later in college we had to do a Pink Floyd Tribute Gig as an assignment and yeah though Dark Side is overplayed, hearing Time and Money and Breathe like (amongst loads of other Floyd songs from their other albums) just hit home with me since I hadn't listened to them since he died
Nowadays I slightly prefer Yes, I like their 70s set of work so very much, but Pink Floyd always has a special place in my heart and I enjoy most of their catalogue (I've not heard the final cut or the wall yet though)
For me, Obscured by Clouds immediately is ranked higher than 14 because of Burning Bridges and Mudmen. Those are two of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard.
Your take from 6.55 is probably the funniest thing I've seen on this channel, and I've spent hours and hours on it now.
A couple of strong recommendations while I'm here:
Slow Bongo Floyd - Brenda Salmonds
And
Fun-Da-Mental - Seize The Time
I feel you'd get a lot out of those records.
Keep on brother
Great guide and although I'd have a different ordering, which I'd be surprised if two people familiar with the catalogue would ever agree on anyway, in broad terms it's pretty spot on. My personal favourite is Ricochet but it's also the first I experienced, so all others are benchmarked to it.
I'd love to see a Moody Blues one! Been meaning to get into their stuff for a while
My Top 10 Floyd albums:
1: Dark Side Of The Moon
2: WIsh You Were Here
3: Animals
4: The Wall
5: Atom Heart Mother
6: Division Bell
7: Meddle
8. Obscured By Clouds
9. Piper At The Gates of Dawn
10: The Endless River
To be honest, The Wall has always been a tricky one for me, as in tricky to place it in a ranking list. And the reason I say this is because, while there are some super great songs on the album, such as Happiest Days Of Our Lives, which, let's just be honest, really only works if coupled with Part 2 of Another Brick in the Wall, and Comfortably Numb, Young Lust and The Trial, the rest of the album is less concentrated and WATERED DOWN (you see what I did there? watered down? HA-HA! That's the only Pink Floyd joke i'll ever make). The Wall looks like a beast of an album but you can actually slice the tracklisting in half, condense it in other words and it would have made for a more juicier/more concenrated album in my opinion. I placed The Wall at Number 4 in my ranking list but seriously, I almost put Atom Heart Mother above The Wall. I could have gone either way with that really. There is only one song which I HATE on Atom Heart Mother, and tha is Alan's Breakfast, it is the most pointless waste of air-time ever recorded in a studio in my opinion, I already can't stand when people eat too loudly as it is, let alone a 13 minutes of eating noises and dishes being clinked, absolute garbage!!!! But the rest of the album is AMAZING!
My ranking

Love the list. Could you ever do Bowie? I know these projects take a lot of time and thought.
I'm gonna be brutally honest and say I don't have enough of a personal connection to Bowie's music where I'd feel right going off-format like this
Based Endless River placement, incredibly underrated
Dude, going through a Pink Floyd stage at the moment so this was a pleasant surprise. Edit: Have you listened to the Dark Side of the Moog series by Namlook and Schultz?
yeah, I think I sat through a decent chunk of that series before I even got into the real Floyd. I remember really liking what I heard tho it's obviously been years
@@TheWonkyAngle ~ nice one fella, it's a series I am assuming is based on pink floyd, good you've heard it. Also, check out Easy Stars All Stars Dub Side of the Moon. It's a reggae version of Dark Side. It's quite good. Take it easy.
Personally…
1. Animals
2. Wish You Were Here
3. The Dark Side of the Moon
4. Atom Heart Mother
5. Meddle
6. The Division Bell
7. A Saucerful of Secrets

10. The Final Cut
11. The Wall

14. The Endless River

I wanted to wait till the end of the video to give my thoughts, and here they are:
First, I must congratulate you on the correct choice of number 1. Wish You Were Here is indeed the right choice there. :)
Second: given that you put The Final Cut dead last, it makes me think you would hate Roger Waters' solo discography too. Or at least some of it.
Another band that might be right up your alley to do one of these, eventually, is ELO. I don't know how familiar you are with them, but they seem to be, what with their use of electronics, especially on their mid-period. But then Jeff went back to a more radio rock inspired sound, so...
Also, I can't help but wonder about your top 10 Pink Floyd songs. Especially since those would have to also be drawn from their non-album material, which wasn't included in this video.
honestly don't have a lot of big favorites among their non-album material, I like Careful With That Axe Eugene and Point Me At The Sky but there's loads of actual album tracks I'd still rank higher than those.
if I had to do a top 10 favorite tracks of theirs I think it'd go roughly something like this (some of these could switch around depending on my mood):
10. Welcome To The Machine
9. Summer '68
8. High Hopes
7. Echoes
6. Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast
5. Money
4. One Of These Days
3. The Great Gig In The Sky
2. Shine On You Crazy Diamond
1. Us and Them
I like to think about how ambient house music by The Orb and The KLF takes a lot of influence from Pink Floyd (along with Brian Eno and Tangerine Dream).
(looks over at Metallic Spheres)
always heard all the comparisons you're drawing here. A Saucerful of Secrets is 1000% proto-Tangerine-Dream and all the psychedelic wails pop up on Chill Out a lot

I think Edgar Froese once said that Tangerine Dream during their first four albums wanted to do what Floyd did on Saucerful of Secrets --> space rock (without the rock though )
This will b good
Funny, I never really heard Pink Floyd on the rock radio stations here in DC. I guess DC101 just has bad taste in rock? Anyways, Pink Floyd is easily my favorite band of all time, and they have so much nostalgic value since I discovered them in High School. Listening to Dark Side as a wee 15 year old kid blew my mind, and The Wall blew my mind even more! I put on Pink Floyd on long trips, or working on long projects and I am set for said trip or long project.
I guess my top 5 ranking as of 2021 would be
1. The Wall
2. Wish You Were Here

Also i love how much you like A Saurceful Of Secrets and The Division Bell, two very underrated pink floyd albums, in my opinion, take care mate :)
Ok, but The Wall not making the top 5 is weird. I feel like I should listen to The Division Bell really over and over until I get what is it you guys like so much about it, srsly... Blow up your sales with a Saturday morning as Friday night
I totally respect placing Atom Heart Mother this high. It's probably their most underrated album?
It sounds imperfect and that's part of the charm. The title track is really good, then you have 3 more personnal songs composed and sung by 3 different people (note that Waters says "if i was a good man" in it... man, this guy.) and then Alan's breakfast adventures, which may sound at first as experimental but is in fact a 3 part songs linked with sounds.
I'm impressed that nobody knows about Summer 68. What a track!
Overall, a great listen.
As for the Wall, I think it's overrated as F. That's the typical "i say this album is the best despite having never listened to it but i say it because of the public image it got" kind of album. Kinda like There Is Nothing Left To Lose of the Foo Fighters, which is very boring but hey it got two singles that made the band famous!
Well The Wall is the same, except that it's not that the album is boring, it's really hard to listen to. It's not pleasant at all. Roger was having some kind of mental breakdown and made everyone suffer because of it, including the listener.
Like Gilmour says, Roger came with an un-listenable 3h demo and the band worked hard to make it sound good as they found the concept interesting, and Roger forced his way and took all credits for it.
What is funny is when Pink is described as some kind of dictator for no reason except a self insert of Roger, recognizing that he became a douchebag for the band but still embraces it. This album sounds too personnal for reasons like this. Why would Pink say this, or think about this memory, etc, all can be summed up as "it's Roger".
Sounds like a huge caprice, "let me talk about all the tiny, least relevant things that come up into my mind, because i'm highly emotional that i scream like a bird on stage, because idk, i have issues." Or something.
So yeah, The Wall is overrated. It is good because it has great tracks and it is its own unique thing. But don't expect people to actually listen to it, all. Plus as soon as you listen to an album like Amused To Death, trust me, you don't want to listen to Roger Waters whining and virtue signaling for 10 years afterwards, even if The Floyd is here to elevate the listening level.
my thoughts exactly, since I also find Atom Heart Mother to be their most overlooked album. it is also interesting how band members shitting on it makes it even more of a standout, like you know, it´s one of situations when creator cannot comprehend it´s own creation. everything above goes mostly for the title suit and the closer, though, but i enjoy the rest of the tracklist as well! those other songs just dont seem that enigmatic to me as these two.
also agree on The Wall - its quite good, but if we are talking about moody conceptual PF albums I would choose The Dark Side of the Moon over it every time.
@@Nikos4415 Same for Dark Side, it's so much enjoyable in every way, even with the theme.
30:45 r u OK with me or others being able 2 listen 2 it regularly?
I mean, yeah, of course, music is subjective and everyone's reactions to it are going to be different
@@TheWonkyAngle thanx
33:40 yea I think it's a 10/10
11:28 why did he wanna sue them??
30:30 why did they give u nightmares?

how bloody dare you.
@@xsm5525 I still like that album, also my ranking changes all the time tbh
@@xsm5525 LOL
I am outraged by your Obscured by the Clouds ranking just so you know. Other than that I totally agree; good job!!! LOL. Fans will be fans... (this is actually a very civilized convo, you guys should see what we do at the Beatlemaniacs club). Cheers !!!

Satanic ducks
More has some bangers on there imo
Piper is still my favorite
It’s good that music is subjective, but putting the wall at 8, and behind division bell is a bit concerning
I enjoy your insights especially the TD album rating vid but dang kiddo you’ve missed sum of the Ummagumma marks partially because you are not emotionally attached to it and partially thru lack of research
Thas ok tho carry on great job
wait, what about the Ummagumma segment was poorly researched? did I get something factually wrong there?
45:15 u should check out devil doll

I'm shocked that you still like "Money" after soooo much overplay of that song.
Hey Pi was that Sheep 🐑 playing at 4:42
yep
@@TheWonkyAngle i know that song.
The Final Cut is great, The Wall sound is so insanely overproduced it gets so boring compared to live versions; especially since it excludes "what shall we do now"
Really interesting rankings! Appreciate how you explain why you rank them as you do. For anyone interested in another view: th-cam.com/video/kCo-tnXXlBk/w-d-xo.html
wonky slush
You're just a brick in the wall.
that thang bleeding p
wocky angle
Atom Heart Mother just isn’t that good imo. Song writing pales in comparison to other Floyd works of the time, the suite is good but is absolutely bloated and lacking in enough ideas to fill its 20 plus minutes and come on, Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast? I get that it’s a nice acoustic instrumental but the breakfast sound effects and sound bites just make it sound really stupid. The horns throughout the album sound really cheap as well. Okay album but not great imo. Great video tho!
wow, super weird list lol
As soon as you put The Division Bell above The Wall, I lost interest 🤦♂️
