Another well produced and informative video. Thank you. Three years on and much has changed and now the app seems really nice. It's a bit more expensive but I've just downloaded it and am looking forward to trying it out.
G’day David. Thank you for that informative review - really appreciate it. A few years ago I was skeptical of all camera apps and phone cameras until I found myself using them for all sorts of convenient reasons. Now I’m amazed by how good camera phones & apps are. On the strength of your review I’d like to try out Camera M on my iPhone 11 Pro Max. You’ve well highlighted the pro’s and cons of the app so there won’t be any surprises and if something does go pear shape I should now have an idea what to do. Currently switching between Halide & Moment. Cheers!
I have used both Moment & Halide but now I’m only using Halide & editing in Darkroom / Lightroom :) I’m a little curious about Camera+ 2 tho, I’m only using my iPhone 11 Pro to shoot
Great review mate, I find the app pretty good as well, and the only issue I have on my iPhone 11 with it is that when I take a photo, the app freezes momentarily and then allows me to view it in the viewer area. At first the photo is blurry for about 5 seconds while it renders then displays normally, slows the whole photo taking process down, hence why I don’t use it that often. Have you seen the app ‘DSLR Camera”, very different to any other camera app that you’ve seen, with many features such as AR Portrait assistance, filters, jump shot mode etc. not seen in other apps and all for a great low price? So you’ve reviewed a number of camera apps now all offering similar features of portrait, manual control and so on, ranging from AU$2.99 to AU$56. I have done some pixel peeping with the test shots from the various apps in this range and to my eyes they look the same or with negligible differences at the end of the day of the final image, and when you think that they are all using the same API’s, lenses and sensors that Apple provide per iPhone, they probably should be. The only differences I guess would be how they render the final image at a software level and ease of use. So, are the huge variations in price between the apps justified? I personally, don’t think so but that’s all subjective. How about a video on your thoughts? Something to think about..Cheers
Hi Denis, thanks for watching! Yes, I get a lot of questions about which app will produce the best 'quality' and you're exactly right, they all use the same hardware, have access to the same APIs etc... so they're all virtually the same. The key differences between camera apps are how you get to the final result and the quality of the tools available to help you (user interface and user experience). That's why I tend to focus more on that than the images themselves. I've played around with DSLR Camera a little and will probably review it early next year!
Thanks for this review. You developed your own review style. After testing different photo apps, I'm using Camera+ 2, it fits to my needs. Can you change in Camera M the proportions? The standard is 4:3, I often prefer 1:1 or also 16:9. It's cool to have these options in the app, cause as a landscape painter, I like square formats.
When having the ISO on the lowest possible (as you keep recommending), is it normal for the app to lag? I’m using iPhone 11 Pro Max and thanks once again!
Still searching for the "right" set up for me. I have been trying Halide, but couldn't work out why it didn't click. Having seen your video, I wasted no time in spending my pocket money this week on Camera M - it's just as obvious and intuitive as you suggest - more importantly it seems to work how my brain wants to work - sure, it's not necessarily for the fastest shooting, but when you do want to take control it seems to me to make a lot of sense. The thing is I have always had a shooting style (in SLR and dSLR) which tended to want to set somethings manually (like WB) let somethings look after themselves or just control, say aperture, so the "modular" approach appeals - a lot! I think Ansel Adams might approve! Now, the "proof in the pudding" etc.... well we'll see when I have an actual pudding to photograph... but I am looking forward to giving this a test now.I recognise every app is some sort of compromise. Thanks for your informative take, as ever!
is this the only one where I can adjust tint as well? My new 12 pro is a bit of and greenish tint to it and every picture I take always needs to be adjusted between +10-25 in LR, so it would be nice with some options for this oris this Camera M the only one? (best one for this) I have moment and Halide m2 ATM... thanks for a good vid! cheers from Denmark
@@David_Addison thanks for answering me. Have you found anything on the tint issue? Some reports have been made but not a clear solution to it. When I adjust in LR I per definition set it between +10-20 tint and it's fine, but does that adjustment hurts the quality of my picture? No lie, I had the iPhone 11 and it did the same, returned it, got the 12 pro, same thing happened. I've compared vs other iphone and most of them are okay. Only wanted iphone for the photos sake, never had iphone before. Considering changing so Samsung but now with this tint adjust I'm not so sure anymore, maybe this app somehow compensate for the tint post editing and overall quality post editing... Not sure. so unlucky. Thanks for great content, subbed 👍❤️

Do you like this modular approach or do you prefer to see all of the controls on screen at once?
Modular is better. I’m a minimalist so the less clutter, the better.
The modular approach is fine...for myself it’s a matter of being familiar with its functionality so I can ‘automatically’ work with it👍😜
As a programmer I respect modularity :)
Makes things more digestible
It looks good, but I think the camera interface from Sony MK2 is really easy to handle but this one a really like how you have many controls
