I was going to buy a new 18 foot pontoon boat back in 1997. But with everything that I wanted, it was going to cost around 15K. The dealer showed me a new 1997 Maxum 1700SR 3.0LX inboard/outboard loaded for 10K. I bought the Maxum and still have it today. Everything looks and runs good. Never had any issues with it. @Christopher what were the requirements when you got approved? How was your credit? Any down payment? How long did they tell you before you will have your boat?
As a new Lake Resident ... I have been searching the new and USED Pontoon boat markets vigilantly - this TINY CRAFT is priced attractively ..... but, perhaps simply too small to be a Value in the Family / Friends boating most often the case in lake pleasure boating. A third Toon (TUBE) option would be helpful and add two or three more passenger buoyancy - also a 90 H.P. is needed for Raft pulling and getting around under load with expediency. Very nice option as a new purchase for the fewer customer market demographic for the limitations shown.
Like everything, prices go up. Now you get a 16’ boat for nearly the same price. Same goes for buying a home, car, food groceries. Thanks for the comparison. Thanks for watching
Thanks for the question. The wood underneath is pressure treated and does very well in fresh water. This boat is selling in an area that does not have salt water. Pressure treated lumber can be used in salt water but has a different lbs. of chemical treatment per cubic ft. than wood used in fresh water. So would be best to verify the specific treatment of the wood with the dealership prior to using in salt water. In fresh water states, wood decking is very common. I have wood decking (pressure treated) on my pontoon which I use in fresh water. The deck is now 33 years old and looks as good as new. Thanks for watching!
Is the plywood on the bottom of the deck coated in anything? If not, that is bare wood getting wet and possibly rotting away. Or is rot covered in the warranty?
Thanks for the question. All the plywood decking is marine grade plywood meaning it has been treated and the warranty does cover the plywood flooring. Thanks for watching!
Same here. I have a 2016 and wish I had the transom platform and ladder however the couch must have been shortened front to back to make room for it. The under deck side ladder on mine is useless because it's too short. I was on one at a local dealer and the fishing seat dont get in the way of opening the side door like mine.
@@pauls7751 They've really improved them. So much so that the wait time for getting one is a few months. Its a great boat and a very good value. Thanks for watching!
We have been looking for a pontoon boat for weeks and decided to go with a brand new one. I literally just ordered this exact pontoon with a few options today based off this review! I went back to watch this review again because I am so excited about it but one thing that is concerning me is when you showed the bottom part of the boat and how it is welded.. All I see is the plywood bottom. Is that going to be a problem down the road? I am now afraid the wood will rot out. Please let me know. Maybe this one wasn't exactly finished yet. Editing this question/comment to add... I just remembered there is a lifetime warranty so maybe it will be fine.
It’s Marine Grade Plywood and the warranty information listed at SunTrackerBoats.com list their warranty as: “10+LIFE™ Limited Lifetime Warranty”. I’d verify the exact coverage with your dealer directly so you can have better peace of mind. As for the review, thank you so much! This is a great boat at a very good value and Matt did a great job listing all the great features. We’re always excited to hear how one of our reviews helped. Thanks for watching
An added side note from Nate . I have a pontoon that has a marine grade plywood floor. It has an welded aluminum frame much like the one your looking at. It’s 36 years old and the floor has never been replaced and other than some color fading in the carpet the floor is solid. I do keep my pontoon covered when I’m not using it. Hope that helps to reassure you with your purchase. It’s a great boat.! Happy boating and we’re thrilled that our video helped you with your decision!
@@TwoGuysandaRide I don't think the bass buggy has had a floor storage in them. Maybe older ones did. No big deal just curious. Thanks for your reply and videos.
They don't. It's built to meet a very good entry level price point so the only power available is either the 20 or 50 HP Mercury gas outboards. Thanks for watching

Thanks for the question. To be honest I would recommend asking the dealer where you purchased the boat. But basically, Mercury rates the gas usage of the 50hp mercury outboard at 4.65 gallons per hour at wide open throttle. Since you won’t be at wide open throttle all the time, your gallons per hour should be better than that. Hope that helps, thanks for watching and don’t forget to hit that subscribe button!
Looks great the problems I do see are the livewell is way to small and I dont really see a place to insert a bigger one. Also no trolling motor. I wish you would have explained how one could easily be mounted. The seating looks really comfortable and the price is great
Understood. Please understand we wanted to show the base model and the value it offers. Of course Tracker offers larger boats but this is a great entry level rig. Thanks for watching
Looks like a great boat for the price. But I do see the expose plywood on the under belly. Is any type of water proof under coating for that? Other than that it looks great!
I am very seriously considering purchasing a used 2017 Bass Buggy 18 DLX from a private seller. How concerned should I be about the exposed marine-grade plywood underbelly since pontoon is already 5 years old? Is the Sun Tracker 10-year warranty on the marine-grade plywood only transferable when the pontoon is purchased from dealer? What would it cost to replace the plywood once it ultimately degraded? Finally, how long does it normally take to degrade in terms of hours or years. The motor on the used pontoon that I may purchase only has 160 hours on it. Thanks!!
the 25 HP is the base engine and will allow you to troll along nicely. If you are interested in pulling someone on a tube then I'd suggest you go for the 50 HP. Neither motor will fling this pontoon across the water, but for just a bit more, you can choose more power from the start? Thanks for watching
Thanks for the question. I'm assuming you purchased the cover from Tracker, if not this first answer may not apply. The cover that comes from tracker should have an elastic band that you stretch over the walls and under the perimeter of the boat floor. There may be some ratchet type ropes included, and I believe those would go underneath the tarp first for support. If the ratchet type ropes were not included you may have got some aluminium poles that adjust in length-and your tarp would have three holes in it, that the tip of the poles go into (tallest pole goes in the middle- the other poles should be shorter than middle pole). These give your tarp a Tent like structure and allows water (hopefully) to flow right off the tarp back into the water (they are a pain if they fill with water). I also could not find any information online on it, so called a dealer and this is what they said. Now, in case yours is not from tracker, then typically they either work the same way, or some install snaps on the outside and use the same aluminium poles I described earlier. Just FYI, on my pontoon, I had snaps installed and a custom cover made which fits the boat perfectly and keeps all the water out, in case your cover does not work well keeping water out. Hope this helps and gives you a few extra ideas, thanks for watching!
@@TwoGuysandaRide I already did and no luck. In fact there isn't many factory parts available. I really need new bimini top replacement canvas for my 2016 bass buggy but no one makes it
im looking to buy one here in the next week or so. with that being said, i noticed that there is exposed plywood underneath...any way to waterproof that? seems like a big deal because the only way to replace that, would be to rip up the floor.. any ideas?
I’d imagine that adding lights for night fishing wouldn’t void the boat’s warranty. Best to check with your local SunTracker dealer to be sure. Thanks for watching
So what would the cost be to upgrade a 2017 model with a rear boarding ladder and captains chair, I would think a lot less than trading in for a new one
Boat dry weight is 1310#. The trailer is sold separately so it’s weight depends on the trailer you pick. More specs are listed in the description below the video. Thanks for watching
Yes it is. It is treated marine grade plywood and it has a lifetime warranty . I have exposed treated plywood on my pontoon, it’s all original from date of manufacturing and it’s as solid today as it was 31 years ago, no rot, no soft spots or mold. I do keep my pontoon covered when I’m not at my cabin so I’m sure that helps. Thanks for watching!
The floor storage door at 2.29 minutes is false. I have this model and it does not have this storage. Also the front of the trailer bar by the steps that touches the boat frame gets crooked to the left over time and not even.
Thanks for the question. We are not a dealer, we just film at the dealerships, but you can contact them directly, using the contact info in the description below the video. Thanks for watching!
We paid a total of $20,637.22 that was for every upgrade available, the select package, 50hp motor and fishing package and of course the trailer, taxes and delivery fees.
On the Suntracker Trailstar trailer (as shown) the boat is 8’8” tall, 8’3” wide and 24’10” long. You could purchase a scissor style trailer which allows you to crank it down to the floor of the garage.
Correction: The upgrade from a 20 horsepower to a 50 horsepower is $1,600. The trailer is optional, as is the Select Package which includes the Bimini top, stereo with speakers and windshield.
No the trailer is not included with the price of $10,995. SunTracker Boats will sell you one for $2500 or so. They expect many buyers will be upgrading to this boat and they’ll already own a trailer. Thanks for watching

Any idea what the timeline is from ordering to getting a boat since none are in stock?
Depending on where you live as I understand it it could be 3 to 4 months
Great Presentation, I fish on a restricted lake (9.9 hp). Does this BB 16 offer that size motor?
It doesn’t but you could certainly use that one instead. Thanks for watching
@@TwoGuysandaRide understood and dont get me wrong, I'd love to own one
You can add a foot controlled trolling motor and color fish finder for 1510.00. 995.00 for the package and 520.00 for install fee.
Do they make this 16 foot boat in a party barge instead of the bass buggy
Not in the 16’ model. They do make larger pontoon boats. Check em out. Thanks for watching
At 228 it shows a trap door in floor what is that for just curious as I have ordered a 2021 XL select and can't wait for spring
That's a small underfloor storage area. Congratulations on your new Boat. Thanks for watching!
Can I put a Merc 450R on the back??? (Kidding) What is the max motor size the frame is rated for???
Frankly I think a 7.4 liter Power stroke Diesel would be fun, but SunTracker recommends only up to 50hp. Thanks for watching
I'm looking myself to get one that size for fishing and cruising myself.
You should definitely check out Suntrackerboats.com or visit your local Tracker Boat Dealer. It’s a great entry-level pontoon. Thanks for watching
Looks like a great boat for the price. But I do see the expose plywood on the under belly. Is any type of water proof under coating for that? Other than that it looks great!
It’s Marine Grade plywood and guaranteed for 10 years. Thanks for watching
All of them are like this
I am very seriously considering purchasing a used 2017 Bass Buggy 18 DLX from a private seller. Thanks!!
what kind of speeds are we looking at with the 25 and the 50? is it even worth it to take the base 25? just asking due to lack of experience
the 25 HP is the base engine and will allow you to troll along nicely. If you are interested in pulling someone on a tube then I'd suggest you go for the 50 HP. Neither motor will fling this pontoon across the water, but for just a bit more, you can choose more power from the start? Thanks for watching
Mine tops out at 23 mph with 2 adults and full fuel. It will do about 17 or 18 with 4 adults and 3 children.
Mine run around 22mph with 50 go. Two adults one child.
Is this boat salt & freshwater?
Fresh water only. Thanks for watching
can i get this in a non fishing model. ... meaning bench seats in front
Not this pontoon. They do sell other non fishing pontoons. Thanks for watching
How do I put on the cover? I can't find any help for this anywhere.
@@TwoGuysandaRide thank you so much!
Your very welcome!
I would like to see more on the bass buggy 16 with the 20 hp engine for most my lakes Re restricted to 20 hp
It’s the same boat with the same features and amenities minus the 50hp motor. Thanks for watching
Where can I get those rod holder cup holder accessories
Check suntrackerboats.com or Cabelas or Bass Pro Shoos. Thanks for watching
@@TwoGuysandaRide I already did and no luck. In fact there isn't many factory parts available. I really need new bimini top replacement canvas for my 2016 bass buggy but no one makes it
im looking to buy one here in the next week or so. with that being said, i noticed that there is exposed plywood underneath...any way to waterproof that? seems like a big deal because the only way to replace that, would be to rip up the floor.. any ideas?
If it isn’t already Marine grade plywood I’d imagine that you could spray it with waterproof sealant. Thanks for watching
If sealed on top dont seal the bottom
Do this boat sea worthy , or only lakes ?
This boat is made for freshwater only. Thanks for watching
Amazing spokesman! Would lights underneath the boat be an option under warranty as i do alot of night fishing?
I’d imagine that adding lights for night fishing wouldn’t void the boat’s warranty. Best to check with your local SunTracker dealer to be sure. Thanks for watching
So what would the cost be to upgrade a 2017 model with a rear boarding ladder and captains chair, I would think a lot less than trading in for a new one
Not sure if you can do that. Best would be to contact your local Tracker Boat dealer. Thanks for watching
the sport steering wheel looks so awesome!
All its missing are the Paddle Shifters :) Thanks for watching!
That exposed wood underneath isnt an issue?
No It’s marine grade plywood and it has a guarantee
Can you tell me the weight for boat an trailer?
Boat dry weight is 1310#. The trailer is sold separately so it’s weight depends on the trailer you pick. More specs are listed in the description below the video. Thanks for watching
I live in East Tennessee, do y'all deliver?
Check TrackerBoats website for that information. Thanks for watching
Does it come with the trailer ?
No
Was that plywood exposed to water under the deck?
@@TwoGuysandaRide
Thought the plywood had a 10 year warranty.
Not lifetime.
Plywood is lifetime not 10 year. I just bought one.
What was this boat priced at with the upgrades shown ?
I think you're looking at about $15k as you see it. You can go to TrackerBoats.com and build one. Thanks for watching
Ty
The floor storage door at 2.29 minutes is false. I have this model and it does not have this storage. Also the front of the trailer bar by the steps that touches the boat frame gets crooked to the left over time and not even.
Thanks for watching
Does SunTracker have a saltwater prep option for these boats?
According to their website these are freshwater boats only. Thanks for watching
Wow..if only it was that price now...
Yeah, that be nice! Still an inexpensive pontoon though compared to other pontoons. Thanks for watching!
Yup....doubled in price....shame
@@garysansone2785all boats have doubled in price. Still one of the lowest priced pontoons on the market. Thanks for watching
Can you ship to Cleveland, Ohio?
Thanks for the question. We are not a dealer, we just film at the dealerships, but you can contact them directly, using the contact info in the description below the video. Thanks for watching!
What's the price of the trailer ??
Around $2500. Thanks for watching
How much extra is the trailer
I’m guessing $2500 or so. Check with your local SunTracker dealer for exact pricing. Thanks for watching
Can.a Foot control trolling motor be in installed in front and a depth finder on the console
Yes that is available as an optional package. Thanks for watching!
$995.
What's the price with the trailer and the upgrades on this boat out the door?
A bit over $16k. Thanks for watching
Thanks for the information
We paid a total of $20,637.22 that was for every upgrade available, the select package, 50hp motor and fishing package and of course the trailer, taxes and delivery fees.
Fully decked OTD here same price $20,600. However, I did the 50hp, trailer, select package, $17,300+ttl and fees $18743 OTD in Texas today.
It should come with a trolling motor if it’s the fishing model
It's built to a price point. You can certainly add on any accessories that you need. Thanks for watching
Two Guys and a Ride will a 25hp push it ok?
Two Guys and a Ride I don’t know one of the reasons I love bass tracker/tracker is because they sell a ready to fish product with a Minnkota
Yes
The "fishing package" is an option package with a trolling motor and fish finder. I learned about it when I was talking to a salesman the other day.
What clearance does it need to fit into garage door? Does the canopy lay down flat?
Yes the top does lay flat. I’ll check on the clearance need and get back to you
On the Suntracker Trailstar trailer (as shown) the boat is 8’8” tall, 8’3” wide and 24’10” long. You could purchase a scissor style trailer which allows you to crank it down to the floor of the garage.
Can it pull a tube and rider?
With the 50hp it can gently pull a tube
Im looking for a 16 bass buggy with a

How much would the boat slip cost monthly?
No idea about boat slip. Check your dealer and marina. Thanks for watching
Are these still available for that price now? I will buy one right now if one is available around North Carolina..
I’m sure you understand that nothing is available at the same price it was 2 years ago. Thanks for watching

How fast with the 50hp?
I think that was another viewers question in a previous comment. I’ll check and let you know. Thanks for watching
Ours tops out at 23 mph with two adults and full fuel.
Correction: The upgrade from a 20 horsepower to a 50 horsepower is $1,600. The trailer is optional, as is the Select Package which includes the Bimini top, stereo with speakers and windshield.
Correct
Can this pontoon be used in salt water?
Freshwater only
Wooden floor, how is that good?
I’d expect that it’s Marine Grade plywood. Not sure. Thanks for watching
I have a 1996 Madsen with the original marine grade plywood floor. Still in really good shape.
Does Trailer come with it?
No the trailer is not included with the price of $10,995. SunTracker Boats will sell you one for $2500 or so. They expect many buyers will be upgrading to this boat and they’ll already own a trailer. Thanks for watching
Can it be taken to salt water?
No this boat is not built for saltwater. Thanks for watching
What is the weight for towing?
Average package weight: 2426 lbs. Thanks for watching
