A 7.5 foot instrument that has the tone, power and dynamic range of a full concert grand. SK is building world-class pianos.

The clarity of Shigeru Kawai pianos is unreal.

Hi Andres, we use the zoom H6 for close to the grand piano and two room microphones for above the piano. The brand for those two microphones I have to look up. So next time we will be recording, I'll try to find their name!

@@EmilevanLeenen Zoom H6 + some room mics produced that? Are you sure? Sounds like it was recorded in a studio on (very expensive) ribbon mics

    Fantastic piano and pianist!!! Bravo!
Is the SK7 too big for a living room that’s, say, 13x17 feet with 9 foot ceiling? I’ve read 15x20 is recommended for a 7 footer so a bit worried it would be “too much piano” for the space.

Hi Raj D, The sound of a SK7 is mild en rich. You can easily play very soft on it, that is because of the long keys, a very good soundboard and a lot of other mechanical details. (You can read them fully here if you use dutch to english translation emilevanleenenpianos.nl/products/694_shigeru-kawai-sk7) So i don't think it will be to loud for a 13x17 feet room with a 9 foot ceiling, but the floor is also important (stone is louder) and the walls, so it is a bit difficult to say. The SK3 or 5 might be a better option

@@EmilevanLeenen Thank you so much for your reply, I really appreciate it! That's good to know, yeah hopefully with the ability to play softly on it, that would help it to work better in a smaller room.

I have an SK-5 in our small living room plentybofnpiwer without being overwhelming. Could have gone smaller and still gotten a great piano but wanted the SK-5. It is incredible.

NORMALLY, I can't stand the sound of a Kawai piano.. but this one has a marvelous tone in each register of the keyboard!

Shigeru Kawai is very different from Kawai! Although it is built by them. Shigeru Kawai is hand built with much different techniques and materials, and is becoming more used on large stages. On this page you can find more info about those techniques and materials. You can put it in google translate to english (it is in dutch). emilevanleenenpianos.nl/shigeru-kawai

The great, great pianist Earl Wild, moved from Baldwin to Shigeru Kawai, when Baldwin's Concert Department ceased to be. Wild's last two CD albums, recorded age 88 and age 90, are played on a Shigeru Kawai EX Concert Crand, and the round is powerful and ravishing.

I love Kawai pianos! I have an RX-2. Their time is sweeter than Yamaha.
