    Downtown Abbey is one of those shows where, when you start it, you think, "I'll just watch an episode..."
    And four days later, you've binged it again.

    "Binge watching!" My favorite, especially with British mystery series. I've always preferred to see the finished product "in the whole".

      Not the usual happy chirpy predictable questions. I think Mr. Fellowes was delighted with the type of questions.

    I'm pausing this interview at the 20-minute mark to express just how much I'm enjoying it. Who is the interviewer? This is the best interview I've ever heard with Julian Fellowes. Extremely well done! (Love the simplicity of the set as well.)

      +LauraMorland Oscar Pearson is the interviewer. Don't know anything about him, but a very pleasant fellow.

      But, as someone above noted, a little TOO informal. Snobbish, in other words.

      You must be mindless to be thinking about That while listening to a person with a great mind.

      @@janiekcarney5482 Yes, I must be. However I can't agree that JF has a great mind.. He is very good at taking someone else's idea (ever heard of Upstairs Downstairs) and endlessly recycling it (Gosford Park, his Titanic miniseries, The Gilded Age...same story, different faces. Sometimes.) So, great ego? Yes. Great mind? Not so much.

    Is there some reason the interviewer chose to show up looking so scruffy and disreputable? You’re interviewing an accomplished professional and a gentleman and you choose to show up looking like someone who crawled out from under a bridge? He’ll have no future in journalism making a choice like that. Kudos to Fellowes for behaving with perfect aplomb, despite the disrespectful appearance of the interviewer. He conducted himself as a gentleman would, of course.

      It was about substance not appearances.

      Which is more important? How he is dressed or whether the questions are intelligent and the fact that the interviewer didn’t rattle on for five minutes asking a question and allowing him one minute to answer.

    Isn’t Fellowes grand? Surprised he doesn’t like stage work as he’s did quite a bit of it whilst scrambling his way upwards. His affiliation to Politics helped him rise through the ranks rapidly as soon as he began writing speeches for major Tory politicians. Needs to get his geography right too - he talks of King of Sweden residing in Oslo!!

    historical inaccuracy??? he bloody wrote the book downton is full of em when he hasn't plagerised the whole of the flower fete episode in downton from the film mrs minver..this guy would make a good politition (if that isn't a contradiction in terms).hes hypocritical enough!

    • @osmundbullock2219
      @osmundbullock2219 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not a contradiction in terms, but a fairly bizarre way of spelling it (along with much of the rest of your post). Why not use a spell-check...or don't you care? Well, you should do: accurate, well-presented writing makes an argument more impressive and (along with good punctuation) easier to understand.

    • @JRobbySh
      @JRobbySh 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The historic inaccuracy remains.

    • @magnacz

      Artistic freedom, he didn't write a documentary. The flower show and who would win it is probably the same all over England. Also the cricket match, nothing unusual or original in that.

    Why did they have to bring politics into this? I respect Fellowes’ work, but his political views are irrelevant and have really just spoiled everything. He defends the closing of the mines, but doesn’t really say what the conservatives have done to help the people left behind. What did the torries do to help people find alternative jobs, or afford training in something new? But they’ve made quite sure to tell people it was all Europe’s fault. And of course, like all privileged people, he makes some empty remarks about the U.K. not benefitting from the EU membership, meaning that EU rules means he can’t quite do whatever he likes, and knowing full well that he’s well shielded from whatever happens after the exit. A sorry end to what was an interesting interview.
