I don't get why people don't understand that this movie is not glorifying Alia's character. It is trying to portray that this character has issues and it has a lot to do with how she was raised. Not every character will be ideal or perfect then there'd be no point in making a movie.

Okay so for everyone comparing Safeena to Kabir Singh; you have to realize that Safeena's anger and aggression stems from the abuse, and oppression she faces daily at home. Im not condoning her actions at all (there's no need to be violent). But you can very CLEARLY see the link between her being suppressed at home and her outbursts. Ofc she lacks emotion regulation and has anger management issues, but she deals with the consequences and later realizes her wrong ways. With Kabir Singh, his anger is rooted in issues that are intrinsic to him. Not criticizing him but both characters are inclined towards violence because of different reasons. Also, noone celebrated Safeena being violent, people were just praising the fact that we have not seen a dynamic character like hers in mainstream movies in a while.
This can be explained only to those who r interested to understand the psychology of the character ..not to those who are just willing to see the surface of the character

If the character would have been of a boy who is so violent, people would have created such a ruckus about this scene. Here, as it's a girl who is violent and is brazenly hitting someone with a beer bottle, everyone is okay with her pathetic behaviour. Rules should be the same for everyone, irrespective of the gender.

I really don't like safeena, like, at all. But that's the thing; I think Zoya Akhtar was trying to show that realistically, that there are girls who behave the way safeena do. Notice how safeena's jealousy was not entirely because of Skye BEING WITH Ranveer, it was also at Skye herself. Because they grow up in a toxic environment, being oppressed as a girl, when they see another girl who's independent free and happy with her life, they get jealous and don't think sensibly because of it. That's essentially what happened here, and it's the sad truth about many girls.

This scene is shown as toxic only. Safeena gets this toxicity and violence from her mother. This is how toxic parenting affect children. Either they become complaint characters or they become aggressive. Unlike Kabir Singh, Safeena faces consequences. She ends up in police station. Her parents got involved. Her college was almost stopped. No other character in the movie applauds what she did. If the audience is clapping, then there is something wrong with the audience.

I think the main difference between Kabir Singh and safeena is that when Kabir Singh hits a guy who misbehaved with preeti, she starts crying and hugging him, even though they weren't even in a relationship yet. But when safeena hits the girl who her boyfriend ( since school time) cheated on with, she is taken to the police station, she's grounded by her family, and her boyfriend breaks up with her.

It's infuriating just like Kabir Singh, but unlike Kabir Singh, safeena is never applauded. She is the representation of the pseudo educated society in which she was bred. Murad being someone from a "lower strata" has more decency than her. This movie is a sheer criticism on class hypocrisies and safeena much deservingly gets dumped by Murad later and realises her mistake. All characters are nuanced and flawed here and they are only applauded when they grow up from their mistakes. I don't call myself a feminist but I still felt Kabir Singh was trash and I love this movie for its honest depictions. This movie is reality. I respect and understand where you come from. Kabir singh - fought with his college mates when they tried to molest preeti on holi party. He took stand for his relationship when preeti's family didn't accept his relation with preeti. Well, Safeena should have hit Murad too. He’s equally responsible for cheating. A lot of the time, we tend to get angry at the other woman, while we believe our partners who also made the real mistake are saints who were tempted. Also, I hated how Sky was acting all smart and trying to make Murad jealous in front of Safeena (by kissing Sher and having her arms around him, etc.). And then, she behaves awkwardly around Safeena when she and her friend discuss the graffiti posts. She then leaves the situation to talk to Murad because she knows she’s about to get caught. Honestly, any girl would be pissed as Safeena was. But if it were me, I would have hit Murad, and left Sky out of it.

Safeena clearly mentions atleast 3/4 times not to interrupt her interrogation,and doesn't even question her even though she was involved. She only talks to her bf and asks him why he lied. Yes This character is toxic and so is Kabir Singh, in real life such behaviour is always bad. But its not that such people don't exist. When you are making a movie you are showing different areas and people of the society. Just because the person who is in centre of the story is a flawed character it doesn't mean his/her flaws are glorified. We can be critical about the character but if we totally blame the intentions of makers then soon we will be left with only safe and vanilla content. Both Safeena and Kabir are conplex characters. Also both Alia and Shahid played these characters amazingly.

Either they become complaint characters or they become aggressive. Unlike Kabir Singh, Safeena faces consequences. She ends up in police station. Her parents got involved. Her college was almost stopped. No other character in the movie applauds what she did. If the audience is clapping, then there is something wrong with the audience.

I think the main difference between Kabir Singh and safeena is that when Kabir Singh hits a guy who misbehaved with preeti, she starts crying and hugging him, even though they weren't even in a relationship yet. But when safeena hits the girl who her boyfriend ( since school time) cheated on with, she is taken to the police station, she's grounded by her family, and her boyfriend breaks up with her.

It's infuriating just like Kabir Singh, but unlike Kabir Singh, safeena is never applauded. She is the representation of the pseudo educated society in which she was bred. Murad being someone from a "lower strata" has more decency than her. This movie is a sheer criticism on class hypocrisies and safeena much deservingly gets dumped by Murad later and realises her mistake. All characters are nuanced and flawed here and they are only applauded when they grow up from their mistakes.
I don't call myself a feminist but I still felt Kabir Singh was trash and I love this movie for its honest depictions. This movie is reality. I respect and understand where you come from. And I definitely do not support violence.

A lot of the time, we tend to get angry at the other woman, while we believe our partners who also made the real mistake are saints who were tempted. Also, I hated how Sky was acting all smart and trying to make Murad jealous in front of Safeena (by kissing Sher and having her arms around him, etc.). And then, she behaves awkwardly around Safeena when she and her friend discuss the graffiti posts. She then leaves the situation to talk to Murad because she knows she’s about to get caught. Honestly, any girl would be pissed as Safeena was. But if it were me, I would have hit Murad, and left Sky out of it.

Yes This character is toxic and so is Kabir Singh, in real life such behaviour is always bad. But its not that such people don't exist. When you are making a movie you are showing different areas and people of the society. Just because the person who is in centre of the story is a flawed character it doesn't mean his/her flaws are glorified. We can be critical about the character but if we totally blame the intentions of makers then soon we will be left with only safe and vanilla content. Both Safeena and Kabir are conplex characters. Also both Alia and Shahid played these characters amazingly.
