Middle of the pack runner here. The Alphafly 3 actually totally works for me, even at easier paces. Besides, from where I'm from, its one of the most accessible supershoe: the NB SC Elite, the Hoka Cielo and the Rocket, the Saucony Endo Pro and Elite, the Metaspeed Edge and Sky Paris, the Cloudboom Strike, all are more expensive than the Alphafly 3. So, overrated? I don't know about that. Again and again it delivers and, for the sort of runner that I am, it's exactly what I need right now more than any other supershoe.
I completely agree. I love my Alphafly v1 and nothing has come close since. Sent the v2s back straight away. The v3s went back after one run. Nike need to bring back the v1!!! They would sell loads!
Have you ran in the Metaspeed Sky? That’s what I’m going with at Mesa in February. I just got a fresh pair of the Paris edition. I’ve never wanted to try the Alphafly. I considered it for the upcoming full, but ultimately went with the Metaspeed again.
I loved your take on the Endorphin Pro 4. I have been a fan of the Endorphin range since its inception. I share your opinion on the Pro 4…it might be magic for many but I can only use it for speed work and shorter distances.
I’ve been racing in the Saucony Elites and love em. They work out well for with stride/gate and my foot dynamics. Had the Nike Vaporfly 2’s prior and Elites take the cake.
Yes they’re different ride experiences. The Elite have more of a locked-in “set it and forget it” feel that I know works 22 miles into a run. The Puma shoe is springier but also aggressive and better at higher speeds. I am going to see in a week how it performs at mile 22-26. If it does not push me like the Elite, I’m sure it will still be a good time (for me). I’ll definitely make a video on the experience
I'm now on my 2nd pair of AF V3, and the heel is a curse and a blessing. The lack of foam (due to how much they cut out) in the heel can cause some interesting cornering. In my tune-up half marathon ahead of Chicago I nearly rolled my ankle 3 times in my 1st pair of AF V3, it got in my head so badly I went out and got my hands on another pair for Chicago. Normally I have zero concerns in the shoe, I love the AF V3. (225k in the AF V1, 250k in the AF V2, 250k combined in 2 pairs of AF V3). But I'm really wishing they had provided just a weeeeee bit more structure to the heel foam on the AF V3 for 32k+ and cornering situations. But who is Nike going to cater to? Sub 2:30hr people with beautiful mechanics or 50yr+ mid packers? But one things is for certain....if you get along well with those air pods...wow....pure magic. 4 pairs of AF and 3 pairs of Tempo Next% (1115km, 810k, 250k all still in use) , those air pods just work for me. But I suspect I'm an outlier, since many people seem to have durability issues with the air pods and Tempo Next% specifically. Which reminds me....I need to go track down another pair of Tempo's!

I also think it's overrated until I use others, in my case I can only run in AF3, I agree that AF1 is the best shoe ever made, Nike would do a bid deal just selling them again... but running a marathon in AF3, apart from the speed, the comfort, maybe it's not the main thing in a shoes, but I've never finish a marathon as good as I feel when I finish with AF3, made Boston (2H58) and Berlin (2H51) with AF3 and in both of them my legs were feeling amazing in the end of the 26.2 miles...

I think the AF1 i the greatest running shoe of all time even though I have 2 pairs that got ruined during their first run (2km, 18km), Today, I tried my AF3 and the midsole got seriously damaged after a 10 km run. Thats three pairs of AF-s for 30km. That's all I wanna say about Nike.
@@MidLifeRunner Nike basically can not be reached through customer service. 1st. pair was bought online from a company that went bankrupt shortly after the purchase - no refund. 2nd pair was from KLEKT and they take no responsibilty for anything even though I that pair might have been counterfeit, midsole turned into sg like a shaving foam and melted away. Third time is the charm, this time everything should be all right for a refund. I will let you know.
TL;DR Heel striker complaining a shoe designed for forefoot striking & elite racing is overrated because it does not accommodate his midlife heel striking. $300 doesn't buy mechanics, strength, technique, or talent....and it takes all of that for the proper use of that shoe over 26.2 . Since you can't place a square peg into round hole, it's overrated?
Front foot striker here… The AF3 and VF3 does not work for me as a race day shoe either. So maybe there is more to it than this. My go-to shoe for race day this season has been the Metaspeed Edge Paris, just as a reference.
@@BufanMuayThai There's more to the validity that the shoe is overrated? A week ago Chepngetich shattered the women’s world marathon in the shoe (2:09:56) and a year ago Kiptum (RIP) ran a 2:00:35 in the shoe breaking the men’s marathon record by 34 seconds. Since people who the shoe is designed for break world records in the shoe it's probably not overrated, fair to say? Midlife runner knows this is just clickbait, all in good fun and I'm just biting.
@@therapygrindTotally disagree. I think his point is that it's overrated for who the shoe is marketed for - everyone. This shoe, and most if not all super shoes, are utterly useless for the vast majority of runners who buy running shoes. This is well studied. It's like 1, maybe 2% increase in efficiency for novice runners. And you pay $300 or more for that? That's the very definition of overrated for me. It's a gimmick, and an incredibly lucrative one for shoe makers. Carbon plates and super foams have contributed to countless records over the last few years, and will continue to do so. But the benefit is for elite and highly trained professionals. Not for the masses. But marketing a shoe for a few elites wouldn't make much money would it?
@@benappleby693 Motion Control shoes are marketed to everyone as well but it's your job as a consumer to educate yourself if a MC shoe is a fit for you - and not just accept advertising. If you buy a carbon plate racing shoe and use it as a daily trainer and suffer metatarsal stress fractures - that's on you the consumer for being under educated on what you're getting into. AF3 & Adidas EnergyRods 2.0 racing shoes are designed for forefoot strikers with a bmi of 18-21 (elite marathoners) and racing. That's the demographic and the hype & rating of the shoe is valid for the demographic it's designed for. What's not valid is being outside of the demographic yet having the same expectations as who it's designed for. The Hoka Cielo X1 and its duel-layer PEBA midsole has significant lateral sway in forefoot striking for me and my 25 BMI. I'm not going to claim the shoe is overrated or even has a design problem - because it does not work for me, I'm outside the demo for the shoe. I've never heard of anyone having a problem returning a shoe that did not live up to the expectations for them.
I agree - I bought a pair, wanted to fall in love with it, but ended up returning it and getting my money back. Was the slowest shoe I tested and I had to work harder for the paces too. I ended up racing in the AF2 believe it or not! That shoe just works for me. One day I'd love to get my hands on the AF1 but I don't like my chances...
You need to put effort into your run to get the most out of these shoes. They're not going to just make you faster. In fact, if you're running slow to moderate pace in these, it kind of works against you, and the value of the shoe goes down a ton because they're also not that durable. So you're putting wear on a $275 shoe without getting the performance out of it. With that said, if the shoes make you feel good and they motivate you to go run, then that's awesome, but there are plenty of great shoes out there for a fraction of the price with better performance for the hobby jogger.
Agreed. My field test with the super shoes was at marathon pace. I get more energy return from other shoes over this one. But I understand everyone is different, height, weight, stride mechanics , ground contact time etc
Agreed. The original Alphafly has more foam above the pods and fewer midsole cutouts. It’s not much heavier than A3, but it’s much bouncier and probably returns more energy for most runners, especially forefoot strikers. If you want almost as much bounce as the OG Alphafly, super light weight, and speedy smooth transitions-all for a better price-the Sky Paris is a great option. It worked for me in the Chicago Marathon last week (I’ve been an Alphafly guy in the past).
Thanks for the recommendation. That puma fast R elite 2 has some wild bounce but the forefoot has a little more ground contact. I haven’t taken it 26.2 but I think I am going to and see how the feet hold up.
Kelvin Kiptum( Rest in Peace) ran almost a 2 hour marathon in The AlphaFly and you dare to say overrated. If you don't like the ride, your problem stay away of it

What a clickbait. It's not overrated for the rest of the majority of serious runners.
I guess don’t read the comments then because it seems I’m not in the minority 🤷🏻♂️
Love the AF3! Butttt, I did blowout one of the pods this morning with less then 💯 miles on it 😢
😭 refund! They usually will do that. 🤞🏼
@@MidLifeRunner thank you! They did!
Who overrated it you? I hate to say it but to say it’s overrated when you are the one rating it, is a little misleading
@@skywalk3x it’s rated as the number 1 shoe. In my opinion, it is not the number one shoe. I can think of 2-3 better. If you look through the comments there are a ton of people who feel the same way and returned it or turned it into a trainer. There are not a lot of videos out there saying it’s not the best. And it isn’t for many outside of myself. It is a buyer beware. It may not be your #1 and it’s not the alphafly 1
That’s wild! Did Nike give you refunds ?
@@MidLifeRunner Nike basically can not be reached through customer service. 1st. pair was bought online from a company that went bankrupt shortly after the purchase - no refund. 2nd pair was from KLEKT and they take no responsibilty for anything even though I that pair might have been counterfeit, midsole turned into sg like a shaving foam and melted away. Third time is the charm, this time everything should be all right for a refund. I will let you know.
AF3 - dodgy build quality, no big toe overlays. Less forefoot stack than V1. I agree overrated at that price. Sky Paris on the other hand 👌🏼
🙌🏼
Awesome. Thanks !
Good video!
Alphafly 1 = GOAT

He's clickbaiting us.
What’s your PB in the marathon?
@@GradoRuns 3:10
I know other runners who prefer the v2 as it’s super bouncy. Lots of protection
AF 3 is overrated. It had turned into one of the most expensive training shoes for me.
Agree.
Me three. I prefer the vaporfly.
@@AndrewCho730 yes it will be a trainer for me now too because on race day I will prefer something faster
A whole lot of GOOD yapping ;)
Metaspeed sky Paris >
But I understand everyone is different, height, weight, stride mechanics , ground contact time etc
are Jimmy Ray... are you Slim ray... la la la
Goat shoe review troller!!! 🐐 😂
That would be the alphafly v1
@@MidLifeRunner no I called you, yourself, the goat “shoe review troller.”
@@Veteran_Runner 😂 if it aint click bait then I don’t want it
🤦🏻♂️ i think you need to throw some Sprite on some people 🤷🏻♂️
@@LuisBecerra79 🙈
Blasphemy! *gasp*
It’s literally the fastest shoe on the planet.
Idk if you knew but shoes dont run. You need the fastest RUNNER, so the fastest shoe is total bs
@@GradoRuns indeed! The highest rating there is. Without it, the should wouldn’t be overrated.
no not the fastest shoe, the best shoe for running
I don’t know if you knew but the alpha fly is tested by runners to out perform the last shoe. Shoes don’t run, but a good shoe make you run faster.
@@skywalk3x this one is faster than most shoes but other super shoes give me more economical energy return
Kelvin Kiptum( Rest in Peace) ran almost a 2 hour marathon in The AlphaFly and you dare to say overrated. If you don't like the ride, your problem stay away of it
Yes. And the women’s record recently set was also the fastest time in the world. That’s why it is rated the #1 shoe and it isn’t , hence over rated
Nike as a whole is completely overpriced and overrated
100% agree with this. AF 3 is way overrated. I'll take the Endorphin Elite or Asics Metaspeed Speed Sky Paris over it. I got them all 3...
🙌🏼 No doubt - and that puma shoe is 🔥 though the endorphin elite is sneaky the best thing ever also
No 😂🤡
