This thing really speaks to the times. For the first time, AE ditched the old school way of thinking and started following what was gaining interest on the tracks (i.e. Losi XX). I always believed that Kinwald leaving AE for Losi scared Cliff Lett, Gene Husting, Mike Reedy, etc. to the point that they conceded in their traditional design concepts, in favor of a the composite chassis and molded frontend. Later on, while Kinwald leaving might have gotten their attention....when Matt Francis joined Losi in much the same way...that seemed to have put them into panic mode. I always assumed that helped usher in the B4....and the most dominant reign the 2wd class will likely ever see.

Goes to show you that AE doesn't really care about the best design. As long as it sells and they have good enough drivers to hustle their shit into the winner's circle, that's good enough for them.

@@doctormosfet 100%! AE always felt like the evil empire back then. Supporting the Losi and Schumacher families in the 90's felt like I was a part of the struggle to stick it to AE. Also, they were always trying cool new ideas.

That single post battery strap mount ends up denting the NiCd cell (or break the case and dent a lipo cell) if they are run all the way in the forward position, lol.

Its funny that you say it drives like a B4 - I did the conversions, gt wide front axle, b4 rear hubs and hexes and cvds (from memory) and it drives exactly like my old B4.1 Oh did the B4 topshaft conversion too.

Great video. Question, where did you get the shock spring tensioners? I have a T3 and don’t want the clips and I’m not sure what fits these? I race the T3 locally and have for years and it’s a durable car, I haven’t broke too many parts and the ones that have worn and needed replaced I’ve been able to source but it’s waiting is the issue. Thanks.

oh i've just had clips lying around from other builds, so I just pull from the pile to use here. You may be able to find some RPM clips on ebay, though...

Thank you for uploading the recent two videos - I was looking forward to some new videos of your projects. A question - as I noticed you use TrackStar Turnigy's a lot: how does a Turnigy compare to a (more modern) Reedy Power S+ Plus with the same turns, power wise? I am building a Cougar Classic with upgraded chassis components to race and are contemplating 13.5T. Anyway, I always enjoy your content.

Yeah, the TrackStar stuff is not bad for the price. They seem to not make the V2 motors anymore, for some reason, and so now they only offer their older V1 motors. Basically a knockoff of the first gen Reedy Sonic. They get the job done, especially for club racing, but I wouldn't put them on quite the same level as the newer high end stuff. Their 13.5T and 10.5T are more than adequate, though.

@@doctormosfet Okay, thank you, in that case I may try them out. I bought a few 13.5T's to put in shelf queens (because of the retro-esque look and nice red anodizing) and have one left.

Team associated offered a graphite chassis for the B2. A good upgrade or not needed?

Not sure about AE original gray wing buttons (maybe eBay), but I believe Traxxas still makes gray wing buttons.
