- This is going to transform the house but I need to make a change. The battle is on to finish the roof before it gets too hot and that's not easy given the area that needs to be tiled. One things for sure, I will never buy a house with a flat roof again.

I'm not sure what it is. Possibly my own faults of not getting out of my 5 day a week job, but watching your vids and bringing us along with your experience. Is just wonderful and I thoroughly enjoy the ride :)
thank you
400 more subs to 100K !! You earned it!
congratulations! I am also a tiler and would like to give you a tip. try working with knee pads. better for your back and you are faster
Andy aka blond fella, doesnt like takin advice from anyone, he likes rough aching knees.
Being 20 years your senior, the care you are taking now will become even more appreciated when you reach my age. Looks great. Congrats and belated toast.
Happy (late) birthday Andy!! Double 5 is a lucky year ma’man!! 🥰
A night on the tiles for your birthday then eh! Hope you had a lovely day. Th roof is looking grand. We'll done. 🥳👍💞
Life is a great adventure from one tile to another. 55 years includes a large number of tiles of different colours, sizes, and forms. They sometimes lead upwards, sometimes downwards. Sometimes, they are slippery and wet, but fortunately, for the most part, they stay horizontal and dry. When carefully and correctly positioned, they will always be in their intended position.
In all your openness, you are an inspiring and courageous individual who has positioned his tiles wisely. Belated birthday wishes from Finland, Andy! 🥳✨️
Happy birthday Andrew. Just one piece of advice from a retired flooring guy, please invest in knee pads. You will regret not using them later in life. You’re doing a great job as always. Love your channel and appreciate all you do
What a pleasure it is to see all the lushness of the panoramic view surrounding your house. The weather looks perfect and don't we all have to deal with motivation issues. Good to see that you have overcome yours and that there is a fair amount of shade for you to work in. What? 55 !! Oh Andrew, you look at least 10 years younger. "For he's a jolly good fellow, ..and so say all of us, sus sus. " Three cheers for Andy surviving up until now. May he do so for a further 55 years! Party time. - 🎸🍻🎂🎁🎈🎊🪩
Even without the tiles the roof looks amazing Andy. A real credit to you.👌
Happy birthday Andrew‼️😍❤️🎂🍷🍹Please protect your knees. Use gadgets to protect your aging body. Knee pads might help you avoid knee replacements in the near future‼️ You are loved‼️
Very sweet, thank you 👍
The tile looks great! I like the style, color, and texture that you've chosen. It's too bad that it's so fiddly but the old saying goes "if you want it done right, do it yourself". That space will be the gem of the house. Some furniture, plants, food, drink, and music will bring joy to the space. I've got it all planned for you.😊
Great job on the tiles, your hard work pays off😀 love your tenderness with your beautiful dogs🥰
Really enjoying your ongoing story, Andy. Happy belated birthday. I’m an expat DIY TH-camr myself (though my adopted home is Japan), and I enjoy and empathize with your daily struggles (5 hours for one hole!!) Keep on keeping on! Cheers.
Happy Birthday Andrew!
I'm inspired by your work, but I left it a bit late in life to discover your videos. Age and arthritis in my joints preclude me from attempting anything quite so energetic.
So, I will admire your efforts, cheer you on with each project's success, and celebrate with a very cold Diet Pepsi! Lol!
Blessed Be!
Hi Andy, thanks for the update, have to commend your ability not to rush it, attention to every detail on that tile fall is fantastic
Happy Belated Birthday 🎉
Wishing you continued good health and happiness 😊
Happy Birthday, Andrew! 🎂🎉 I also just turned 55 last week on the 6th. 😊 The main reason I subscribed is for your positive, go to attitude. Even when things get tough, you don't let it bring you down. At least not for long. It's been really inspiring as I'm turning my own life around after a rough spot. The roof is looking awesome and I can't wait to see the end result! Take care and enjoy that beautiful weather! 🌞
Happy Birthday Andy. I’ve been watching for over a year and love your channel. Knee pads might be a welcome addition for your poor knees. Two knee replacements later; she knows what she’s talking about. Your roof is going to be a great additional bonus room. I’m a star gazer so envy your non-light polluted roof.
Happy belated Birthday, Andy. I hope you had a really good day.
Andy I really do appreciate you. It's so nice to be able to share in this project and your life. Your dedication is admirable and your demeanor (even when you're upset LOL) brings me peace. I look forward to each and every update.
Thankyou your stonking effort warrants a sunday morning bacon butty for me .... on your behalf 😅
that would be perfect right now
The rooftop is looking good. You are creating a lovely area to relax and enjoy the landscape. Take care and God bless you and keep you safe. ✌🏻❤️🙏🏻🇺🇸
Belated Happy Birthday Andy, yer such a hard grafter. There is an easier way to do the roof,............................ get James to do it lol.
Happy Birthday! Well you are putting the icing on the cake even though the cake beneath is still a work in progress. Your attention to detail is remarkable! Love It!
thank you
Did Tile for 25 years, do all the cuts before mixing the thinset and the most important thing is Scratch that trowel on the floor, the more scratching the more it will adhere and never come loose.
Happy Birthday, Andrew of Real Algarve Living! So happy to come across your videos late last year and your presence, your work and the uniquely meditative quality of your videography has been both healing and grounding. It is amazing isn't it, how one affects the world with one's energy. Much gratitude. I am no fixer upper of any kind but love restorations. Your attentiveness, precision and care for the work you do is wonderful to watch. Wishing you a wonderfully fulfilling birthday year!
Very kind of you. Thank you. 😎👍
Happy Birthday from Florida USA! So like your honest dialogue with the followers!
Thanks
Watching from Florida also!
Happy belated birthday Andrew! you are now a person of accumulated youth ;)
Belated Happy Birthday Andy! Just in your prime of life & look at what you have achieved already. Amazing. ❤️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Happy birthday 🎂 fellow taurean.. mines on the 14th.. this home is going to be awesome.. you just know 😊😊
Happy Birthday 🎉 I love your videos but most of all I love your persistence! You might be frustrated but you keep going ! You are able to handle changes much better than most of us.
Boy, you can say that again! Andrew has a lot of lessons to teach in that area, for sure.
I hope, Mr Andrew, that you will do a live broadcast for us so that we can talk to you
You work very hard mate, it’ll all pay off in the end 🇬🇧🇵🇹❤️✌🏻
Well done Andy. You deserve a beer or two! Cheers Ray (UK)
You can cast some concrete gargoyles, or Portuguese equivalent, for your new roof drains. Something to think upon and mentally design during the long slog of placing tiles.😃
At 56 it gives me aches and joint pains just watching you doing all that tiling so graciously. How do you do it?😂
Hello Andy, 🎉Happy Birthday, and many happy birthday wishes for your new transformed home, 😊 good work. Bye for now see you soon next video thanks for sharing your good work 😂!.
thank you
Happy Birthday 🎉 🍰 I love that you reflect and reset. Wonderful words of wisdom to live by. I can’t wait to see where this journey leads you!
Nice and easy does it every time! Great job. Happy Birthday 🥂
A belated birthday greeting from us in Sweden. Happy Birthday Andy! Hope this year goes exactly as you wish and more! You deserve it.💕
When doing such a big job as this undertaking, break into smaller bits. Think: oh, I’ll do 2 rows of 20, then I’ll do something else. I had a ton of gravel on my driveway to move into my backyard - by myself. My neighbours would come by and stop and stare: I’m not that young anymore. How are you doing that, they’d ask. And I replied, one wheelbarrow at a time. It made that huge pile of stones seems more manageable. Of course, there were popsicles to look forward as I was doing this backbreaking job in 38C weather. But it got done!
Ha, 55 is nothing. (You've still half way to go, mate.)
Your comments, at 17 minutes in, are so on point. Getting started on a job is at least half the issue - and that's whether you are a pro or just starting a new skill for the first time.
I can do tiling but a roof terrace this size is a marathon.
When drilling the roof edge drain holes, it may help to use some hosepipe water as a lubricant for the drill/cutter. But I've just been told an oil-based lubricant is an even better stone cutting option, because this cools the cutter and helps it stay sharp longer.
Water is what's usually used for slab cutting, and if nothing else, it keeps the dust down.
I hope it cools down for you! It's unusually hot here in the UK as well.
Many happy returns of the day Andrew! Love the roof tiling. Precision and tenacity by the bucket once again. It will look superb. Love oking forward to seeing your brother again.
Brilliant work!
Looking good!! But where are your knee pads???
Happy birthday Andrew! You are a master of everything. The tile is gonna be a show stopper. Great job.
hi andrew see your point walk a week in my shoes. im a tradesman and hate it when people are looking over my shoulder so to have a camera watching your every move would be hell to me .your doing an amazing job you should be very proud of what your acheiving ignor the doubters the only reason they critisise is because they cant do it themselves and are jealous 👍
Not exactly ... there are many things folks here kinda need to point out, so he lives long enough
to begin the hopefully dry interior. Heat stroke is a bad thing, while working alone. So is wasted work and time when you're
on a tight budget. I've watched andy about two years, and I've built 44 + of my sixty years. restoration of historic buildings.
and all criticism is for I do dearly care for my telecaster toting Taurus bro ...
Hi Andy,
The hole you made extra ,do not forget to waterproof it before water finds his way in your wall.
I was curious, would a downpipe be placed the length of the hole, and sand-cemented into place?
I'm exhausted watching - well done - Happy Birthday
🤣yes, exhausted here too. And HAPPY 55TH BIRDAY Andrew! They used to say life begins at 40. Now that I'm in my 50s, I've got to say I disagree. It can definitely ramp up into amazing things once the clock ticks past 50... if you look after yourself. I love the wisdom that comes with the energy as I'm aging. Much more considered decision making, being clearer about what you will and won't spend your energy on. I see that in you too Andrew and that is a good thing.
I don't think about how old I am, I think about how good I feel, how proud I am about how far I've come. Sure the joints creak a bit at inopportune moments these days, but you can get stronger and healthier as you age, you don't have to wither, stop, shrink away from life, if you don't want to. You are a fine example of this and I appreciate this from your videos.
Andrew, you inspire me, in several ways, but putting myself on video and watching me back is not one of them!🤣🤣🤣🐨💖
🤣
I so look forward to your videos as they act as inspiration on lonely projects. Keep you the phenomenal work and your determination is admirable 😊. Peace ✌🏾
Great video, and heard a Red Neck Nightjar with it's weird mating call , just near the end ; cool !
Thanks for the bird call I’d!
Hats of to your knees and back, i salute them 🇦🇺👍
Happy belated 55th! You're still a young man, with a great vision for your labor of love! Roof looks fantastic!
Happy belated birthday, Andrew! That roof is going to look absolutely smashing! You're going great guns.
thank you
Well done Andrew, we can see how proud you are for achieving this new goal on your own, nice that James can advise you... All the best looking forward to see next videos J&K
Andy, look forward to your posts. What you do needs a lot of physical and metal strength. Wish you well on this tiling project. So looking forward to seeing your progress
Happy Birthday Andy! Your dream home is closer than ever! 🎉
Belated Happy Birthday Andrew, fellow Taurean, and I see I am not the only one, though I am slightly older.
I totally get it with the millions of extra bits to every move, and was already thinking of how you're putting those guys to shame! ..Looking fantastic!!! ❤ And it's so, so worth that extra attention, good on You!!!... heh, watching the night tiling, was wishing i could bring a cup of tea to you!
On those set screws, you can use the temp locktite adhesive (I think it’s the blue one). Will hold that screw in place during each job, but also releases, letting you remove the bit at a later date.
Great job! Happy birthday!!
Enjoying watching your progress so much! Thank You!
G’day Andy, brilliant! The candid nature of your commentary, and sheer dogged commitment are what, most of us appreciate about you. Incredible effort, mate. Enjoy that icy cold beer.. must be time to fire up a Barbie (BBQ).
Best wishes from Brisbane
ooh, Barbie, had had one for a while, today I will 👍
You might regret not using knee pads by the time you are my age (72). I know they are annoying but you will thank me in the future! Anyhoo great job on the tiling. You’ve either got it or you’ve not. Looking forward to seeing the “cuts”. That’s usually what separates the men from the boys IMHO. BTW love the night time nature soundtrack. Reminds me of those old TV documentaries.
Andy your videos are getting so professional now. Just the timing of the music to build interest really stood out for me today. I think you have a future in film if you get bored with renovations 😀
Hard 💪 working man, perseverance gets things going.
Happy Birthday Andrew, you're a very young and fit 55, myself I would of had a heart attack on the 2nd trip of bringing the tiles to the roof, so kudos Amigo, your little piece of heaven is coming along just fine, you have a nice pace going, easy does it, gets it done 👍 ....Javi G.
Marvellous Andrew, lovely job and wow, you keep going! Happy birthday! 🎉
Happy Birthday to you Andy! 🙂
Happy happy birthday, Andrew!!
Keep up the awesome work and thanks for sharing!!!
thank you
17'00 this is such a motivating speech!! More ;o)
Great work. Happy recent Birthday 55. Enjoy your lovely spot in Portugal.
As you kind of alluded to Andy the mental formations are a real challenge. Your so right to acknowledge them as I think they are as important an issue as the technical aspects of the job in hand.
The land/garden/views are already so beautiful and your work just enhances it all.
It’s looking great can’t wait to see you get on next week. 😊
The drill bit is only supposed to be used to guide the front of the core to the wall then take it out it’s not meant to be left in the whole time case you were wondering
You shouldn't have stopped until you had exactly 55 tiles down.😄(kidding)
Happy Birthday!
An Englishman’s home is his castle, you are building a beautiful Portuguese castle ❤
Your an amazing person Andy. Happy birthday and this complicated job with pitch etc would make me lose it, Hero! Much love from New Zealand
Happy Birthday Andy. Those tiles will look awesome.
My nephew lays flooring, i know just how labor intensive it is ,good job. Happy belated birthday Andrew from Seattle washington USA 😁💖🇺🇸💖
Looking good. Hope you had a great birthday Andy. Looking forward to seeing you finish the roof. Great video 👊🏻
Happy birthday Andy, and here's to many more. 🎊🎂🎉
Belated happy birthday Andy.
You have a serious work ethic and patience mate. I'd of just went with a rubberised membrane on the roof. The tiles will look well when it's done but your back and knees might not 😂
Andrew you are amazing and dedicated. Thanks for being so honest about how you feel, your anxious thoughts help you bring real solutions to your problems and you work through them. Bravo!
Been there, Done that, learnt the Language (Spanish in my case) sourced the materials, rebuilt the house from the inside, with two kids whom I had to take to School five days a week, so yes, I know what it's like but I did not leave myself open for critiques of TH-cam. In fact, I worked for the Spanish Town Hall where I lived, the very first foreigner ever to be employed in the Town Hall.
Happy Belated Birthday young man. Looks a monotonous job tiling but its looking mighty swell. Good on you. Have a good week xxxx
My weekly favourite. My 158th video. Finally some sunny warm days in Stockholm, Sweden ❤
I don’t know what kind of sun you get at this time of the year but I would get myself one of those canopy tents to work under. Actually i might even consider tenting a good bit of that roof for regular use. It’s temporary so doubtful you would get problems from that.
🎉happy birthday Andrew!
Flippin' heck mate, thats going to be a dousy to grout! Looking great though, God bless.
yep, not looking forward to that
Happy Birthday🎉
Am beyond impressed with your patience, skill and vision for sure ...patience double wow
Firstly, belated Happy Birthday. Roof is looking great. Thank you for talking to us this week. Your videos are so much better when you do. Yes, your fans are needy, lol. I am looking forward to joining you again next week, until then, take care
Happy birthday Andrew! Time does fly by. I can see how difficult it is to do the work you do AND create TH-cam content. You are so good at it! I love that you bring your viewers in to join your journey. You have made great progress with that roof. I wish you smooth tiling for the rest of the week!
Love your videos. Hope you had a great birthday. 🎉
Great work Andy! Professional tiller would not have had the same perfect slope. 🙏
Happy Birthday from Kentucky.
thank you
Happy Birthday! Little tip, if you grind a little flat section on the centre drill shaft where the grub screw meets & holds the drill in place it will help to hold it more securely and less chance of it vibrating loose.... good for the next hole :) Love your content, thx for sharing.
That's actually a really good idea....would a small "pilot" hole do the same?
@@nwicconsultants6640 You could but drill bits are usually very hard tooling steel, at least the quality ones are, so trying to drill a pilot hole would be very tricky and without the right gear you would likely snap a few bits. With hole saw centres usually just a quick grind will help a lot.
@@user-ey6tf9nb8d You're absolute correct. I think I'll go with your first suggestion...thank you!
Awesome job. That’s hard work. I get tired just watching you.
