    I use rubber 2qt feed bowls for water. I can simply break the ice out and refill with fresh water. I have also seen my rabbits chew the ice as well.

      That is true, I forgot to mention that they will chew the ice.

    hi Chris great video as always.. I know rabbits do fine in cold weather but I didn't have my set up built when I got them and they were in the garage, one of my does has since had a litter will she and the kits be ok with the temp change or should I wait till they are a bit older so I don't shock them. not sure if they get shocked by temp change...

      I think I would wait until the kits are about 2 weeks old. Also, watch the weather, if you have a warm stretch coming try to time it so the move coincides with that. They will probably be fine either way but just to be on the safe side that is how I would do it. Hope that helps.

    What I'm going to do is but extra tarps for my rabbitry. Where can I buy the crock bowls?

      I believe they are just called ceramic dog dishes on amazon. I used plastic jugs for my chickens. I changed them twice a day like he said. But I like the plastic cuz I would just whack it against a fence and all the ice breaks out easily. You can't whack ceramic and have to waste water or wait for it to melt.

    Hey, I now have 2 baby Rex bunnies that are 7-8 weeks old. They are in our garage so no wind will hit them. I have a blanket covering part of there hutch and a blanket in there hutch. We don’t have much hay left either. But we have shavings we can use. I just need help because I live in Edmonton Canada and it’s getting really cold. It was -21 today and next week it will be -45.

    • @Slightlyrednecked
      @Slightlyrednecked  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is very cold indeed. As long as they are out of the wind, they should do fine. Sounds like you have a nice set up for them.

    Can you feed your rabbits snow instead of water all winter long?

    • @Slightlyrednecked
      @Slightlyrednecked  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can give them snow. I don' t know if I would want to do that all winter long but it can be done for sure.

    How cold would it have to be outside before you wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving them outside. I live in Minnesota were we can have lows of -50

    • @Slightlyrednecked
      @Slightlyrednecked  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      well there is no chance of it getting that cold here. I have kept them outside in temps down to -10 but that doesn't last for long here. If you have good wind blocks they would probably do fine but I can't speak to that from a standpoint of experience.

    • @Mikkeronza

      I would give them wooden houses just big enough for them to fit in to help trap their body heat, in that kind of cold.

    Damn i was looking for info for my rabbits for minus 40. Minnesota not Missouri, - does Missouri even have "winter"?
    ok looking further.

      th-cam.com/video/HDrZv512h14/w-d-xo.html Maybe you ought to search for keeping rabbits in Alaska, or Siberia, or wherever you are from.

      @@Jamiek485 ha ha yeah maybe, but when i worked a few weeks in Wisconsin one time it was below minus 40 so i am sure people have a method for this other than just heaters or putting them in a barn with the cows.

      It could be any number of things. You said that they have hay and pellets. Are they still with the mother too? if not it is probably due to weaning enteritis or something similar. if they are still with the mother I would be concerned with Cociodosis. Have you opened any of them up and checked the organs?

    • @brianphilbrook5262
      @brianphilbrook5262 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Slightly Rednecked no I haven’t I wasn’t really sure what to look for. They are still with the mother. Usually I don’t take them from Mom until 8 weeks.

    • @brianphilbrook5262
      @brianphilbrook5262 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Slightly Rednecked I’ve considered cociodosis but can they pick that up in winter? I’m in northern Maine so it’s real cold out.

    heated dog water bowls

    • @Slightlyrednecked
      @Slightlyrednecked  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      that is a great idea if you have easy access to electricity and can keep the rabbits from chewing the cords.

    • @therabbitswhisper
      @therabbitswhisper 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Slightlyrednecked The wires have metal wire wrapped around the cords to prevent chewing. I use a 50' extension cord through a garage window. Works great.
