Just watched this film & I was pleasantly surprised without knowing anything going into it. Dakota Johnson continues to have great performances & Burghardt was a lovely new discover. A 9/10 film for me!

I saw it at Sundance. I watched it again today. Yup. Despite being a STACKED year for film thus far. Cha Cha Real Smooth is my #1 favorite film of 2022.

She straight up JUMPS on top of this man’s groin on the second time she sees him, whilst being engaged, IMMEDIATELY after she lost a damn baby for crying out loud, in a house that was inherited THROUGH her fiancés family, being sober, while the fiancé is out working. Now if anyone in this chat will say that that is ok, then you have a problem.
What exactly is “fantastic” about this movie? You have a creep who legit hangs out with high schoolers who messes around with an engaged woman. And the woman is even worse. Not only did her fiancé is taking care of them both financially, with a place to stay, but also hires a babysitter for an autistic daughter that’s not even his. If anything, he’s the victim here. Then you have this creep who claims to be 22 but looks damn near 40 asking an autistic child if he can sleep next to her since he can’t scratch her back. This is creep level 5000. Tell me, would you be comfortable letting a “22” year old man who looks 40 babysit your autistic daughter all night every night? You wouldn’t wonder why this man wants so bad to babysit her? This movie is so bad. Like insanely bad. And the mother of the autistic child is even worse! Agreed - my favourite film of the year so far and has gone into my top 10 of all time. Dakota Johnson is fast becoming a fave actress of mine too… Her subtly sets her apart for me
Man, this film really resonated with me, yet... I'm BOTH Andrew AND Domino. I wrestle with the stages of autism, because Lola is ALSO me, I have a child and had to lose my spouse like Domino, but I also don't know myself like Andrew and don't know if I ever really will. The ending was too real, and it made me wish I could find my own Domino but not have to deal with the painful reality attached. I hope there's some hope in my future. Right now, my life isn't really much. So I couldn't give it a high score because it was too much like how my life is going right now and I was not remotely satisfied.
SAMEEE. I kind of hated it. Cringe, bad dialogue, bad message, protagonist is a douche if you look at all his actions, etc etc. I don’t get the hype man. Same with Peanut Butter Falcon
