Hello lovely friends. It's been a long time coming but here we are with our first video of 2024. Thank you for all your kind comments asking how we are. We're touched to know you've been thinking of us. There have been a number of reasons why it's taken so long to get started, but all is explained in the video. Big hugs to you all. Jill & Noel ... (and Roy) xxx
I cannot tell you just how happy I was when you popped up on my feed. How I've missed you and have thought of you often wondering what could have happened! Relief to have you back and so pleased things are moving on. My very favourite people on YT. ❤😊
Lovely to have you back. 31 years ago I was in your position. Talk about a battle to move forward and keep up the farming too. I know exactly what the Engineer said. But listen, the problem was overcome satisfactorily and the house was restored. Only problem now is I need to upgrade a bit and also the storms have damaged my roof, the entire 52' length of it. The challenges never stop. 😂
This is the joy of having this channel - connecting with like-minded people and others who have some knowledge of renovation from personal experience. It really is a labour of love… but immensely satisfying. Good luck with your roof. 😊❤🏠
I'm sorry you went through such a difficult time with your house sale. Moving house, selling a house and renovating a house in Ireland - all at the same time! Sheesh! I am amazed at how you've cleared the land around the house it's hardly recognizable and looks much more manageable now going forward with your plans. I'm afraid to hear about what the builder had to say about the footing. Scary cliffhanger! 😨
All that you went through with selling house is part of the journey of rebuilding your new home. It adds backstory or dimension to your story. WELCOME BACK!
You’re right, an anxious time because of the unknown and not feeling in control. It’s a real test of faith. If anything it makes you realise how much you want something… the thought of losing it, when something of a perceived obstacle comes along. 😊❤️
So glad you’re back! I’m afraid he said your foundation is not to code and you may need to take down the cottage or dig out the perimeter to add footings. Fingers crossed that it isn’t that bad!
In many ways we’ve barely begun, but when listed like this we’ve had some high ticket jobs now out of the way. Delay necessary while we work to refill the pot! 🤣
I was wondering when you'd be back! Nice to see you! Spring is slow up here, still in the 30s F at night, so seedlings are all inside, keep potting them up. Are you going to say that there are no footings, just stones on which some sills were laid? They dug a trench and piled stones? How's the sweetgum tree, did it make it through the winter? Glad your house sold!
I do hope it's not too bad with the footings, it doesn't sound good... I don't know anything about native trees in your area, in Ireland but I think you should plant mostly natives as much as possible, including anything that fruits, a flowering meadow sounds absolutely great & beneficial, i love it when i see on many TH-cams how they have left areas of their properties go just to see what pops up & many are surprised. please share again soon, the suspense is already killing me! thanx so much for coming back, looking forward to actual renovation of the old stone building ... (but would like to see what you finished in the home you're currently living in too, it was a mess when you left us) thanx for sharing
We will certainly plant native trees, and there are a number to choose from. Can’t wait till we get to that stage. In the meantime I’ll upload again very soon… just takes a while to edit and create the videos, but I’m on it. 😊👍🙌❤️
Your property, do what you like. We built 30 years ago and had to chop some trees down to do it. We eventually planted more than 10x what we chopped down.
Nice to see you back! But what a cliff hanger!!! Yes, this winter and spring with those at least 11 storms (some were not named) was a challenger for builders, gardeners and people with mental health issues. Really horrible.
Absolutely. Lovely to reconnect with names and faces who feel like old friends. The delay was pro ably necessary, and the time feels right now to proceed. Hope you are keeping well and didn’t get any storm damage. Noel is worried about his little tree but we hope it has survived. We won’t keep you waiting too long for the next instalment. 😊❤️🙏
I am so happy that you are back 🙏❤️ i have been checking periodically and tonight I was delighted to find this video 👏👍🏻🙏❤️ I can’t wait to catch up on your progress 🙏❤️
What a lovely comment. Thanks Carolyn, yes it’s been slow but should start picking up pace soon. While Noel was waiting he started playing with mud from the field. You may be interested in watching that video too - he makes a beaker mug. 😊🙌👍❤️
Welcome back, I had been thinking about your channel just the other week. I'm happy to let the ads run so you can make more (or any) money. Looking forward to your next video.
Just wondered what happened knew you would replant again looking forward to seeing more content, don't mind the adverts most of the TH-cam I watch has adverts 🏴👍
Glad to see you back, you know what, maybe all the delays with selling your house are a godsend. Because the weather was so crap that your building would have been delayed. Saturated ground, high winds, etc. Not ideal building weather. Hopefully now with the better weather, things will start to move along nicely. Footings or no footings that is the question😅😂
So true! I like your stoicism. These things are sent to test us, but we have lots to be thankful for and I agree about the timing. Re the footings all will be revealed very soon. 👍🙌❤️
Nice to see you back. Hmmm, cliffhanger and yes - I am ANGRY at you for making me wait for the answer! Haha, teasing - well maybe a bit angry...kidding. Okay, so is it possible the house was built right on the ground with no foundation because not too far down there's water? Being used to basements in our modern world, or at the very least a "footing" of some type, it could make a person feel uncomfortable knowing water is not too far beneath but it drains naturally and won't come up to flood you but that's only a guess. Hi Roy!
@@TheHiddenHouseIreland I would do all of the native trees and shrubs. I would put the willows in an area that gets a lot of water. Put an oak or two in an area that has a lot of room to grow and expand without jeopardizing the house or views. I would plant flowering trees on the drive in and out both sides to make majestic entry to your home and property. Plus flowers everywhere to beautify the area.
Glad to see you back and you are both ok. You need a static caravan to use while building. That little caravan is not right for the job. Please dont do cliffhangers.I really dislike them as I feel I'm wasting my time watching the video. Not being rude, just honest .
@@TheHiddenHouseIreland if it is mud I hope you don't get to much movement. If it's been there that long it should be OK fingers crossed it's not too bad.

What a kind comment. Thank you Anita. 🙏❤️
What a lovely surprise to see you back today. You certainly have done a lot around the cottage, it will be amazing when it is done x

So pleased to see you back!! No footing under original house? Sounds like expensive bad news to me. Will have to underpin the house foundations?
🤐
I do hope it's not too bad with the footings, it doesn't sound good...

I imagine your terrarium is lovely. Ours is an old fishing float… no plants inside but a nice table feature. 😊❤️

Great to see you folks again, and what you have been up to..
What did he say ? 🤷♂️
You’ll find out soon😊
I was only wondering today how you guys were going and how your home is getting on .. love from Australia 🇦🇺❤️
You must have sensed we were about to emerge. Hope all is well with you over there. ❤️

Me thinks maybe your little cottage will have to be knocked maybe cos of the foundation.
?😢Great to hear from you both Jill and Noel

You won’t have to wait too long, lol. Hopefully the next one e will be uploaded in a couple of days. 😊
Can you give us a list of native trees, bush, and flowers so that we can make proper suggestions?
Certainly. oak, ash, hazel, birch, Scots pine, rowan and willow are originally native trees. Sycamore, beech and spruce came later. 😊

Hmm... No footings means it's just a shed? It can come down? Inquiring minds need to know...
You'll have to wait for the next video... 🤣

i know her
I like your videos overall but I don’t think you should title a video “where are the footings” and then leave the question unanswered.
O no no footings your built on mud?
I’m dying to reply but don’t want to post a spoiler so for now… 🤐
