Thanks! This is helpful! I definitely prefer option 1 where you use the same side arm or leg and turn your body as appropriate! It could be because I’m from a dancer background so I’m way more used to making as close a recreation of a position as possible.
I’m a little confused by some of these positions though, it seems like the arm positions for both fishtail and knight are the same? How do you tell them apart?

Hi! Thanks for your comment. :) I always used the land drill option number 1 when I was a swimmer. But as I mentioned in the video, it is confusing as it does not replicate 100 % of what happens in the water. And the knight and fishtail problem - yes, they look the same, but you can differentiate by turning your palm up or down. Palm down means knight and palm up would mean fishtail (palm means heel). I hope that helps! :)

I didn't realize there was more than one way (surface POV all the time vs. surface view when head up, and underwater POV). I couldn't figure out why my duet partner and I kept turning in opposite directions when upside down.

I am glad that this video sheds some light on both ways of land drilling. It is much more difficult if one person lands drills one way and the other the other way haha Did you manage to agree on one version only? :)

Interesting video! I sent it to my fellow coaches and athletes. I prefer to use method 2. An additional tip I give my athletes here, is that 'your eyes are in your butt'. That makes it easier to understand. Especially with the tip in the other comment here (palms of hands are soles of feet), will definitely try it out to explain it that way!
