    I used a "Hillman 3/8" E-Clip
P/N 881397" ($1.50 at Tractor Supply) to make the rod stay on. Best part is there is no drilling it just clips on very strong connection. I pulled on it forcefully and it didn't moved or come off. Thanks Coach!.

      Time saving cheat:
Remove shift knob/boot, remove the curved trim panels only, lift the console lid, and the cup tray will come up. ROLL it off to the side after just disconnecting the heater plugs (leave the main plugged in). This gives you enough access from the top and front to force the E- clip on there. Cheers.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! I have a 2013 Sonata 2.0T limited and just encountered this issue yesterday. Disassembled per this video. Bought a $0.99 rubber cone shaped washer from ACE and reassembled....worked like a charm. Paid forward. Now I’ll have to make a video😁🙏🏻

Fyi, my initial attempt didn’t last long based on the washer I chose. My dad (mechanical engineer) and I brainstormed for a while and shifted the focus off the shift cable loop /shifter pin to keeping the cable rod close to the console….we ended up using a couple zip ties and some vasoline to minimize friction. Keep in mind whatever u replace the busing with has to rotate a bit as the pin travel path is actually a bit of an arc when gearshifter is moved.

@@haveneaton3383 Sorry to hear that. My repair is still hanging in there. I did find a sight that sells the correct bushing for approximately $25-$30 that I will probably purchase if my repair ends up failing. Thanks for the update.

Thank you!! This worked for my 2013 HYUNDAI ELANTRA as well. The shifter was so loose so I figured this has to be there problem.
I watched some videos from CarTunes and Problem Solver Garage to figure out how to take out the center console since it’s different than the sonata. Once I took it apart, I bought the dorman bushing 14055 mentioned in other comments. I used the clear piece that came, and I shaved off one of the lips with a knife to fit it into the cable loop thing. And then fit that piece onto the plastic piece as shown in this video.
Now my car is fixed and I saved so much money! Thank you to the creator of this video and the other commenters!!!

Thanks for the video, the bushing on my 2013 went out the other day...your video provided great detail on not only the disassembly but also how to manually put the car in gear which saved me a tow. I replaced the bushing with a "Dorman Shift Linkage Bushing Kit", model #14055, $11.00 at O'Reilly Auto Parts

Big thank you for this! Took us a couple hours and a $15 bushing which was mentioned above and it’s all fixed! I called Hyundai and said their recall had failed and that I needed the bushing part, their answer was we don’t sell that part only the whole cable for $235! Plus labor 😂 I told them thanks for nothing.

I want to say to anyone that is handy with their hands and have some knowledge about cars or have the ability to repair things. This video is about as accurate as you can get. I want to thank you for posting this video. That repair is exactly what I need to do on my friends car. Once again I want to thank you for such an accurate video.

Great video my friend! This is the best information for this problem very thorough. I'm extremely appreciative. Thank you very much. Please make more video your woth the time.
I followed everything up to the repair part. I found a little better method to replace the broken part. I used a "Hillman 3/8" E-Clip P/N 881397". Best part no drilling it just clips on very strong connection. I pulled on it forcefully and it didn't moved.

I had this problem! Took apart console like you said, only to find out that part was fine! But studying how the shifting works… I went to the passenger side and saw a metal clip not reacting as it should. It went up… but not all the way. I was able to take the cover off and the clip snapped back in place! It worked! I should have taken a pic!

Great video. I have a 2011 hyundai sonata and went to back out of the driveway and when I went to put it into drive it got to the neutral light, that was where it's at but the shifter would move freely through all the gears but not actually taking any of them. So I haven't looked at it yet but I just about bet that it's popped off like yours did. So thank you very much because my first thought was transmission went out or something.

  • @mariodiy4517
    @mariodiy4517 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you so much. I needed an informative video on how to disassemble the center console because my friend spilled coffee and caused a short. It will cause her transmission to shift on it's own as if it was in manual mode. She asked if I can look at it. I will attempt to check the wiring harness for oxidation and use CRC Electrical connection cleaner and hope that fixes it. I did let her know I can't guarantee it would be 100%, if that doesn't fix it, she'll have to have that harness replaced at the dealership.

Hi Ricardo, this is an Awesome video, nonetheless, from watching you moving the whole Compartment Around the Shifter I have realized that you just needed to remove the CUP HOLDER Tray around the Shifter (your video at 9:05 minute) and my question is: Any reason that you opened all screws around the Big Compartment Unit?

  • @remodeledcatidea5324

Avoid all that work and risk of breaking clips and panels.
JUST use a drill to make a 2 inch diameter hole , exactly over the area where that item has to be fixed.
Then when done put a round plastic cover to match the approximate color of that area.
