    • @TheatreofPhil
      @TheatreofPhil 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@sarahmorgenstern2731 Zion is a place name; Jews are a people. So yes, there's a big difference between Jews and Zion. It's a bit like asking whether there's a difference between the Irish and Dublin.
      The problem is that Zionism (a colonialist ideology) has come to dominate modern Judaism in a way it really didn't for much of Jewish history. Even in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, there was a strong Jewish internationalist movement that opposed the idea of Jews moving to Palestine. For internationalist Jews, "Zion" tended to mean not the place as such but a state of holiness.

      The secret to liberation is in defending secular Constitutions wherever they are in place. America is on the verge of being a theocracy and Israel is well beyond that. The place where everyone can practice any faith or lack of faith equally is a secular state, because its core raison d'etre isn't religion.

      Why do people hate anti-semites?

    • @tom-kz9pb
      @tom-kz9pb ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@mudr.krakonoskrakonosovic1827 Because many of the nicest and brightest people in the world are Jewish and because anti-semitism is an artifact based on superficial pretexts that have no basis in reality. Jews have been blamed for one thing and the opposite of thing, showing the absurdity of it all , such as in blaming them both for being Marxists and being greedy bankers, which is the opposite of a Marxist. I not buy either that there is "blame" in Marxism as probably no one has had more genuine concern for exploited workers, a perfectly legitimate cause regardless of results in the attempted pursuit of that cause. The hate has been largely a result of worshipping different unicorns and in the propaganda of wealthy interests that despise Marxism simply because the economic philosophy is a threat to their excessive wealth.
      The Marxism connection at any rate seems largely historical, except maybe for a few such as Daniel Kahn. I say that the struggle is not over, because MarxIsm and communism were never really the story, but just chapters in the story. The real story is that of rich vs poor, which is as old as humanity and unresolved. It will not be resolved until all classes are satisfied with their lot.

    Thank you. This is an admirable lesson of life ! the only word I know in yiddish is "mishiguene". Marie my friend, her father refugee from Poland in France with a family of three, 2 girls and a newborn, was arrested and deported, did not come back. Mother and newborn were hidden in a basement, the two girls find shelter with catholics nuns. After war, Marie had bad relations with her mother who would call her mishiguene all the time. My dad (soldier) was prisoner in Germany five years. I guess the fact he had studied latin, greek and german and as sub-officer made them keep him. People of my generation never understood the silence of witnesses.

On the other hand, even if your kind of believe comes as near to me as any believe can come, I'm still gatekept by the fact that my mother believed differently... don't know whether I'd be a good jew or not, but even if not, I'd think, you folks are at least not overestimating our heavenly father

    I would like to say human, I think it's the real name of what he call jew.
    But human is the worst as well as the best we can do. So I guess we have to choose another word,
    So why not jew even with all the misunderstandings it is likely to cause.

      Jewish diaspora leaves outside of the State of Israel and has been for decades, centuries, millennia.
      But now we wouldn't exist without it?
      Zionism is nationalism and nationalism marginalize, exclude and kill.

      How would there be no Jews without Israel? Are you suggesting there would be a second, successful Holocaust that would kill not just a large Jewish population but the entirety of Jewish people, without having a state to protect themselves? Are you suggesting that with the loss of Israel Jewish people would no longer be authentically Jewish? What about ultra-orthodox highly religious Jews who oppose Israel for religious reasons, or secular Jews who oppose it for moral reasons? I’m not Jewish or Israeli I’m simply trying to understand your perspective better, I apologize if the things I say can be seen as offensive or insensitive, I’m just curious what your viewpoint is as I don’t really hear/see many/any valid reasons for the existence of Israel as a state.
      If your claim that Israel secures the existence of the Jewish people, that would be pretty valid- I have no issues with Jewish people, and I don’t want them to stop existing. However, I don’t think I believe that to be true, as Jewish people have lived before the state of Israel, and they will continue to live after it’s gone.

      Lagolop also, I’m not sure exactly which war crimes the previous commenter was referring to, but a brief google of “Israeli warcrimes” brings up websites talking about murders conducted by Israeli Defence Forces, using excessive and unnecessary violence on civilians who do not pose threat. The actions of Mossad and linked USA-Israel intelligence operations in the Middle East are pretty atrocious in many people’s opinion, as well as people considering the Israeli occupation of Palestine to be invalid, especially when it gets into the issues of the West Bank and settlements. My issues of settler-colonialism with Israel are not unique to that country. I live in Canada, and I have just as many issues with my own country as I do with Israel. I would go as far as to say I would like to see the destruction of the Canadian settler-colonial state; so please don’t perceive my distaste of Israel as something unique to the Jewish state
