very useful , what if it was methanol-ethanol-water system and we need a draw stage to remove ethanol?

hi, if it is ask for plate, do we need to deduct our stages by 1 ? for the reboiler?

thank you so much! But i got confused a bit about total condenser. since its not partial why do we need to count it as theoretical stage? also when we did it, its look like we have conversion larger than 0.95 somewhere in the column.

We are not counting the condenser as a theoretical stage, we are starting at stage 1. We do have our first stage a bit higher than the 0.95 purity desired. Based on taking a side stream out at the composition we reported, the top distillate would likely be a little higher (yd = 0.96-0.97) if each theoretical stage was 100% efficient (which they are not).

when calculating q how does it change to (Vbar -V+F) from L bar - L

      F+L+V^=V+L^ (In = out)
Simply making the overall balance on feed plate)

what is meant by the column is at 1atm..?? doesn't pressure varies with height..??

Sometimes for first pass calculations we assume the column pressure drop is negligible. But yes, typically there is a column pressure drop per tray or packing.

Noooo. This won't do. This implies that concentration of xD is higher than desired. Which can be a bad thing in some situations (azeotrope formation, for example).
Maybe work with partial condensers and condense V to the point of D,xD=0.95 and fully-condense and recycle the rest.
