It definitely helps break the rose tinted Instagram view we have of people that we see seemingly winning everyday. I'd hate to think that I should push myself harder into something genuinely dangerous and either get really hurt or get upset with myself and stop doing it.

Although it may feel like a defeat I would argue that your decision to turn back is actually a massive victory. It’s not worth risking your life/serious injury over a walk that will always be there and can be done in better weather.
Edit: you said all this as I was typing pretty much 👆 you said “it may not be the best video…” but I would argue it’s important, I have no doubt you’re inspiring so many people to attempt some of the adventures you have, it’s important that they see that sometimes conditions can mean even the most experienced will abandon a walk and that’s ok! Great video!

Grace, you say this was not the best video. It may not be the best for seeing you achieve goals but it is worth it's weight in gold for showing a maturity in your decision making. The secret to any experienced fell walker is understanding the terrain and the weather conditions. You made the right decision at that time; knowing when to come down. Mountain Rescue will thank you for it. I'm more concerned to see the other guy near to you pressing on in that extreme wind. Loving your content.

Well done for not pushing on. I did the walk a few years ago and at the top of crag hill in thick fog I got disoriented which is easy to do. I only got myself out of trouble as I had a map, compass and knew how to use both. A scary experience but an amazing walk and one to return to another day.

@@GracesAdventures Pleasure! Please keep up the great work! I did pick up on one thing with this vid, so may I humbly offer one piece of advice? And apologies if you are absolutely on top of this already. But maybe pack some waterproof trousers if it's wet and windy? Wet legs in strong winds are like a massive cold sink for the rest of your body. You can end up getting properly chilled and cold really, really fast, especially if you stop moving. Even a cheap pair of waterproofs will keep you a bit warmer. The rustling might drive you mad though ;)

I've just completed Britain's 100 Favourite walks and had to revisit both Tryfan and Scafell Pike as the conditions beat me first time on both. Makes it even more rewarding when you do eventually complete the walk. Just discovered the channel and love your work. Keep it up.

Awwh Grace, I had a similar experience a few weeks ago in the Lake District. Wanted to do the ridge walk up to Skiddaw but it increasingly became more foggy and windy! It was so desorientating. I ended up turning around when I started to feel that if I wouldn't I'd panic. Only 100 m or so before the summit. It was 100% the right choice and a valuable lesson in boundaries, preferring scrambling over slippery scree, super hot days over foggy cold ones and the effect of wind. When I decided to return I def thought of all the youtubers like you who taught me safety first, know your limits, you need to get down too etc. So very good decision to post!

My friend and I once set off to hike up Crinkle Crags, down in Langdale it was light drizzle but by the time we got half way up, like you we encountered strong winds and heavy rain. Despite our waterproofs, rain was driving up in between the layers and we looked like a pair of drowned rats. After 2 hours of battling against this we decided to abandon the walk and return to the car. A good decision and one I would make again. A week later I was back in the Lake District with my daughter and we climbed Pike O 'Blisco in glorious sunshine wearing only T shirts, it just goes to show that weather conditions can make a huge difference to one's ability to finish a hike sensibly. We'll done for showing the bad as well a the good 👍 ! X

It's a cracking walk in even reasonable weather, but grim when it's bad. Even without the wind, the low cloud would have made it miserable and dangerous. Besides, one of the highlights is when you get to Grassmoor, and take in the views over Buttermere and Crummock Water. This is one of the walks that really shows you how the mountain paths link together the lakes and valleys.
The mountains will still be there is the spring, and the wait will be worth it.

Good effort Grace, and a lovely video despite the conditions.

Yep, you made the right decision, the hills will always be there next time. I find I tend to remember the walks with really crap weather rather then the nice ones🤣

The best hikers always know when to stop. You definitely made the right decision, I am only 4ft 11 and very tiny don't think I coukd have stayed upright in that wind. Awesome video. Hxx

Those winds looked brutal! Right decision to head back. You have plenty more hiking days ahead of you.
I'm nearly 50 but still going strong, Beinn Eighe in Scotland was one of my most recent hikes - amazing scenery that area of Scotland.

It wasn’t a fail it was a good call. Nice video too. It bought back memories of a walk up Cairngorm a few years ago. We were hoping to make Ben Macdui but the wind was so strong we turned back. Need to get back there.

Yes, good choice to turn back. It can get very hairy at times and I've done the same thing. When you do get to do this one again, go clockwise via the miners path through to Sail and beyond. This means you get the marvellous views over to Skiddaw on your descent on the Kinn.

You will see no animal on the ridge, cause they are smart. Best decision - Grace - the pure videos are the best videos cause they show the nature.
