A NEW CASE IN FLORIDA, my 8-year-old cousin. I am a pe-med student and now that this syndrome is running in my family, I wanted to get informed as much as possible. Thanks for the source, answered a lot of my questions!
Interesting! This really gets complicated in OB patients were it melds with eclampsia/pre eclampsia, HELLP , TTP, and acute fatty liver of pregnancy. I would have to say aHUS is generally is postpartum, not helped by delivery, and not neurological as often as TTP. At a community hospital, you've got to think of it firstly, and secondly get FFP going fast as you arrange transfer for plasma exchange!

Luckily, genetic testing does appear to be opening up a path to definitive testing for aHUS.
