Don't underestimate this little guy! Last year in March I bought the DJ2GO2 to see if I "get" DJing... Then went through a DDJ-SB3 and now I'm on a RX, perfecting my 3 and 4-deck mixing, and it all started with this little controller, for me it was worth the money.
Thanks this is one of the better videos on the unit. Especially the “shift” function of the “pad mode” button which is a deal maker for me many other videos do not mention it. I just wish it had two simple filter controls!
Yep! Another 2cm in height along the top and they could run a 3 band EQ using knobs on either side without losing anything and it would still be a perfect fit for the Macbook...sold!
It would be so nice if record box had a controller that worked with its software .Sometimes I like to mix in starbucks in am. The only thing I could find was part mix. Eq’s and works with serato.
I'd ditch all of those dork-pads for six EQ knobs and two real channel faders. That's what you're really going to use, after all. If space is a problem, there were some pretty cool split-body fader controls in the 70s for stereo mixing; maybe they could bring those back.
For just playing around with in your room or on the go, or maybe even doing a smaller set, it seems like a good deal to me. Yeah, it doesn't have the ever important EQ but that's nothing you can't do in VirtualDJ. Not sure about the other software. Overall seems like a good controller to use for fun without breaking the bank.
Just a little note in case someone wants to get another USB cable for this controller. This does not use a micro USB port, it's a MINI USB port, so you'll need to buy that instead.
I'd like to see you guys reviewing the Hercules Starlight controller. It's also a tiny controller for Serato with capacitive jogwheels but it has a bass/filter knob, which could add some EQ capabilities on mixes.
Great review. I have the first version of this controller, I use it to set cue points, and some loops. I wish this was out when I bought mines, I think it came out 1 year after. My main controller is the Numark NS7 iii Have a blessed day, good advice for the new dj’s.
Great review! A controller regardless of its size with no EQs is something of a miss. We understand space and size is of the essence, but at least a single buttons Low/Hi pass filter could solve that problem.
I have the Dj2go2, for a small DJ controller it is amazing , but sometimes some effects should be here like "oh if I low-pass this track this one should merge perfectly " but I don't have low-pass knobs
Key word there dj lite software meaning in order to use good features in the turntable you have to buy a pro license at 399.00 when for 100.00 you can buy the competitor's software and it's supports all dj turn tables it's called cross DJ
Just got one ,use it to prep my sets ,run through new tunes ,set cue points ,when the big stuff is packed away or im away from home ,will taking it as a back up and for lil after party's ,and btw if u have serato pro I've midi mapped a couple of the manual loops buttons to switch on a high pass filter, and one for a echo , it's a capable lil controller 👍🏽👍🏽🔊🔊🙂
Thanks for the helpful overview. I was considering getting one for awhile, but now I am since it's supported by DJay Pro on iOS (as someone has already pointed out). It'll be a great tool for cue point preparation, checking out various mix scenarios, and preparing/recording mixes. +1 on EQing and filtering over the performance pads. I also have Serato, so also good when in need of that. As ever, good job!
@@djar8235 I went out and bought it. Lots of fun very easy to learn. Only problem is I get feedback/static from main out. I tried different aux wires and even put the headphones in the main out and get just static
Thanks, very Informative. I just purchased 1 and I didnt think it had a pitch wheel but I see now it does. I also did not know the pad mode button was the shift key. Thanks Dude.
Thanks for the review Jamie! Your final verdict is spot-on. Honestly speaking, I wouldn't recommend this controller for complete beginners, since the layout is quite unusual and there are a few essential things missing (like the EQs).Plus, the thing is reeeeeally small and operating it right can be a pain in the a** sometimes!
I’m a beginner and thought I could plug in my battery powered portable speaker as well. A lot of these Bluetooth speakers have a delay and latency even when plugged through the 3.5mm jack! Annoying and challenging to DJ w that small delay
I would say seek out the DDJ SB2 since one can use it with Serato, Rekordbox, VDJ, MIXXX, and maybe others I haven't listed. For those desiring new kit to get started on, I would say get the DDJ 400.
In my opinion you should look at the Denon DJ MC4000, its a bit more expensive but its a class above all of these entry level controlers. It has the best build quality, a better soundcard, balanced XLR and booth outputs, and effects and EQ for the microphone.
Returned this and got the starlight. The Starlight is 100x better with the Bass/filter knobs. It can do everything the DJ2go2 touch can do minus load the tracks. Which is fine. I was rooting heavy for Numark on this one but Hercules Starlight wins.
It's frustrating that entry level controllers seem to forgo basic features like EQ knobs, but it makes sense when you realise that companies rely on different levels of equipment to get customers to outgrow a product and then need to buy the next step up! If you buy this to get into DJing, within a couple of months maximum you'll want a different controller to be able to use eq, if you buy the numark party mix then eventually you'll want a better controller for a low pass filter and a proper effects knob. For the non-professional market, you'd make less money by design a product that the customer will use forever without upgrading
Cheaper equipment is always missing a feature or too so that you're never happy with what you have, and you want to fork out hundreds for a decent controller or thousands for new cdjs
You just sold me on this product, thanks for the review. I want something small and portable that i can throw in my backpack whenever I'm out and about. I always want to play music and this is the perfect solution. I was looking into the Traktor Kontrol Z1 and i feel like its way over priced for what it offers.
Is it though? I can't see any point in buying a controller with no EQs or channel faders. Those are two fundamental tools that you need to learn how to use, anything other than basic drop mixing will sound awful with this controller. I know it's cheap, but it lacks so much basic functionality. The DDJ200 or numark party mix would be far better options, they're not exactly the most feature packed units, but the important thing is that they have ALL of the basic elements.
I've just bought one as I can't be bothered lugging decks/vinyl around for the odd party etc, considered Partymix 2 too but this seemed to have what I wanted for less £. Disappointed it doesn't have headphone cue mix knob though, nor does PM2, only the 1, odd decision really. Can make do without the EQs/filters though mostly as I'll be outputting the mix via line in of an A&H mixer, but admittedly that's for the whole mix vs per channel so still a bit of a compromise really...
can you remap the level control knob or cue control in serato pro to say the filter? or eq? would be nice to see a video showing the remapping capabilities of serato pro with this controller. for example can other pad modes be used for example fx triggering
HI! I'm just a beginner and I find this console really useful and exciting! I have a question regarding the Pad Middi in 4th position for effects. Is there a possibility to delete the theme and insert new effects and sounds or is it present in the system and I can't delete them? Could anyone help me?
Does anyone know why my dj2go2 touch won’t work with my evolve 30m’s? It works with the speakers in my room but not when I need them for wedding ceremony. My Hercules starlight works fine with evolves.
@@ron29jen not sure. I upgraded to the Reloop Ready but I still have to run it through the hi-z output, other wise you can’t hear the vocals on tracks.

Depends on what kind of music you’re playing. If you’re doing EDM you should return it and start on the DDJ 200 or 400 if you can afford it, and get familiar with the Rekordbox environment. You’ll want to upgrade to a Nexus system further down the line. If you’re playing a more open format, learn everything there is to learn on Serato DJ Lite, then move up to a medium level controller, like the DDJ SR2 or SX3, or Numark NVII or go all out with a set of turntables and a decent Serato mixer. You’ll also need to get a handle on the Nexus layout when you play clubs because you will encounter it more often than you wish.
You should just save up in my opinion I had a numark mixtrack platinum and I hated it I moved to a pioneer ddj 400 and it's my current controller and I love it! Highly recommend it and it's only about 150$ and its worth every cent

Such a shame you cant control hi/mid/low eq levels, they should have made the "level" knobs clicky selectable ones that do all 3. Would have blown the Starlight out of the water.
its a usb dongle/hub, just gives the computer more space for usb ports like a cable extension which is useful since the highest usb ports a mac has had is 4.
