      Looks like the emoto needs to be a fatty bike to get extra traction. I have a full motorbike license and ride a ktm 300 on the trails so the g12 is a very interesting proposition, maybe even for commuting too.

      Pete is never wrong why wouldn’t anyone interested in EMTB not be interested in this? I have a road bike, single speed, full sus, emtb and an enduro motorbike, one of these would be an amazing addition.
      The erosion thing seems to be a popular topic but I don’t really buy it. I ride legal trails on my enduro motorbike and there is very minimal erosion. Almost all of the erosion comes from the weather, in the UK at least.
      Though I do agree these things wouldn’t be ideal mixing it up with emtb’s on small trails due to speed differentials. Perhaps purpose built trails erode quicker than natural trails as they’re not compacted very much but I couldn’t comment as I’ve not ridden any

      I think there is a sweet spot between the 2 bikes I've got a 1000 watt mid drive and a 500 watt mid drive choose the 500 for the trails limited to 45km and use the 1000 watts for the city 65km

    • @JayGee6996
      @JayGee6996 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Pete is never wrong I don't buy in to it because I have monitored trails as part of a voluntary role I do in the UK and it is a fact that almost of the erosion is because of weather, and these are trails that motorbikes use. There is evidence over last 100 years that clearly shows this so it's not my opinion.

    • @JayGee6996
      @JayGee6996 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Pete is never wrong I don’t think you’re listening but I guess you are just living up to your name. I said the primary factor in erosion is weather, I also stipulated that my opinion is only based on the uk as that’s where I live and the weather here is vastly different.

    Probably depends where you live, but that "e-moto" would require full motorcycle helmet and motorcycle driving license. In Finland where we have this "everyman's right", which allows you ride bicycle on any road (excl. highway ofc.) or any forest trail, no matter who owns it. That motorcycle wouldn't be allowed on most of them and could only be used on very few trail with rest of offroad motorcycles.

Someone who uses a e moto doesn't like to cycle (at least not on that day). There is no motobike or ebike. It simply depends what you want to do.

    As the machine gets heavier, you have to leverage its power, mass and traction more and more to do what you ordinarily do with your own body and mass. It's kind of a steep learning curve.
    Make no mistake, however. A trials rider would make that e-moto go places you wouldn't imagine.

  • @dbmiller5881
    @dbmiller5881 5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    Extremely entertaining! Great video guys. I think which end you're coming from, makes a big difference in your opinion about these machines. Coming from an un-powered mountain bike, its easy to see why you'd gravitate to the e-mtb. However... if you approached this from the perspective of gas-powered dirt bike rider, these "e-motos" offer some truly exciting potential!

    • @avlehtine
      @avlehtine 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I have ridden way more motocross than MTB (now more unpowered MTB), but I still think that these "e-motos" are complete bullshit. Once you go over the "250W" (really closer to 800W peak power) mid-drives, the pedals become pretty much useless. E-bikes are fine for the advantages that are now known to all, i.e. equalize different level people in groups, flatten hills so you can more easily train at the HR levels or speeds you want. The next step from 250W should be the actual electric motorbikes without pedals that KTM, Sur Ron and the like are putting out. The pedals just make these bastard creations more likely to be confused with bicycles and will cause a bad reputation for MTBs when morons go tearing down singletrack (and roads).

Mid mount motor with 52-72v 2000-4000watt motor...Oh also you can build one yourself much cheaper than any decent emtb for retail and use a bike you already own (and can revert back to stock with no damage what so ever within an hour) Building your own ebike if you want something that can go 70km/h easily and climb any hills I feel like custom is the best bet, just like making a PC

    the thing i find most surprising is that the emoto sounds like its using a square wave controller... from a company backed by one like RIMAC thats really surprising, its not like FOC / sine is exotic. and hub motors are pretty crap offroad. that said, guy riding it was clearly trying to make it look like shit. cant push it up a gentle slope without spinning the shit out of it? common man. even with a shit controller it wouldn't be that hard to keep traction.

    This was a rather useless comparison because the g12s has almost slick tires and the bike is made for asphalt and gravel roads. And apparently g12s is very lazy from the start as seen in the video and even the top speed of 70km/h is rather slow (most likely due to no flux weakening) for a 12kw ebike or e-moto as you called it.
    I do appreciate that you actually even made a video about these faster ebikes. But maybe if there ever will be a next time then don't just test the over priced/slow/underpowered/heavy "e-moto" because there are way faster lighter and even cheaper options like Qulbix, Vector, CyklonEbike etc.
    And also what I would have liked to see in this video was more details about the very cool display that the g12s has (and the bike in general). But you didn't show a single shot of it. A slight disappointment on that regard.

    I use it on my downhill bike park often, only get good comments about it. I even take it on jump tracks. YOU NEED TO PEDDLE. The problem is when you have a motor/battery sized to produce significantly more power than pedaling ever could, it becomes dumb to have both. Nobody will be pedaling that e-moto much.
    Whereas an e-bike produces comparable power to pedaling, so it doesn't change what and how you ride so much. My 72 yo Dad has an e-bike and now he can MTB with us again, it's great.

    steve - impressive roll back at 16.31. yeah they got it. great video....although it will have put a nail in the coffin for the e-moto. i can't see any reason for owning one unless you're commuting in and out of the city. a spin-out nightmare. the e-bike has unnecessary features (find my bike), bluetooth and internet. who cares - it's for shredding trails....and if you can't remember where you left it then.....

    If you jump up to either a 500W or 750w e-bike in place of the smaller wattage bike the difference would be even more stacked toward the e-mountain bike and the weight difference would probably be minimal, I have a 750/1500W e-mountain bike which can use either pedal assist or full throttle, and it seems like the best of both world and is legal anywhere in the US at the lower watt setting

  • @karelkramer5488
    @karelkramer5488 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Most of you don't understand that the emoto in this case has a giant, powerful hub motor. The rear wheel weighs as much as a street motorcycle, and the power delivery is sketchy at low speeds with vague response. A powerful mid-drive would be better, but response on all but the best emotos is difficult to control. I'm always embarrassed to be seen on an emoto on bike trails, but I love my gas engine dirt bike and my emtb. I do ride the emtb on dirt bike trails at times, but never get my dirt bike near bike trails. Anybody that thinks a emtb is a "dirt bike" hasn't ridden a dirt bike.

    IMO, the G12 is not an E-Moto, that should be for the likes of the KTM Freeride E or the Alta Electric MX bike, both of these are mountain bikes ( stretching it a bit far with the G12 ), I would have thought in the real world and with a decent rear tyre the G12 would perform better going up than shown by Chris in this video ( maybe he was a little too keen with the throttle ), if I was going to spend this sort of money on an electric bike for off roading, I'd rather have the KTM Freeride E and go green laning. The law in the UK for electric bikes ( pedal assist) is too strict, restrictions should be above 30mph and leave it to the rider to judge their speed.

    12 kw converts to about 16hp

  • @BradleyStuartable

    The additional weight of the E-Moto should be easily compensated for by the significant power increase. If this test had been conducted with riders of equal skill levels, there should be no comparison between the performance of the two bikes. Imagine, running KTM's E-Moto (which is motorcycle based) through the same tests and no E-MTB could possibly compare (keep pace). While the KTM still weighs more than both of these Greyp's combined. The rider of the E-moto bike seemed more interested in spinning his rear tire than utilizing the additional power effectively.

    This is a set up to make the emoto look bad. Steep uphill boulders? Not where i ride. Sold my de-restricted Trek Rail and bought a Stealth B52 . Absolutely love the Stealth. Compare those on some open flow trails. Lighter bike is only better in tight rough technical trails. Open bush trails and fire trails are awesome on the Stealth. (Emoto)
