no sparks when you cut means there is no steel or iron in the key, so the edge wont last that long before it gets dull

It means there is little to no carbon in the metal. You are right about edge retention.

Now I can sharpen a knife, not use the knife for cutting the random cardboard I need to split for some reason. Saw through some heavy duty, quarter inch logs all while enjoying an ice cold beer! Life saving, never leaving home without it!
I have a idea for a project,
What if there was a standard hammer that had a small hole in the center of the head of the hammer, that had a laser pointer deep inside, so it didn't smash into anything
I think "razor sharp" might be a bit of a stretch. The key is mild steel so the edge will not hold. The cutting action with the card board box was a sawing action so of course it worked. The file wouldn't do anything useful because again it is mild steel. The saw might work for about five minutes until it gets dull because again it is mild steel. The screw diver is at a strange angle but it would work. The bottle opener would work. And the split point is a good idea. Kipkay, I think you made this video to show off the vice more than actually making a good tool. I loved your videos (your old ones) but your new videos are lacking in quality.
Interesting key. How did you sharpen the steel scissors using brass? Brass is softer than steel.
I'm guessing just removing burrs. didn't make sense to me either.
A key with bottle opener is not brass. It's steel with nickel coating.

A Swiss army knife is far more practical and useful than this in every way. I'd invest time in making something else that's actually useful.

Uninformed viewers don't understand that he wouldn't be making entertainment videos if he wasn't sponsored. It gives him success too so why is everyone angry? Why isn't anyone angry about the rappers and singers spitting on their fans or purposefully bothering an employee for no reason?
Because this is garbage and he really sells is as "works great" when it doesn't. I like the premise of making stuff with household items, but mostly they're useless junk that doesn't do anything well.

kipkay You used to do better stuff. The laser stuff... The infrared goggles for example. just because they block most of the visible light doesn't mean you can see infrared... The fishing light might not have been the coolest thing in the world but at least it was well constructed.

Considering keys are made of brass, that's a "razor sharp edge" by 3000 B.C. standards.
Not all are made of brass, you can pay extra for a stainless steel one.
Yeah, I realize that but if you have a cnc machine you could cut in the edges and sharpen them with the angle grinder

The key is made of BRASS. Couldn't pick a worse metal to make a tool with.

The key blank is absolutely NOT stainless. There is no key cutting machine that cuts stainless keys.
If it was plated brass the brass would have been exposed when he cut into it.
If the key is not plated brass it is still a soft metal (aluminum is another material that is used for key blanks) of the same toughness as the machines that cut keys have to have soft metal to even cut the key. Thats how they are designed. Again, the key blank is made of metal that is not tool grade. Not even close.
at least the head would have to be fairly hard to open bottles

The problem is that key is brass and therefore relatively soft. You can buy keytools that so similar tasks for a modest price that are made out of much harder steel

You are absolutely correct. And I am unsure why Kip did not mention that in the video. At least the "file" might work since I think the bottle opener section was made of a soft steel.

Kip, your videos inspired me when i was younger to build things and you are part of the reason i build things today, but you have to admit that your videos have gotten a little weak in the past few years. we want to see more complex and interesting projects that can challenge and inspire us to recreate them, not a filed down key. It's up to you.

Important Information!!!!!, this project can be illegal in some places. In Spain it can be considered a "hidden weapon", because have a "blade/edge" but does not look like a knife (depends if the judge/policemen have a good or bad day). So check the laws in your country/estate before carrying this thing outside.

MNSebass Its not really a click bait title. It is still a key. Just not one to open doors with. If you have the stuff to make changes to it, why spend $10-20 for a multitool, when you can make your own for like a dollar.
***** Can you say how exactly? The key is lightweight and fits right on your key chain, so in situations. Just because it isn't a health pack, doesn't mean it wouldn't "save your life"

I understand there is some satisfaction in doing this yourself, but, if you want to save time, search for "utili key" on eBay and you'll find a multifunction key with more features for less than $1 with free shipping.

Full credit for seeing an existing product and improving it. You excel at this! and I appreciate you for that. HOWEVER, there are Hundreds of other devices similar to this on the market, in key or, wallet sized formats etc for surprisingly low prices!. In fact Wal-mart has a Wallet sized card in the camping section, for $1.95 which will do all of this and then some. Swiss tech also has a wonderful survival key for roughly $5 its just a matter of how much effort vs money you want to spend i suppose. Anyhow, thanks for all you do!

I like this concept, but I would say making a few of these as separate tools would, I think, allow you to make each one more robust. I was thinking a separate key knife (with serration) and simple sheath, one screwdriver key, etc. If you already have too many keys to begin with, one with all these features IS a great idea, though.
