I love that Alex thoroughly checks the engine and puts stuff in the cylinders before turning it carefully by hand
Too many people on TH-cam destroy old cars because they throw a battery on it and just let 'er rip, needless to say I don't subscribe to channels that do that.
Alex knows his stuff and he treats old technology with the care it needs.
This is by far and away my favourite car channel.

I think this is the best episode you guys have made. Opening the glove box was quite literally back to the future. And it really does look like you lucked out and found an owner who loved it so much he parked it when he couldn't see enough to drive it, just couldn't let it go... you know he drove that thing carefully. This is a perfect barn find and an iconic piece of both automotive
and cinematic history. I'm envious, I wouldn't ever sell it either.

10 year DeLorean owner here! KJet is a total pain to maintain long term. My recommendation is to do an EFI or Carb conversion eventually. Or a rad engine swap! I installed a 3.5 Ecoboost from a Raptor!

Quick tip. When I'm vacuuming around the engine bay or down around seats and I don't have or can't find my small nozzle adapter, I just place a long skinny funnel over the nozzle and it works great for getting in hard to reach areas.

I really enjoy your channel. But I have to say that this episode really thrilled me. When the engine started idling I think I was as excited as you were. Too cool! A barn find without all the treasures of mouse droppings and eaten wiring harnesses! This will be really cool. I was thinking this would be an awesome LS swap, but seeing that the motor was good, a resto is fully warranted. I can’t wait for the next episodes. Thanks, signed, a 52 year old dude.

In 2005, I was working forna car dealer and I watched a Delorean go through auction... sold for $12,000 + auction fees [The auction was was almost all donated cars from estates, indivuals, etc as tax writeoffs.] it was in good shape, but had tatty interior. It was such a cool car to see in person. And we were all jealous but so happy for the new owner.

It's referred to as toll booth window. For drive thru, you open the door. Power lock motors can fail and you can be locked into the car. We either disable the auto locks or put in a Wings-A-Loft system. Also a current Oct 81 owner. Also, adding a second ground cable helps...

I get excited by the documents, too! I bought a 1941 Packard Model 110 Touring Sedan. When I got into the glove box, the original bill of sale was in there, as was a tire inspection form from during WWII. Since rubber was rationed, you had to prove the tire was worn out. The REALLY cool thing is that the form lists the serial numbers of every one of the original tires. Including the spare. Oh and all the tires passed, no replacements. Also, the wife's Connecticut state ID, a metal plate, listing her birth date in 1878. I can not tell you how cool the owner's manual is.

Man when I got my first car in 2016 I did the same thing. 94 acura legend GS. Had a phone in the center console, I was just like you are in this video. Went through and cleaned everything. 236 hp stock, with a traction control button and bigger brakes than the base model. I was racing everything and I got it at 264k. Changed the engine mounts, brakes, tires and all the fluids. Blew the head gaskets at about 290k and kept topping off the water every 10 miles. Eventually I did a pull from a stop around the corner from my house and as soon I I hit 20mph it sounded like I threw it into park. Put it in nuetral and pushed it home with it still running for power steering purposes and found the entire differential case to be broken in half. Ring gear visible to daylight. The Axle seal was leaking since I had it and I work at a shop so I'd top it off every couple weeks but then this happened. Had a new Axle seal in the door pocket for months. Sold the car for 100 bucks a year later lol. Pick n pull would only give me 63$

35:44 if you look back in the owner's manual in the 'Appearance Care' Section, it says "Wash panels with warm water and low suds detergent. Stains of tar or grease may be removed with gasoline or white mineral spirits." it doesn't say to wash the entire exterior with gasoline, its just for removing heavy contaminants like road tar, grease, and asphalt.

Hey @LegitStreetCars, just wondering... Why don't you use a little water or wd40 to secure any remaining debris around spark plug holes before you open them up? I use it all the time - Works a charm! And helps prevent stuff making its way down in there. Every little bit helps, and it only takes a second! Keep up the amazing work, and congrats on the epic 'barn' find!

This is going to sound made up, but back in 1983 my uncle Kenny Rogers (Not that Kenny Rodgers)hit it big over night by selling software he developed to Microsoft. Long story long he bought a DeLorean and I got to sit in it once as a kid. Not to go dark but we lost him in a hunting "accident" a year later. They hold a special place in my heart, so thank you sir for bringing this one back to life.

The engine was called the PRV engine after the manufacturers you mention. It was in the VOLVO 760 series cars and broke down a lot. I think it actually was a bit more powerful, at least in Europe at 160HP. I drove one of those as a taxi in the early 90s. Was a nice sounding engine but not at all quick 😂 pretty funny they choose it for the DeLorean

  • @fredmeyer1898

The original version of this car was meant to be lower to the ground. John Z had to raise it to comply with US "safety" standards. I'd suggest lowering it down to the originally designed ride height. The PRV engine isn't a bad one, Renault used it in the Alpine and it's a good basis for various mods and turbocharging.

My "tape in the used car" story was in a V8 1986 Mercury Cougar. I talked my buddy into buying it for 200 bucks (it was in really good shape, so it was a steal). We drove it home about 30 minutes from where we bought it. It had an old tape deck, and we were just going through the interior as we drove, as you would when you get something new to you. He opened up the console and inside was a tape. I jokingly said "Probably Michael Bolton's greatest hits". It was. It was Michael Bolton. I don't remember if it was his greatest hits or not. All I know is that it was Michael Bolton.

I just bought a 2006 dodge magnum SXT in January of this year, ran good with 200K miles, paid $1900.00 for it and took the first three days archiving the things I found and seeing what worked. I got the original window sticker, owners manual, everything that came with the original sale. BTW runs like a top 8 months later needs an oil change (my 1st one was 3 months ago) but that's coming. had to replace the windshield and the cigarette lighter doesn't work, but otherwise, couldn't have gotten a better car for the money

ATF has less "detergents" than motor oil, which doesn't really matter since not much detergency action is gonna happen at room temp. W hat you need is solvency, like Marvel Mystery + kero or diesel + penetrating oil. Motorcycle chain lube spray is the grand slam of shop lubes. Anti-corrosives, anti-wear, penetration and even foaming action. Worth a shot next time.

That engine was used in a bunch of European cars including the Renault Espace, basically a minivan. One of the reasons every thought DeLorean had rather missed the "sports car" mark. I can't believe how much they've appreciated in value though! I saw one in a motor museum in the UK years ago, the curator told me they had to use lemon juice to get the fingermarks off!

Just after Marty went back in time and accidentally ran over one of old man Peabody's 2 pine trees he was breading, it altered the order of things to come: When Marty tried to prevent Doc Brown from being shot by the Libyans, as he ran back to the parking lot where he witnessed Doc being shot the second time, the mall sign now read "Lone Pine Mall" instead of Twin Pines Mall.... all because he killed one of the pines by accident. Brilliant!

Might want to look at a Volvo B280F PRV-V6 motor and rail bosch injection to replace. Late 80s. 2.8L 158bhp

Congrats on the new purchase. We have a few of those running around the car shows I go to. Was never a fan of the car mechanically but always thought asthetically they were a pretty car. Hope it meets your expectations long term. Which is to say I am looking forward to the twin Turbo LS that will no doubt end up in it 😂🎉

I know MUCH about proper restoration, one thing to consider YOU DON'T EVER TRY TI Shine IT UP. IF SHINED EILL SHOE SI MANY SCRSOES DENTS SND IMPERFECTIONS you have not noticed. A 3m Scotch Brite green pad, double size works great to gently follow the brushed grain. The dealerships had a spinning machine to rebuff the surface, anyplace you do touch do it gently or you will have to go the entire car and will never look factory again. Please consider using a refrigerator stainless polish and always go with the brushed grain of the car. I didn't mean to leave caps on earlier and an using my phone so didn't want to change. I have done the headliner twice if you have any questions, also there is a cardboard DMC Delorean motor corporation or company, that gives a great embossed logo on the two roof sides. Feel free to ask I have restored 2. And learned lots on the first one. I'm sure Delorean One can help best. I think they own the rights to the Delorean and have all the OEM nos Parts.
