''Ori valai'' is a simple and unique technic used by local fishermen of freshwater small scale fishing near Tiruvarur in Thirutheraipoondi district. The fishing time taken to catch 10 small fishes would be very meager, hardly 2 minutes. it requires a small piece of netted cloth, a lengthy strong stick and four piece of strings. To attract the fish they keep a mixture of paddy husk and cow dung in the middle after placing the net inside the pond.
