Dear Renu, Deceptions, tests, difficulties, illusions are terms that can be used and are often used to simply avoid the effort needed for our progress or to justify the resistance and revolt that something in us may feel towards the Divine. By complaining or getting angry at the Divine we often fail to see and acknowledge the Grace that is also there and leans into the abyss to pull us out of our predicament. The Divine Grace and Help are always there but we refuse to open to Its wonderful action and thereby make things even more difficult than they actually are. Well in a certain sense everything is Divine including the illusions and the distortions of life that we term as evil and terror. But the mistake that we make is to regard the Divine as someone static who either indifferently watches the tragi--comedy of life as it unfolds or else is busy testing us and ticking pass and fail. That may seem so when we look at life in a narrow frame of time and through the distorting lens of the ego and desire. But to another vision equally legitimate one can see all life arranged in an ascending series of manifestation of something Real and True that all the different forms are trying to embody and express. It is this progressive manifestation of the Divine Reality within that is termed as Evolution. We are too busy looking at imperfect forms and partial manifestations to see the perfection that the future holds for us, the perfection that we seen through everything, the seeking for perfection that is inbuilt in human nature and is the cause of its much distress and suffering. yet this suffering that makes us confront the imperfection of earthly life should actually become a feeder to seek further, to soar higher, to spread our wings wider, to enlarge our capacities, to bring into play new qualities so that we may break free from our all too human limits and enter into the vastness of God. But since we remain obstinately stuck to the past therefore we have to undergo the lesson of pain. We can look whichever way we want but that does not change anything on the ground. at some point we must take the pilgrim staff of faith and undertake the journey to find the Truth and see for ourselves whether it is all a[play of deception or of a deep Wisdom and Love that our limited finite mind cannot fathom. Metaphysical discussions have their place but only as a propellant towards the journey rather than delaying it forever since the Divine does not fit into our conceptions of Him. Fine, but what next? Hitlers and ISIS and Chinese dragon to start with, or a materialistic ideology that leaves us nowhere if not much worse as the famous poet Omar Khayyam wrote so poignantly: 'Dust unto dust and under dust to lie...' Well if one is satisfied with this doctrine then so be it. To each his goal, if goal there can be where all is dust and chemicals randomly playing some kind of a ball with our life. As to love, well all that I can say is that without Love creation itself will collapse. Whatever man may have and has made of this most wonderful energy is a different and sad affair. but it is also this energy of love which alone can save humanity and our civilisation and earth and creation itself. If Bliss is the origin of creation then Love is the power that saves it. Affectionately alok bhai
Our senses are ordinarily tuned to receive the gross vibrations from objects. It receives them as sensations. The purpose of the senses is to receive the world contacts. If the senses are crude it receives them as pleasure and pain. As they get refined it receives them as the essential delight of existence. The degree of refinement of our senses depends upon the quality of our consciousness. At the same time if the senses indulge in crude pleasures our consciousness becomes more and more heavy and gross. Refining the senses therefore has to be worked at both the ends. At the level of the senses we have to expose and train, sensitise and discipline them to prefer the subtle over the gross, the refined over the crude, the beautiful over the ugly. Thus the eyes should be trained to see beauty even in a pebble, a flower, colours and all other forms. The ears tuned to hear softer notes, flowing rhythms than loud titillating music. Same way with other senses. Arts such as poetry, painting and music help refine our senses. At the same time the mind and vital should withdraw from pleasure in crude objects and grosser appetites. They should get engaged in and concentrate upon the Divine Presence or the Divine aspects of beauty, peace, light, sweetness, harmony. Through an aspiration for the Divine and contact with Him our consciousness starts getting refined automatically. Calling peace and habituating the senses to peace is a wonderful way to help provide the right matrix for the senses to grow. A mention must be made of the role of speech abd body gestures. Speech and communications through body gestures have an impact upon our consciousness and hence on the senses. This truth was used well in ancient India and hence the word for refinement and culture was deeply connected to the language of communication, that is Sanskrit.
