      I’m not in AllTrails. But the drive is easy to follow, drive 395 then make a left on Whitney Portal Road just like going to Mt Whitney trailhead. For about a couple of miles turn left to Horseshoe Meadow Road and drive the paved road for another 20 miles. When you reach the Horseshoe Meadow area, turn right when you see the sign for Cottonwood Lakes trailhead, a few minutes away. It has walk-in campground and overflow parking too so no worries.

    Really enjoyed this one Robert, you are an excellent filmmaker and storyteller and your energy on the trail is off the hook! I laughed when I heard that jewharp, I used to carry one on my hikes too. I hiked that area about 5 years ago, did cottonwood pass to Soldier lake then crossed new army pass and down to the five lakes. I was only 2 miles from Langley at the top of new army pass but just didn't have enough energy to tackle it. I hope to get back up there this fall and bag Langley before the snow comes, I want to try it as a day hike and do the old army pass like you did. Take care my friend.

      Hilltop Hiker
      Thanks, Jim. I remember passing by that junction to Soldier Lake from the PCT when we did the hike from Cottonwood Pass.. I wanna do that loop as well. I think this 5 lakes area to Langley is a lot better than Whitney Trail. Your right, that 2 miles is still hard work to summit, it looks deceiving but doable. And going up from Old Army is the way to do it, more challenging. Happy trails my friend.

      Hi there, Alan. I remember you and Eric and Nathan as well. I hope you guys are doing okay. I used two different tripods when I go backpacking or hiking. One is the Sirui 3T-35R red color, a table top tripod. On this trip, I brought my newer tripod which is the AOKA KB 20. This one is carbon fiber but only 28” long max. Very light. I think from now on I’ll be using AOKA to lighten up my load.

    How did you manage to keep your eggs from spoiling? You seem to pack light and have everything you need. Thanks for the informative video.

    • @20robertang
      @20robertang  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I bring eggs when backpacking, I make sure not to expose them in the sun and place them inside a container. Most of the time I bring one liter frozen Gatorade as a refrigeration system. Of all the times I brought eggs, I never had an experience of having spoiled so far.
      My full pack usually average around 20’s for an overnight, bear canister not included. It goes heavy if I need to bring lots of water. I have 1.7 lbs pack (HMG Southwest 2400), EE Revelation quilt (25 oz) and REI Flash Air 1 (20 oz) - my three basics.

    I couldn’t tell what you were throwing but I would suggest you get some mini jigs.
