To have someone step in to help would have been so welcome. I can't count the number of times that I wished someone would help me get out. Unfortunately, I lived over 1000 miles from family.

As someone who has been in a similar situation this song hits me alittle differently hear me out I was at a bar one night and had alittle too much to drink so I went outside to get some air to clear my head alittle as I was sitting on the curb I heard someone yelling around the corner of the bar it was a guy yelling at his girlfriend and slapping her now I’m not a big guy maybe 130 lbs but I ran up and just started beating the hell out of him so the cops were called and I waited to see him getting arrested but it was me that got arrested cause it was her that pressed charges on me for sending him to the hospital to get his face looked after now you would think that I would be mad but to tell the truth I would do it all over again
To add to the other comments... he was not a bad man, he was not an evil man... perhaps he grew up in a house of abuse.... as he knew what had happened to her without asking... he was a man who saw a need, saw an evil and acted on that need and evil. He was a man of faith (evidenced by the court scene bridge (Oh Lord have mercy on me was not asked to the court system... it was a plea to God) and visibly evidenced by the cross hanging on his rear view mirror... was his action legal, obviously not based on the trial, was it morally just.... that is up to each individual for you cannot legislate morality... but for every victim of DV, he would be an answered prayer... and for every man... the story forces the question... "what would I do?" I recently picked up on another aspect of the acting...you can see the transfer of 'weight' from the weight on her as a DV victim... to him, as the reality of what he did sank in looking at the body on the floor... she has her weight lifted as she no longer has to live that life... and the weight of the decision he made settles onto his shoulders, heart and mind.

Sadly, nowadays women would call this "Toxic Masculinity". It's all fun and game until you get beat down and there's no one to help. My opinion is they should have pinned a medal on him instead of sending hi to prison, but that's just me, I guess.
I have no argument here, the first time I ever heard this song I asked myself " What would you do if you were in this situation?" Honestly I am pretty sure I would do exactly what he did, no woman deserves what she was going through. You are not a man if you lay hands on a woman.
I’m amazed that no one ever comments on her driving his truck when she leaves the prison. I think it’s a very ironic and neat part of the story. Kinda like she’s still waiting in the truck.
