- Hey guys welcome back to another Scooter How To video. Today I show you guys how to make your Pro Scooter deck Lighter. Speed holes is a super easy and cheep scooter hack to make any deck lighter. about two years ago i made a tutorial on how to drill speed holes but as time has passed, i thought it would be a good idea to make an updated tutorial so you guys can learn with the highest quality possible. after watching this How to, you guys will know how to make your own pro scooter deck even lighter.
Deck cutouts are also referred to as Speed holes. These speed holes really do make your deck feel lighter especially when you tailwhip and catch your tricks.
I get asked all the time, "will my deck break faster..... does this cause cracks...... will my deck banana?"
The metal that runs horizontal is non-structural. Therefore portions of the metal, in the right areas, can be removed without lessening the integrity of the deck. so before you stress snapping your deck, you can rest assured i have been doing this for years and have literally NEVER had an issue.
Disclaimer.....
If the holes were to hit the vertical beams running through the deck, then yes the decks strength would be compromised. so ensure your keep your hole center and away from the vertical deck beams

How big are the holes?
they are 5/8. but i've also gone as big as 3/4

Yes you can, but i always avoid the grind rails. i don't personally like the feeling of grinds that snag on the holes. but if your deck is like the rapture deck and the middle has a little spot that doesn't get grind on then you can usually remove some fro the middle of the deck.

Hey thanks mate! i always recommend a mid size length video. i started out with videos around 2-3 mins. and now i worked my way up to about 8-12 mins.
it's a problem if I drill it through the griptape?
No not at all. If anything that might actually help keep your drillbit from wobbling around as you drilled to your deck. Although it is very possible that you will need to replace your grip tape if it starts peeling up around the holes. Sometimes if there’s too much heat, It can make the grip tape struggle to grip after drilling all the holes. But if you’re just worried about taking the griptape off before doing it, you should be totally fine keep it on

Any thing is possible man! the main thing we look for is riders that ride our parts and show support. after a while of seeing those riders truly enjoying our parts and being good examples for new riders. we look into ways to bring them onto the team.

Is it bad to drill holes in the side of your deck
I would personally not recommend going through the sides.
The metal that runs horizontal is non-structural. So the top and bottoms are ok , but the side beams are structural so it is not a good idea to drill through it.

Definitely give it a go, just make sure you’re not cutting through any of the support beams that run vertically through the deck. You can really remove quite a bit of the material which will definitely be noticeable.
Also I’ll paste what I said in the other comment just incase you haven’t seen it yet. “It definitely does make quite a bit of a difference. It removes about 2/10 of a pound. So for example, our rapture decks are 2.8 pounds. But with the speed holes in them, it brings the deck way down to about 2.6 pounds.
You can definitely feel that when you’re doing whips in the air.”
