  • This episode is dedicated to the 1935 pre-war vehicle, Albion Victor PK114, bodied by Abbotts of Farnham. As a part of the Winchester Heritage Open Days 2022, Friends of King Alfred Buses' Open Air Display took place on Saturday 10 September 2022, and Running Day on Sunday 11 September 2022.
Due to the proclamation of the King Charles III in front of the Winchester guildhall, the Winchester Broadway was closed, and the main operations moved to the St. Catherine's Park and Ride, which works out well too.
Many thanks for all members of Friends of King Alfred Buses, helping to make this video! Special thanks to James Freeman, Henry Pratt, and many more members who involved in recordings of this video.
If you have a story to tell, please let me know...!

So lovely to see the number 12 to East Stratton caught it regularly in the late 1960's.

Wonderful to see (though not hear) the Albion in action. Is there a version of this video without the silly background noise? Either way, congratulations on the restoration and overcoming the fuel problem that kept AAA756 off the road for so long

Sorry for the silly background music, will improve next time. Sitting from the back of AAA756, it is so quiet and comfortable, the microphone couldn't pickup the engine sound though. To hear the engine sound, it will have to be outside the vehicle, next to teh engine. There is another short episode planned for AAA756, but that one is likely to have some voice over, likely no background music.

@@hellowallace Looking forward to that new video! What I meant by "engine sound" is not the engine alone but the combination of engine and gearbox sounds that you get from within the bus, preferably near the front. It was the wonderful sound effects of our petrol-engined 1929-31 Leyland Titans in Reading that sparked my childhood interest in buses.

@Ian Thompson There is one episode in my channel that features a 1956 Leyland Titan PD2, mainly the sound. It was recorded with a special microphone, so the location of sound can clearly identified.
Everytime when I was standing outside of that vehicle (POU494) at its back, it sounds like someone is hiding inside, knocking very hard.
This episode is called "Pure Sound...", try to see if you can hear it (at around 24:00) - please put on the headphones:

It's not just about the buses, you don't have to be a bus driver, conductor in order to like them. I think it is also about the history and memory people may have, with these vehicles. It brings back people's memory when they were on the buses in the past, with their family and friends. It's about bringing people together, in a special way.

Their next running day will be on Sunday 9th October (check details on kingalfredbuses.org.uk), you will be ble to see me there and find out what camera and microphones I am using! (but is that important at all? Buying the latest, unecesary hardware is a trap...I think.)
