As a Corpsman with the Marines I carried a minor surgical instrument set.I fully agree you should not suture a wound in a non sterile environment EVER.

In my car, I have shears, gloves, tape, roller gauze, gauze sponges, abdominal pads, sting relief, CAT tourniquet, SWAT T tourniquet, Israeli bandage, chest seals, CPR molded mouthpiece, and alcohol pads. That’s from memory; there’s more. 99% of the time, you end up helping people who need nothing more than bandaids and alcohol spray. Good to be prepared. Semper Paratus!!
Pluggin wounds LOL!! I'm a retired Nurse Aid (30 years in) and sometimes I would have to take a deep breath, collect my thoughts, and then get in the thick of it. Thanks for posting. I wanted something a little a little more advanced. Going to learn how to do sutures next.
A reminder that even if you don’t know how to use something in your kit, someone around you might. I keep a trauma kit with me when traveling even though I don’t know how to use half of it. But I do it because someone else around me might know how to use it for someone who needs it. My main annual trip has a high medical profession attendance.
Good Stuff! Looking forward to the rest of the series. But I'm thinking that, depending on where one lives, one should double or triple up on the kits. I see one per vehicle plus one for the Home. Why? Tornados, Hurricanes, Wildfires. Ever been through a neighborhood hit by a Twister? Not a pretty sight. And in those events, especially in a Small Town, who is to say that Fire/ EMS is big enough to handle it, or hasn't been hit also? Also, if one builds a Home Kit, it's NOT for Boo Boos, keep out of reach of children, and store it some place that doesn't head off to Kansas with Dorothy in case your Home gets hit. Hope this helps.
Great looking medical kit, I would recommend you take the TQ out of the bag and set it because in a bloody situation its going to be very hard to open that plastic package. Overall realy great layout and supplies. I don't know if you had one, if you did great but I might add a Bag-Valve-Mask (Manuel Pulmanry Ressucitator) and ZIP Stiches are easeir and quicker then sutres. Great video, keep up the good work
I have both a great Kemp first aid bag and a first aid box. They are equally stocked. I thought I would enjoy moving all of my equipment from a box to a bag but what I have found is that stuff gets lost easier in the nooks and crannies of a bag vs. a good, old-fashioned tackle box. And the right type of box is much more resistant to water while giving aid in a downpour. I use a Plano 733 Elite FTO and its great. It contains seceral smaller boxes that would practically need to be submerged to experienced water damage. I still have my bag, but its great to have options depending upon the type of event or terrain you're covering.
I am a strong believer in buying locally. Pharmacies usually have most of this stuff in stock or can order it for you, and a fishing tackle box makes a great container. Equipment is good but knowledge is better, take a good 1st aid course, A caveat - some things have expiration dates. Outdated can work but may not be as effective, and superglue sets up in the tube over time. A few bandannas can come in handy

When I travel, by air, by car, I always have an Israeli bandage with blood stop and tourniquets with me. I have used blood stop on more than one occasion.
One time I realized that I had more medical supplies than the three doctor satellite office to which I was assigned by an HMO. Believe me, having taken months to recover from a injury in the army, you can never have too much in medical supplies on hand.

Pack tampons fastest way I have delt with gsws. I stuck one in myself from a stab wound. I still managed to put the cuffs on before the ambulance ride
Great Video, I would add a Spo2 meter, and a small knife with a strap cuter or a dedicated strap cutter and also a window punch. You can also use dish washing gloves also for those really nasty pickups.

Good video, one comment about my field of expertise:
1- Yes Narcan/Naxolone are for opoids, cocain is not an opoid.
2- The naxolone is a needle, but it must not be squirted into the nose,. It must be injected into the upper arm or the upper leg.
3- You should not keep your Naxolone (and probably neither Narcan, I got the naxolone training only here in Quebec) in a vehicle. Naxolone should not be strored in high temperature and it they use the example of a hot car in summer, a big no-no.

DayinMontreal Naloxone HCI is a medication. Narcan is the brand name and comes ready to use intranasally. Narcan and Naloxone can both be administered intranasally because theyre the same thing. Naloxone HCI (which normally comes in a vial, not a needle) can be administered IM, IN, or IV. Depends on your scope of practice, whethers it is in an auto-injector, etc.
But you are right, Naloxone should not be left in a car to get hot or cold.
What I'm saying is that you can't use the needle to squirt in the nose. The nasal spray yes but the needles shouldn't be squirted into the nose. The naloxone kits with needles are IM only as far as I know. I'm only talking about stuff available to people not working in the medical field.
DayinMontreal almost all Naloxone kits that are available to the public are IN only. They come with the vial of Naloxone, a needleless syringe, an M.A.D. , and most of the time also gloves and CPR mask. Public doesnt know how to correctly administer IM but anyone can figure out how to spray up somones nose with instructions.
But yeah, I understand now that you meant you cant use needle to spray up someones nose. I havent seen any publically available kits with IM needles. Only IN or Autoinjector type.
I live in Quebec, here we have the IM kit with real syringes.
Most people would prefer the nasal spray that is available in Ontario but we are stock with this one.

Do not use latex gloves b/c of allergy of an unknown patient. Great nitrile gloves, however, blue/tan/white are better for sweeps. Black is not recommended.
TacTigger a year late but i was hoping this comment was here. Avoid black gloves because blood doesnt show up hardly at all on them. bright blue and white tan gloves will easily display any blood from injuries you may not know about :)) glad this was here
I can see your very in the know. One thing change get your EMT and other get White glow sticks. I like your a "Scronger" I was one to.

I know a lot of people carry their CPR masks and stop the bleed stuff and I do too. I also carry an AED in my everyday carry bag. I can’t remember the exact statistics but it is like with heart failure, giving CPR alone about 15% chance of saving. CPR plus AED timely increases to 60% chance. Again those are not exact numbers but the use of an AED greatly increases the odds. I would encourage others to invest in one as well.
Great information and overview of the kit. I cherry-picked based on my needs, space and skills for multi day bike packing. Commercial First Aid kits with the band-aids and a couple 4x4 are useless for real emergencies.
I have almost this exact kit. I am also a first responder, trained and certified by the AHA. My life motto..." always be prepared!"

Pretty comprehensive presentation. I have found a major error that I have not seen anyone else mention. There is a major step between when you roll up , call 911, and check patient. That is to carefully assess the situation and the scene. Is it safe to proceed? You do not want to be another victim who needs saving because you rushed in. That is pretty much number one rule as a first responder!
I do not mix my everyday bandaids and meds with major kit. Situation is either emergency or non emergency. No reason to have all that useless non-emergency stuff in emergency situations. I keep stuff to deal with bigger cuts, burns, fractures, trauma wounds, in the kits but a bit separated for easy finding. For most extremity wounds I use the gauze pads and cohesive tape most of the time. If major then z fold quikclot packed in more zfold on top then pressure dressing. By the way petroleum gauze is not going to be used for the most part like you said for initial treatment. It is more used when wounds are healing after treatment at hospital. Now they can be used instead of chest seals on sucking chest wound.

Try getting some compressed gauze from North American Rescue. You can use to stuff a wound like a gunshot wound.
Use a tampon
Get vaseline in a tube, that way you won't ever have a mess from it leaking out of the jar when it gets warm/hot.

I agree TRAINING, TRAINING, TRAINING but never think that you will have a brain fart or just plain self doubt when SHTF come. I know, it happened to me when it was my father.
opa's are a basic life support skill but they do stimulate the gag reflex hence vomit cannon
7 loving if they start to gag its a contraindication and should go to a npa
Proper sizing of an OPA or NPA significantly reduces the possibility to stimulate the gag reflex. OPA's and NPA's must be sized to the patient. Just carrying 1 OPA and 1 NPA is not sufficient.

U r probably very busy, but please consider making a list of the items in your kit so I can duplicate it
Stock your kit based on the level of your training. Carrying beyond that is a matter of the application of the kit, ie, if you are on a bike you are limited to what you can carry when contrasted with what you can carry much more in a car or truck.
A (airway) B (breathing) C (circulation) s are (in my opinion) CRUCIAL! After that, more advanced trained personal can "take over".
HOWEVER, (in my opinion) it should be AREA - ensure that the scene of the emergency is safe to approach (secure the area), BREATHING - yup, got to ensure all injured can breath without difficulty, and CIRCULATION - don't want to have another bleed out.
TRIAGE IS FIRST AND FOREMOST!!! Again, these only the thoughts of another and you should always follow what you have been trained.

It also can cause cancer according the The State Of California. Do you know HOW MUCH vaseline (in an enclosed, nearly-airtight space at that) is needed to cause an explosion serious enough to injure someone, even minorly?
