These are good videos, other parrot owners are always shocked and worried when I say my birds don't eat pellets. Mainly due to even the best ones to have ingredients I do not want to feed them a lot and have less of those I do want to feed them. I'm gonna start sending them your videos🤣 I'm tired of explaining that pet food companies do not own a guarded secret what keeps pets alive (honestly ready made foods for pets are never better than real food altho they are not all bad at all) but they actually eat real foods in nature😅 I learned to sprout for about 2 months continuousky failing in it, learned from Sophies videos I think. I almost gave up but wanted to succees for my feathered children!
I’m glad you didn’t give up! It’s worth it in the long run and common sense when you think about it! I often have to remind myself that the majority of people still believe all seed is the way to go and more still that only pellets is fine. It’s easy to buy into the marketing if yo don’t know better, especially if it’s reinforced by some vets who don’t have nutrition training or by people sponsored by brands online!
@@TheParrotTeacher honestly as someone who has a lot of dofferemd animals from reptiles to horses, vets are sadly most often very uneducated on nutrition for birds and mammals especially. Understandable on the view that it is not included on their training but if we are capable to educate ourselves It would be good for them to do that too. I have made meal plans for dogs and cats a lot who have had issues with digestional health due to vets recommending a lot of differend kibbles. Vets have that status of being the very top of knowing what animals need. It would be benefitical for them and their customers to learn nutrition on atleast basic level to be able to help their patients better in allround health. Food is afterall so crusial part of health for all animals us too! If we eat poorly we see it in our allround well being quite fast.
Literally was in the kitchen and about to soak some goodies for my girl's breakfast in the morning and saw this perfectly timed video on first thing on my feed! Thank you!
Cool video David, this video really makes it easy to understand the process of soaking and the amount of time for each item. It’s clear enough for anyone that wants to give it a try without feeling overwhelmed. I also like the idea of making your own mix to make it the process faster. Amazing content 👍🏻
Fantastic guide! I always thought the lentils would need to sprout before they can be mixed into their breakfast. I be now annoying them with soaked. Mega variety here we come (to the dismay of the Budgie Girls)
Thanks David, I’ve been doing a few of these as per Sophie’s old soaking mix video but love this list too with the times, now saved in my phone notes! I’m guessing the spelt is the grain not flakes (?) and also I have rye grain and guess that’s same 8-12 hrs ? I’ve found rye to remain a bit hard after - also glad about skipping the ACV as I always wonder if I’ve rinsed it enough when used 😅
Those can go a bit funny in consistency which many parrots dislike if soaked for longer! If you decide to try quality check them thoroughly before serving!
My conure loves soaked seeds! You’ve given me some new ideas for leveling up our soaking regimen! Is there a recommended daily quantity of these soaked seeds for a conure ?
It’s in the video I’m afraid I don’t have time to write them all out again! If you want a quick guide to all things nutrition go on my Amazon store and pick up parrots healthy dining go raw by Karmen budai! She has lots of references!
A great starting point for anyone new to soaking and sprouting! 🌱
Totally! Thanks for helping me film it!

It’s very true! I really wish more vets especially related to parrots got more balanced nutrition education! But it’s a low priority
Really like this content i love anything food related for our birds i will probably look making a soaking mix with this
Sounds good!
Great video....saved and taking notes 😊 Thank you David
Glad it was helpful!
Love your content! It has helped a lot with my cockatiel.
Great to hear! And so happy it’s been useful!
I never knew I could do this
It’s ultra easy and great to improve our parrots diet!
This is great! I never thought of half of these. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!

Glad it popped up with the right timing!
My birds loves sprouted seeds.
Great video, thank you. 🎉😊
You are so welcome!
Excellent, thanks! I’ve been meaning to do this for aaaaaaages!
Hope you find it useful!
Buenos tip
Thank you!
Great video, think I'll have a go at doing this tonight and try them in the chop in the morning
Awesome!

Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the kind words !

Hopefully they will like them just as much soaked! I know Chip prefers his soaked rather than sprouted!

That’s right about the spelt and yes 8-12 is the usual for it!
What would be the problem with soaking quinoa and buckwheat longer? For 12 hrs or possibly sprouts after that

Thanks for the video! How long can seeds be kept in the fridge after soaking?
Not ages! Better to make fresh in small batches! Couple of days max!
My conure loves soaked seeds! You’ve given me some new ideas for leveling up our soaking regimen!
Is there a recommended daily quantity of these soaked seeds for a conure ?
I wouldn’t say there’s a defined quantity! Just mix them in to the daily portioning and variety of snacks!
Do you have these listed with times somewhere please?

Is pearl barley the same as pot barley? Im just soaking lentils and I've got pearl barley 🤔
It is not the same! It’s missing some of the elements/goodness!
Ah ok, but it won't hurt them will it?
Probably best avoided!
@@TheParrotTeacher thank you 😊
The little guy at the :55 mark is listening intently and gets distracted by the hand gesturing.
Always watching!
I tried this. My birds turned her nose up at it. Wouldn't go near the plate
Takes more than one try usually!
