A fuel gauge appeared on the 1962 cars. Prior to that there was only a reserve tap near the driver's foot so when it ran out, you could flip it on. I used mine on a '59 countless times. The engine was clapped out when I got it in '68, so the following year I bought a factory replacement complete with carb, dynamo, ignition and clutch for 100GBP and put it in myself. Over the next 5 years I added 40K miles before a woman, who apparently got worked up watching Last Tango in Paris, did a U turn from parked with no lights right in front of me and demolished the front of the car.

Very pretty car! Is that really an original 1100cc engine?

Originally it would have been an 1192cc (36hp) engine. It now has a 1679cc engine. A lot more pep.

Not stock intake or exaust. Has it been converted to 12 volt ?

The car has a 1600 based 1679cc single port with Engle 100 cam, Zenith carb and it’s still 6volt electrical.

It's a mutation. Besides the Exhaust System, Wheels and Bumpers, the Engine is not a VW but it looks like a Porsche 356 from the 60's. When people build Resto-Mods or complete Restorations, it is impossible to know how far they are from O.E.M. examples. Too many believe their up grades and modifications are important or valuable. They're Not !

Everyone is entitled to opinions. It’s my car and I like it. Thats all that really matters. But thank you for your opinion.

In years past I met with several motorists that believed their Ford Pinto was a great car or that they were cute ? They were total garbage and ugly. Opinions are always subjective however, to formulate an opinion on anything without factual information or technical expertise is stupid and does not merit any respect. Historical Proofs illustrated millions of Germans that loved Hitler and embraced Nazi Ideology. Would you have accepted their pathetic choices and beliefs ? With my automotive technical education and Mechanical Experience I can state the following facts about VW Beetles.
The Peoples' Car Folkswagen was inspired by Nazi Ideology. Technically it was designed as a cheap local commuter car. As a Rear Engine vehicle it was a death trap in any type of severe Front End collision with a high velocity impact i.e. Car, Truck, Tree, etc. The Engine would last on average for 40K without a complete overhaul. With the Air Cooled Design, it was flawed and caused the #3 Cylinder Piston to melt from inadequate cooling. In hot climates while stuck in traffic on some highway or secondary road, this junk's engine would experience excessive heat contributing to its short life. I believe you get my point. Good Luck
