What happened in 1959 is that Egypt officially annexed the territory as part of the establishment of the UAR. 2) At 5:35 - you mentioned the charter of Hamas called to eradicate Israel and liberate Palestine. That's obviously correct, but that's the part that is in line with the historical PLO position (that was indeed changing at the time). What sets the 1988 Hamas Charter apart is the call for the creation of a Sharia state (with some hinting towards a global State of Islam) and that it outlines the struggle as a struggle against Jews, rather than just Israeli/Zionist Jews (though it does blame Zionists for alcoholism, drug abuse and all sorts of other fun stuff). 3) In the photo on 7:55 - worth mentioning Khaled Mashal is also present in it, he might be an even more prominent member of Hamas. 4) At 15:25 - It somehow became a common claim that Fatah candidates received more votes and lost the election because of the system, but that's not correct. While the district system did benefit Hamas (and allowed it a majority of representatives with only a plurality of the vote) - Hamas candidates received 44.5% of the vote, while Fatah only received 41.5%. 5) At 17:42 - while the change in the charter allows for creating a state in the 1967 borders (with full "right of return" of Palestinians into Israel, BTW), it does so only as a stepping stone and recommits to never recognizing Israel and to maintaining the claim for a Palestinian country "from the river to the sea" even after it is created. You are wrong in only 3 things: 1- from the river to the sea wasn’t belong to the British mandate, it was illegally occupied by Britain. And the Palestinians resisted the British occupation. 2- in 2007, Fath security leaders ruling gaza refused to let hamas rule gaza security. And they were prepared to do a military coup against hamas government but hamas stands up against that and it kicked them out. 3- according to the international law : every people under occupation has the right to resist. In 7/10: 723 idf and police and paramilitary personnels, and 375 were civilians. 7/10 isn’t a terror attack, it’s a resistance operation that resulted military losses more than civilian losses. It’s a military operation that impacted also “civilians” who were involved in israeli occupation army service for at least 2 years
The shift from using words like occupation and resistance at the beginning of the video to calling them an extremist terrorist group is interesting. At what point exactly was the occupation legitimized?

He (I'm sure inadvertently) mislead about the new charter. It in no way recognises Israel. All it does is "settle" for a two phased takeover of the land, first with a state in the West Bank and Gaza, followed by a takeover of the rest of the land. This is in contrast to the previous stance of taking all the land at once.
Good, then you will support the return of the land throughout. The aaron mushroom world. The Jews were kicked out of. More Jews were kicked out of the Arab and Muslim world then Palestinians were in Palestine. Also, there were Jews living in what is called Palestine 500 years before Islam even existed. The Arabs were colonizers. The Romans change the name to Palestine to punish the Jews. Palestine is a colonial name.
@@DirtyGuerrilla That's what people are failing to understand about this conflict and why it's been going on for so long. The hard line Palestinians (whatever percentage of the whole group that is) have no intention of settling for a long term solution that involves Israel still existing as a state. The conflict has been going on for so long because the Palestinians can't defeat Israel in an actual open war, but Israel hasn't been able to just take the remaining land by force and kick them out because of the impact it would have on international relations. So they're stuck in an endless battle until the vast majority of Palestinians give up and decide it's not worth fighting about anymore, and settle for some other solution that still involves Israel controlling most of the land. Personally I think the sooner that happens, the sooner their suffering will end and their overall quality of life will improve. At some point getting "your" land back isn't worth generations of suffering and fighting an endless losing battle against a superior force.
There’s little hope for them. They are defenseless in between a bloody holy war. And they say religion doesn’t take lives lol just look at what we have right in front of our eyes.

When the Palestinians in Gaza have been given every opportunity to be peaceful and prosperous without violence they throw it away and blame the US and especially Israel. They didn't start out that way so they might not need land the way you think they do. Their power comes from people, mainly poor people as that's who they started out as a service NGO on behalf of. One of the bitter lessons Egyptians were forced to learn during Mohammed Morsi's abortive term as Egyptian President is that "Islam is (not) the answer" ("IITA" is the official slogan of the Muslim Brotherhood). Ain't noone ever prayed a loaf of bread into existence. That's part of why the MB's lost Egypt as a friendly home; they forgot the people who put them in power, that in 2011 alot of poor Egyptians were starving while their President was worrying & making speeches about their government 'not being Muslim enough'. A single point. The Mandate for Palestine specifically included all of what is now Israel and Jordan. In 1922, British partitioned the "Transjordan area of Palestine" (literally, meaning "the part of Palestine across the Jordan") and assigned its administration to the son of Hassan bin Ali -- Abdullah I who named himself as Emir. Jordan did not become "Jordan" until 1948, when it was released from the Mandate.

1- from the river to the sea wasn’t belong to the British mandate, it was illegally occupied by Britain.
Occupation doesn't justify extremists, and committing terrorism🤷♀️
occupation also can not be dealt with by nonsense such as "peace talks". if you oppress people, they're gonna fight back, rightfully so. @@LiloowPillow
@@LiloowPillow it sure as hell does
@@LiloowPillow when you're an occupier, you'd call any resistance, rebellion, radicals, extremist, terrorism
Does it not depend on from which point of view you look at it? If you believe that an occupation is unjustified then it's a resistance, bur if you believe it to be justified then it's just terrorism.
Fascinating video, I’d love to see you do one on the terrorist origins of the IDF and the Colonial state of Israel next
Great stuff Cappy! Your videos are more informational and comprehensive than most mainstream news sources!
I think that Task and Purpose is turning into one of the best current affairs sites/shows around well done. More of this and less current affairs pushing an own agenda.
I still like the updates on the military hardware though. I started watching with the coverage of the selection for what would become xm5/xm7, and still curious if there's been any updates on the front besides the name change.
Totally agree @simonarmitage2591
The fact that Cappy discussed the new charter is an indicator to me that he does not have much time for irredentist ideations of either side. Bravo.
@@jedimmj11sounds good to me. If somebody forcibly took my land, I’m not going to let them keep half when I forcibly take it back
Good, then you will support the return of the land throughout.

Funny thing is how westerners, some jews, and even arabs interpret helping Mujama as “blowback” as if it was some nefarious plot. Damned if you help and damned if you don’t.
Can you elaborate? I feel like you're making an interesting point, but I don't have enough context to understand exactly what you're trying to say.
like any other group that was colonized you have to fight to take back what was stolen
When the Palestinians in Gaza have been given every opportunity to be peaceful and prosperous without violence they throw it away and blame the US and especially Israel. They have bit the hands that feed them when needed most. Which is a major component of why NO other Muslim Nation other than Iran supports Gaza and Hamas. Not even Egypt, Jordan, or Lebanon. Let them endure what they asked for and deal with the consequences.
Mujama, founded by a guy from Muslim brotherhood, who used charity as a cover to stockpile weapons and spread his Islamic influence?
@@igelbeatz I might be wrong but I believe what he's trying to say is, if they wouldn't had helped this NGO they would be seen as tyrants, and because they allowed it (unknowngly knowing how it's funded and the dark objectives it had) it's seen as a "conspiracy" that they did it on purpose.
Even though your video lacks some information, you still explained the origins and issue of Hamas a lot better than other people.

1. he said about 1948 war but you didnt tell why it happened? Answer:: Because Israel Started killing those Palestinians who gave them refuge when the whole world kicked them out.
2. Sheikh Ahmed Yasin was repressed by Egyptians in Gaza prior to 1967 !
3.Israel Encouraged Hamas to Fight and have military Wing to Create Divide and Rule the occupied Palestine because they wanted to lower the power of PLO (Secular Political Party) & Yasir Arafat Fatah Party. and These are words said by American former Republican Congressmen Ron Paul on the floor of the house. and even yasir arfat said the same " Hamas is a Creature of israel, And Even Israel Former Prime minister Yitzek Rabin., Even Brigadier General Yitzhak Segev of israel army accepted that israel Granted hamas Funds and even israel had a budget for that.

the video was pretty good, missed some key information such as the specifics of how Abbas became PM after him and the new guard where favored over the old guard loyal to Arafat and where pushed by the Bush admin and the details of the inner and outer Hamas government aswell as the impact of 9/11 on the US policy in the region but over all best summary you will find on TH-cam. Thank you for sharing your research. All grounds were covered and backed by facts. Keep up the great work!
Great overview of the history of Hamas but one thing I will point out is that Hamas separated from the muslim brotherhood in 2017 and ended their ties with them. That was because they didn't want trouble with the Egyptian government that views the muslim brotherhood as a terrorist organization.
This also made The Houthis allies, even if they were enemies before 2017
interesting. I always thought Hamas still considered itself as a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood.

It's brave for Cappy call the Israeli occupation an "occupation".
As an israeli, that is simply the term. It's not a negative term, it simply means living there.

it is also wrong since Israel cannot occupy its own land.

I'm all for the Jewish community. But I must say, how the land was split was the most stupidest way anyone could have thought about.
yea the british kind of did that with every where they touched
The British also purposely assisted in establishing Israel as a means to extend their colonial power and influence within the region against rising Arab independence then try to backtrack a little when things got out of control from both Jews and Arabs by trying to sink Jewish immigrants. At the end of the day, the Brits just said, "fudge it" and left with most of their unguarded and abandoned military inventory going to Israel.
"Jewish community" as Ilan Pappe once said: "Most Zionists don't believe God exists, but they believe he promised him Palestine", buddy those are Zionists, not Jews. They use Judaism to justify a land which isn't theres. Heck, most of them are European by descent compared to the Palestinians who are actually more related to the original hebrews.

The more I hear of this, the more it tells me just how tenuous the whole organization of the Muslim Brotherhood is when they need land to continue their practoces. It's almost like no one else wants their crap.
To earn back their reputation they don't need land. They need people.
