This just warms my heart as an adult with Cerebral Palsy so glad to see people with disabilities be represented in the arts

My son was born with that same condition, he was 2 months prematured, couldn't lift his head at 2 years old, couldn't walk, but we took him to ride horses without the saddle and the horse shoulder stimulated his inner leg muscles and that did the trick, he still needed surgeries to strecht his calves muscles because his growht hormones werent working correctly, the bones were growing faster than the muscles. he couldn't plant his feet flat on the ground so for 5 years we took him to ride horses until he starte to walk better, really walk, also took him to physical therapy & occupational therapy (PT-OT) for all those years, that's what the doctor told us, from year one to 5 is the only chance we had to correct some of his problems, but it was the horse riding without saddle that really work the miracle. I hope these parents know about that.

I have Cerebral Palsy. This doesn't "help" handicapped people.
In the 5th grade, I tried out for the part of Jacob Marley in our school Christmas play. I never had a snowball's chance for the part because I was immediately typecast as Tiny Tim and never even got a shot to read the Marley role. I played Tiny Tim. Hundreds of people cried during my performance.
My thoughts on the role and the experience?
    It sucked.
Why? Because far too many people assume that handicapped people are one-dimensional Tiny Tim / Forrest Gump types. We are happy, simple-minded grinning idiots who give "normal people" an opportunity to feel good about themselves when they "help" us.
I've been fighting the Tiny Tim stereotype for 35+ years. I absolutely loathe it.
At my core, I'm unabashedly ruthless. I can be cold and unfeeling... And I like it that way. It never occurs to most people that someone that walks like Tiny Tim might be ruthless. It never occurs to most that someone that walks like Tiny Tim might be a sweet-talking Romeo who's done just fine with the ladies. It never occurs to most that someone that walks like Tiny Tim might be a muscle-bound fighter whose mouth waters at the thought of aggression. Were it not for my Christianity, I have zero doubt that I would make Ebeneezer Scrooge look like Mister Rogers.
Do me a favor. When you see that guy pushing carts at the grocery store - remember that he has passions and hang-ups just like you. We are just as capable of being villains as we are "heroes". Giving us that multi-faceted dimensionality is the kindest thing you can do for us.

This is so amazing. I have played Scrooge before in the original play version Dickens script. We sadly did not have a tiny Tim
