Just watched your video and did my first platinum melt. Haven't made anything with it yet but I was able to roll out to 0.8mm sheet and it looks very healthy. Many thanks for sharing.
Nice video. Will be using a graphite cap from now on. If you tip your steel firetongs with platinum, you won't contaminate your melts. A bigger torch is recommended. Once melted a platinum ingot with a Smith's torch. The torch got so hot it melted the solder and blew the copper tip into the platinum..... wasn't a good day.
Hi love the video what is your crucible called I’ve tried searching online but it comes up with the cup type not the block type you’re using plus you mention not to use steel tweezers so what’s the ones that you used thanks. Hib
Ok ok. Excuse my language but platinum is a bitch to melt! I finally succeeded in getting mines melted today, but I don’t think the ruthenium has fully alloyed with the entire ounce. Had I not watched your video last night, I would’ve been freaking out bout trying to get it out the crucible, but like you said, it contracted. I ended up with a little of the Wesgo crucible stuck onto the metal. Ima just file that off though or do like you did. I tried melting the platinum about a month ago and the shit wouldn’t melt for nothing. So, I’m happy to see that I atleast got it to melt today. You make it look so easy to melt. After I use these three ounces, I’m sooo done with platinum. I’ll stick with the easier to melt and pour gold.
Hello, how much bari pressure I need to set up on oxy regulator to obtain necessary degrees for platinum melting? I use propane and oxy and a smith torch with oxy head. Thanks!
there are acids you can test with but we use a well established reputable supplier. You can also test with an XRF machine but not many people use those.
Hello! Many thanks for the video. I have exactly the same equipment and somehow I haven't managed to melt any quantity of platinum. Using a very similar surface as you. I thinks it might have to do with the potential I have set my gas and oxygen with. Do you think that might be the case?
Tip size is a must! Size 7 tip or the larger melting tip and hitting it full blast. If you haven't done it before you have to blast it with all the smith torch has but it will melt. Side not before you start clean your melting station so nothing can light up and if you are worried pull out. When your not confident that's when mistakes happen.
What type of torch are you using? From what I can gather oxy acetylene is too dirty do a flame considering any carbon messes up platinum and other pgms.
Do you know anything about platinum recycle. com ? because I sent them my findings and they wouldn't offer me anything? I did all test's myself and it passed to be platinum. Hydrogen peroxide test passed, acid test passed, heat test passed. and It is also non magnetic material. The only they told me was they didn't know what it is and couldn't determine to value it. So I asked her if she could at least tell me what metal it was and all she said was they assumed it was just some type of natural formed metal rocks? lol have you ever heard of such a thing?
@@refraction_manufacturing6193 hey, actually I was trying something similar with copper and kitchen torch with butane. Could make the metal flow. Do you know the difference between Smith torch and the kitchen torch or what I could be doing wrong ?
@@swaroopcool22 kitchen touch for cooking will a much softer and lower temperate flame. If your working with platinum I highly recommend updating your melting torch 👌

Great thanks for the feedback mate!

Fabulous, I'm teaching myself to work with platinum, and these hints are wonderful. Thanks
Your welcome, will be making more videos in the next month and will upload more tips soon :)
#howtoplatinum on Instagram 👌 post a lot more there.

Genial el vídeo! Jamás imaginé que se podría fundir platino con el Little Torch.
Que aleación de platino utilizas en este caso. Saludos desde Chile.

Hi! So…the loud popping noises that I just had when melting an I got…is that the air bubbles exploding?🤨
What torch are you using methane, propane? Small torch can melt the platium?

35ish psi or just under 200 kpa is what we have ours set to.
How do you know what metals are pure platinum?

What torch did you use? Smith’s Little torch?
Yes just a smith torch
Thank you so much for this video. Any chance you can demonstrate cleaning and smelting platinum filings? 🫣🙏🏼🤗

is there a loss of platinum when you melt it?
Shouldn't you use hydrogen / oxygen flame rather than hydrocarbon has?
Good video, but the subtitles said to have food in Okeechobee when you said to have good melting goggles. 2:34
Haha thanks for the feedback mate, I'll have to look into that.
Nice piece.
I have this two rocks that look like platinum can you tell me if it is or not
Take them into a local jeweller and they should be able to test them for you.

YBS Entertainment we use a Smith torch and a few different heads.
I meant what type of fuel are you using? Hydrogen? Oxy propane?
LPG and Oxy
Refraction_Manufacturing what head are you using to melt platinum with the smith’s little torch?

Hey Jimmy, no never heard of them. Best to have it tested by the person who is going to buy it and have the deal locked in on the day.
Isn't all metal found in rocks. Besides aluminum which what we have is mostly man-made via electrolysis from bauxite.
What is the cap made out of?
This one is made from Graphite and was made by cibel facebook.com/cibelgraphite/
Thank you so much for this video. Any chance you can demonstrate cleaning & smelting filings?🙏🏼🫣🤗
