      Bill Smith Duh, it's implied they had a long conversation before he left again. The movie is not focused in that at the moment it's focused in closing the theme of Murph and Cooper, and how he finally fulfilled his promise. I'm sure he knows his son is dead, as is their kid's grandpa (he wasn't his father).
      His daughter's family doesn't mean anything to him. They don't know him, and the fact that he is the father of Murph, who is dying, is very trippy. It's almost like he is a ghost. People don't process that easily

They said "they" created it and realized "they" are not an alien species but beings that mankind will eventually evolve to in millions of years. I really liked that idea. Why has no one realised that the paradoxes in the film were intentional? They were there to make a point about how fifth dimensional space can take advantage of time in a manner that would appear paradoxical in a dimension where time is linear.
    Secondly, 'love' isn't exactly the factor that allowed Cooper to communicate through dimensions, it was gravity, as explained by the dust pile scene near the beginning of the film and how it lead them to Nasa's hideout.
    The film uses metaphors integrated with actual scientific theory to be poetic, otherwise it would just be a documentary.

Bring humanity here, no need to land, just stay in low orbit for a couple months, then go back to Earth, where nature will have fixed herself like she always does since 10 000 years will have passed. "From the director who apparently gets a lifetime pass cause he made The Dark Knight."
    It's a shame, cause I don't think Nolan ever asked for this kind of attention! You got people obsessing over him like he's the next Kubrick, and then you got people that simply think "his movies suck! He's so overrated" just cause they see his films through this lens of cynicism for the sheer fact that there ARE people obsessing over him like he's the next Kubrick!! You follow me?
    Like, his movies are totally fine! I'd even say there all great! They're character-focused features that, in my opinion, do a great job making me care about the protagonist's journey! Are they perfect? No! (Cept Memento) But he's good at his job at creating worlds and stories an audience member wants to explore. That's all he's trying to do! He doesn't go into a project saying, "How am I gonna get them to love me this time?!"
    So, in the future, don't put down someone that doesn't like what you like cause you think they 'didn't get it', and don't allow yourself to not enjoy a film cause some people think the Messiah made it. I mean come on! There are bigger problems in our world! For example, some people defend the Star Wars Prequels cause "all true fans like ALL the Star Wars films!" FUCK THOSE GUYS!!

    There really wasn't a lot of physics in the film, people who say they understand the movie suggesting they are really smart or something don't know what they're talking about. Much of the film was visual, inspired by actual physical principles but nowhere in the film was it dedicated entirety to "physics" or "science". We all know what a wormhole is, we all know what a black hole is, we all know what gravity is. There wasn't anything to understand that only "smart" people understood. If it was a bad movie, it had nothing to do understanding, only taste. I really liked this movie because I thought it was really good, not because it made me feel like a jeenyus.

      @leedoyeon 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      *****
      The characters even say as much that that's not possible (about artificially creating wormhole and sustaining it), but I was okay with that, because they were simply conjecturing the existence of a sufficiently advanced civilization that could do that, without blatantly violating known laws of the universe... unlike the way Gravity threw Newton's laws out the window.

      I don't think it was ever meant to teach us anything new about black holes, but I think the black hole in the movie was supposed to be the most accurate visual model of black hole ever made yet.

      The best part is that there was very complex physics put to the audience in a way that seems simple. The fifth dimension sequences and the gravity formula have roots in unification theory (quantum mechanics and relativity) which is also discussed in the film. Time dilation is something most people wouldn't know at first. I'd recommend Kip's book on the movie. Its very interesting and educational. Either way, I agree the movie wasn't good because of the complex science, it was good because it was really well done, the science was a nice touch.

      You mean hypothesis, not theory. Your definition for the word theory is not the same as a scientific theory.
      A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that is acquired through the scientific method and repeatedly tested and confirmed through observation and experimentation.
      As opposed to a contemplative and rational type of abstract or generalizing thinking, or the results of such thinking.
      As for whether they exist, they would in fact still be hypothetical. Its not bullshit, its just unsubstantiated. The math is sound, but there is no experiment to test the information, and no currently observed event that resembles the hypothesized situation. In effect, it could and should be true, but no one has seen it happen yet.

    • @RoScFan
      @RoScFan 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Robert Whitley It's no theory, the math is real. Mathematically, wormholes are as real as the blue color of the sky. All we need is to directly observe them to make them 100% science fact. Stephen Hawking, I believe it was in the 70s, wrote down the math for black holes, and for years black holes were just fancy math. Then Hubble came along and... confirmed black holes. So wormholes are not too far off. The only unrealistic thing about wormholes is making them artificially.... oh, and actually travelling through them. There's a debate, as far as I know, among theoretical physicists as to whether wormholes aren't too thin to let any solid matter through. However, they should allow the tiniest subatomic particles without a hitch, so faster than light radio communication should be feasible.
      And by Hubble, I meant the Hubble Space Telescope.

    • @RoScFan
      @RoScFan 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    not to mention that figuring out gravity has nothing to do with solving the problem of the fungus and the food shortage. the fungus has a good chance of finding a way onto cargo to the space colonies if there's so much of it that it can make the atmosphere unbreathable within a few human generations, and half the photosynthetic capabilities of the planet is in the ocean. putting aside all the plot holes and unrealism that comes with most hollywood scifi, it was still a visual experience with good actors and OST.

      they needed antigrav to launch huge O'Neill Cylinders for a mass migration as their Plan A. their Plan B was sending the astronauts to start an IVF colony. but logically the Plan A would be to kill the fungus, and the former A and B would be B and C. maybe they gave up on the fungus, or someone else not shown in the movie was working on a solution.
      it's like if there was a kind of inextinguishable fire that engulfed the entire block you lived on, you drive few streets away in a car that only holds 1 person. your family is supposed to build their own car to escape, instead of figuring out how to put out the fire, but they're missing part of the blueprints. you might find the missing info from outside, but you have no known way of calling home. and also there's a chance that the fire is hiding in your trunk, or the trunk of any cars that get built in your house.

    When I use my "you don't understand this film" card for Nolan's films which I rarely do it's never to make people feel dumb, I've never called anyone dumb or stupid over a film. It's not really the science, story, or physics it's mainly the simple emotional elements in the film, that people easily overlook and dismiss

    • @MAnnaconduit1
      @MAnnaconduit1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Henry Chen
      The problem with Nolan movies is that they try and be so technical, everything is explained either through dialogue or the film itself, nothing is left to interpretation.
      The same thing happened here everything was explained, however given the nature of the subject matter it makes bit more sense why that would be needed.
      The issue was that they spent so much attention and time trying to make sure the science was as authentic as possible and then added in this emotional horse-shit which totally ruins that whole concept.
      The emotion is a plot for pathos, but after you spend an entire film reinforcing the idea of science and reason, then throwing it out for love is quantifiable and can help in a back to the future esque time paradox, you sort of loose that credibility.

    • @henrysmart89
      @henrysmart89 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      MAnnaconduit1 Maybe you're right, that's how you feel. I don't think Nolan grounds his film to make everything out to be an SAT test or word puzzle to solve, he makes everything so realistic and grounded so it would be more relatable and epic. Nolan might seem pretentious and elitist the way he talks, carries himself, makes his film but everyone forgets he makes film for the masses, not just adults and geniuses, so he doesn't discriminate his audiences (maybe his cast). There's nothing wrong with that, you can't win them all, I don't feel he dumbs things down at all, maybe the expository dialogue does get repetitive but I feel it's still smooth and at times necessary if that makes people dumb or stupid than that's pretty immature, sometimes even I need a refresher with all the rules and whatnot.
      The "emotional horse-isht" wasn't that bad, cheesy at times(Brand's speech) and it was setup way before they delve into all the hard, mathematical science parts. All that "love transcends time and space" emotional stuff does make sense in a logical way and that's what made the film satisfying in the end, a bit crazy and weird in the end but nevertheless satisfying and meaningful.

    • @hopemoore
      @hopemoore 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      MAnnaconduit1 Without the "emotional horse-shit" the plot would fall apart since this non-scientific "love" was part of the plot. The idea was to combine both hard science and human emotion.

      gravity...really?
      So when the character himself literally repeats what Brand said, with emotional feeling being quantifiable and the fact that gravity somehow makes him transpire time and space until he is in some dimensional rift between reality and able to do soemthing to a book shelf?
      yeah see it doesn't matter how you explain, i don;t even think it matters how scientifically possible it is, it sounds so freaking stupid, it sounds exactly like 2001 a space odyssey's ending but at least 2001 never claimed to be some sort of pseudo factual science piece.

      It fails to address a lot of things people already familiar with the concepts would have asked already like ..ok so if you fold through 5th dimensional space, avoiding a paradox by jumping to a different 4th dimensional line we can say well ok you didint necessarily save "your world" but someone elses world. The only problem I have with people disliking Interstellar, is that a vast amount of them *don't* understand it, and call out aspects that are actually scientifically accurate as being the opposite. It annoys me as someone who studies physics on a daily basis... I mean you can dislike the movie for various reasons, but don't try to make up false errors where there wasn't any to begin with. This usually surrounds the black hole scenes. As we cannot observe a black hole (the inside of one even moreso) they can do whatever they like with it. Hell they could have filled the black hole with strippers and booze... and for all we know they could've hit the nail on the head. Don't call something scientifically accurate when there is no science to follow.

    • @The_blindpizzaguy1300
      @The_blindpizzaguy1300 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      For someone who studies physics on a daily basis I would think you would hate this film because the whole warm hole theory has no merit whatsoever also there's a number of other inaccuracies you can see it if you look into it according to scientific records that have been posted over the last decade this film would have actually not worked at all now I'm no physicist but all of the things that I've heard about the subject suggest that the spaceship when it went through the wormhole would have completely broken up it wouldn't just bend over and here's another thing if a black hole sucks UN isn't that automatically the end of you it doesn't matter if you're in a vehicle or not? Also are we moving farther away from the Son instead of closer to it? And if that's the case why isn't the planet ice instead of fires and dust should be bitter cold not boiling hot

    • @hastonlagrone768
      @hastonlagrone768 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, as a counter argument, it is possible to enter a black hole without being Spaghettified by its gravity, but it has to be a supermassive black hole (like Gargantua). The tidal forces in a black hole of this size are gradual enough not to instantly kill you once you approach (and pass) the event horizon. On the part about the wormhole, if it is stabilized with exotic matter (which would be the equivalent of negative gravitational pull (this subject has not been proven or disproven yet), and considering the bulk beings have control over gravity, its not inconceivable considering the bulk beings are potentially thousands of years more advanced than humans. Finally, the last planet you see in the movie is far from Gargantua, yes, but it orbits the other star in the system known as Pantagruel. Even though it is a neutron star and a fairly unlikely home, it is still not impossible. This is why the planet is a warm desert.

    • @The_blindpizzaguy1300
      @The_blindpizzaguy1300 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well according to the film it wasn't a large black hole and the planet they went it wasn't a warm Rocky desert it was a icebox with bad weather patterns on the ocean

    • @hastonlagrone768
      @hastonlagrone768 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      According to the information released along with the movie, the science of interstellar, Gargantua is massive. It has a diameter of 2 au. No stellar mass black hole is anywhere close to this large nor would any intermediate black holes. It takes an object with millions of times the mass of the sun to have a size like this. Earlier I thought you where discussing Edmunds planet at the very end. In some situations, moving away from the star can lead to you locating habitable planets. The surface temperature of a planet is not only based on the proximity to the star but the atmospheric density. You could move Earth to Mar's location in the solar system and it would still support life as we know it. with an object like Gargantua and its accretion disk which is much, much brighter, it would not be out of the realm of reality for a planet with a denser atmosphere orbiting farther from the black hole and still being habitable. Besides, Amelia Brand explains in the movie that they are not looking for another Earth, just a rock to cling to. A colder world can still have a large amount raw materials that with proper technology (that of which was carried on the endurance) could process into usable goods for a colony. You may not get to play around outside much, but you will survive.

      Alex Williamson'sadventures You are just now doing exactly how ***** said. You don't seem to actually understand what you are talking about and even admit that you are no physicist and still you talk about how some scenes seem unrealistic to you.To me it seems like you are just parroting some of the unqualified critics that claim to know how the world works.
      You think someone who studies physics would hate this movie? I think it's actually the exact opposite. Sure, even Interstellar is not fully realistic when you really start analyzing it, but if you compare it to most movies it excels at showing the unexplained while using many up to date theories, putting a lot of thought and effort into proper physics.
      Interstellar messed up at some points, and everyone can criticize whatever they want if it doesn't suit them. But making up false errors is just ignorant and dumb. Not saying you are making up things, I think you just repeat what you read somewhere. The ones to blame here are the people that talk rubbish and make it sound believable...
      I can fully understand *****. It's really annoying :/
