The fire photos are probably my favorite from you that I’ve seen. The “outdoor drama” one is absolutely perfect.

That shot at 3:30 with the Outdoor Drama is epic! That‘s a 1 in a 1000 shot.
As a fireman and a photographer, dropping off those prints at the firehouse would be one of the coolest donations/gifts those guys will ever get. It’ll hang on the wall in that station for generations and bring pride to the firefighters that did their job well that day. It’s rare to get pictures during a house fire especially high MP well composed images of them doing what they do best. Great images and I’m glad that citizen got out safely. Love your work, Matt!

I got to try a M11 a couple weeks ago and I must say I was absolutely blown away. Granted my main camera is a Sony A6000, so of course it was gonna be an insane step up, but still the pictures I took just absolutely blew my mind. Set the camera at 6400 ISO cause the light wasn't the best and 90% of the pictures still had almost no image noise. Also shot my favorite picture of the day at 1/30th of a second and it was still insanely sharp. Just overall a crazy good camera!

Well, it's like it's my birthday too...because I was TODAY years old when I found out that a big TH-camr was in Ohio! Chillicothe of all places. Mind. Blown. I'm in Dayton. Would love to connect with you about photography.
This is my 50th year as a working photographer. Your post brought back decades of my life with my face crammed against a camera. My first significant photo was in Time Magazine at 18 years-old, shot with a $100 Yashica camera.. I wish you the same joy I have had with cameras crammed in my face because decades from now you will realized you are a time-traveler snatching life at 125/sec.
That's beautiful to hear! I'm close to a couple of decades at this point and am just now starting to understand most of it.

I am not really sure. I understand the concept of spending $8000 on just a camera body to shoot exclusively in black-and-white. Does this camera excel a composition? Also, did you experience the freezing issues that plagues leica cameras?

Love the idea of documenting your local community. That’s what it’s all about. Check out the work of James Ravilious and the Beaford archive here in the UK, if you haven’t already. A masterclass in doing exactly that.

How is the silver holding up? What made you go silver over black just aesthetic? Have an m10 want the black m11 but the lack of brass bugs me. I like the weight of the m10 in brass.
A camera, for a 20th of the M11 cost, makes the same images (for practical purposes); less show, more money remain in the pocket…so, what’s better; the show, or, the GO

The high shutter speed rumour is a good example of how the internet can spread like wildfire and create a false narrative. You and many others have totally debunked it.I also have the M11 and haven't seen any issues. Great video and images, especially the fire one.
It’s sharp with slow speed but you closed the aperture … is the rangefinder focusing system enough to pin point a perfect focus with such a high resolution and a shallow depth of field.

have you tried using Sandisk sd cards in your m11? That was the solution for a loot of people with the same problem.

My experience with digital leica is that they are not only heavily overpriced they are also heavily overrated. The mechanical leica are by far the best dough.
How much better is the Dynamic range from the m10 is it noticeable like others are saying?

Hi Matt, love your videos and great inspiration for photographing every day life. My question is you have the M11 and convert to B&W. Considering you shoot mainly in B&W would you go for the Monochrome or keep the colour to have the flexibility.

I feel like the old documentary spirit of Leica still makes them the perfect everyday carry camera.
I’m still on the M 240, and even though I’ve also got the Q2 Monochrom with basically the same battery setup, as the M11, I just can’t get over the lack of bottom plate on the M11. What do you think about the USB-C port? I’d be paranoid of getting grunge or moisture in it.

Cool camera but I don’t think I could ever shoot digital again. It just doesn’t feel right to me any more.
Great shots. Will you find yourself adding film grain to your digital shots? I tried out the M11 in DC. You obviously have very good technique. For me it was clear that if you want to squeeze the most out of 60 megapickels without IBIS you need a fast(er) shutter speed when compared to 24 megapickels. No surprises there. My test shots using settings I would have been ok with on 24MPX showed clear motion blur at 60 MPX. It's physics. But you can always downsize in post if you need the extra light.
Happy Birthday! Thanks for the video. Since you do a lot of B&W, I'd be interested in hearing why you didn't go for the Monochrom? I'm interested in the M10M for my work, but that's a big jump from my Sony a7RII.
Tried the M11 for a day and very quickly saw the camera shake issue. I shoot down to 1/15th on my M6 with 80% hit rate, 1/30 is basically 100%. I was getting shake often at 1/125th on the M11 using a 50mm which is nuts. Leica themselves advise a shutter speed x4 the focal length as opposed to the equivalent or maybe x2 to be safe. Had to take it back in the end. Otherwise a nice camera.

Great vid! Love the "Outdoor Drama" photo... side completely unrelated question... to your right in the video / camera left, you have a work bench in front of your bench where your DSLR scanning rig is set up. Is that a work bench or a desk?
A follow up to my metering question on your last video! I bought an M6 when they were "cheap" and then sold it when prices went silly to buy an M-E 240. In that time I've also bought and sold an M2, as I missed film but then never found myself using it. Lately I've thought that an M-P might be nice, but then I think the money would be better put toward either an M10-M , M11 or something entirely different. How do you see yourself using the old M6 moving forward? Will it still see frequent use as a tool?

For color, if you punched in White Balance at above 7100 and below 7300, the sensor becomes other worldly. Great set!

Matt, love the black and white with the M11. Do you just convert to B&W in lightroom and then tweak from there? I know LRC has an M11 profile for the color and i'm curious to start experimenting with more black and white as I've always liked that look and expression. Funny about the needing a use a faster shutter speed get sharper photos... wonder how much of that just people getting there first rangefinder and missing focus. Thanks for sharing photos look great! i recently bought a pixii digital rangefinder though part of my wishes i bought a Leica... maybe next time, its been a good camera outside of the battery life not being amazing and little things like having a button on/off over a switch
