Apples and oranges. You could compare it to a Kurzweil PC4 if we’re going to do that nonsense and the XY looks like a terrible spend. Same goes with comparing it to an iPad and software synths. More for less.
I had been waiting for a TE device that would fill the gaps left by the OP-1 (even the Field), and as soon as I saw the videos about the OP-XY, I thought, "OK, thank you, TE-you did it! I want it." Since I’m not a fan of having too many devices-it distracts me-I decided to sell some gear to fund this purchase. I sold the Syntakt (which I think is a fantastic machine), the Deluge (another exceptional groovebox), two Strymons, and a Zildjian Ride cymbal that I didn’t use often. In short, I cleared out some stuff to focus on one device, and I can’t wait to try it out and enjoy it. I loved the OP-1, but its flaws drove me mad. Now, this new device seems like the perfection I’ve been waiting for. I’m grateful to these manufacturers for creating these incredible tools that bring us so much joy.
I have used the OP1 and then the OP1 Field a lot. I have come to the conclusion that I am not made for the tape workflow, because I want to have control on the notes I record, and to be able to edit them afterwards. I am composing my first song on the XY and I am quite happy for the quality of the sounds too. Today I sequenced four bars with drums on track 1, bass on track 2 and a choir doing a D minor chord on track 3. Then I put the SAMPLE engine on track 4 and sampled a chord progression using the auto-transpose. A little editing and I had my drums+bass+choir sequence ready, so I could delete tracks 1, 2 and 3... this is fantastic! XY is absolutely great FOR ME.. (personal opinion of course)

That would really put me into even more financial crisis planning on XY ...... with new big a$$ Muse sitting here at the table 🤣 But will be on V3! One feature in particular attracted me to chain numbered patterns (or scenes or phrases, how they called it there). I like to make full structure for a song right there in mobile device. Spoiled by decade of playing Korg Gadget. XY has song buildup feature too. I did not like that on Polyend Play+ (or Circuits, or VerseLab), too many things to copy/paste (the flip side if preset per patten flexibility).
Dude, I don't know how you so eloquently and patiently deal with some of these troglodytes leaving the most vapid and needlessly combative comments imaginable. It's truly a superpower that you seemingly don't let them get to you! Props, lol.

Hahaha you couldn’t resist! I know the feeling well. Enjoy, my friend! At the end of the day, you can’t take it with you. Still saving for my Syntakt-one day…
No need to justify it, it was inevitable. And I’m sure you’ll love it and hope you do. Looking forward to the reviews. Like you I’ve been watching all the reviews. I’d love to know about exporting into a DAW (and logic specifically ) and how deep that is, ie can you export by track for processing post, and how easy it is. Second point I’d love you to explore for me, as a guitarist, drummer, producer etc, I like the op-1f. It’s a quirky workflow, but I like it, and it’s more similar to traditional song writing. For that reason I think I’ve never truly clicked with any sequencer, and I’ve tried a few (not the oxy, but the hapix squarp, Elektron and a few others). So my question is, for people like me can you give some insights into op-1f vs XY. Not as a “one is better” thing, more of a; if you like this probably this one for you, if you like that, maybe the other one. Whilst I recognise the TE stuff is a lot of money, I don’t think it’s ridiculous for what it is, the work that goes in and the total package. And also the resale values hold pretty good. So I wish people would focus on the positives or invest their energy elsewhere. I think it’s inevitable the gas will get me and I’ll eventually get an XY, but I’m not sure if it will be as enjoyable for me personally as the OP-1f journey has been. Everyone is different and is inspired by different things. Hoping our views help me one way or the other!
I managed to snatch a used OP-Z for less than a tenth of the cost of the OP-XY. Yes it was bend but a quick bake at 100C of the casing sorted that out. The OP-Z effects quality for example is not that great and it often sounds congested. I suppose that's where work in DAW comes in ideally with individual tracks being exported but I doubt it works ? I hope you will compare OPZ and OP XY from an audio quality stand point.
@1dkappe " bake" was a slightly exaggerated use of language. You basically warm up the plastic and then use some calipers to fix it on a flat surface while cooling. I never had any of the mentioned button issues so far.
Quick question about the "brain" function : Doesn't the Polyend Synth just have that ? Some kind of tracking/transposing melody ? Maybe I am mistaken...
@@MidlifeSynthesist Yes you are right, no sequence it ! Damned. They missed that spot. Anyway your videos are always super cool to watch and informative. Thank you !
Thanks for taking the plunge. I really hope you enjoy it, and I’m looking forward to your videos with it! I was also eyeing it for a while, but ended up going for the OP-1 Field after finding a $500 discount on Black Friday.
I love the OP-1 but so quirky workflow that cannot use more than to scratch out ideas. I am more productive with my Virus, Elektron and modulars. Hopefully the quirks for sequencing and use are better on the OP XY.
He man, nice video. I won't get one, but I want one ;P PS, your voice sounds like it is clipping often (in all your recent videos). Not sure what you're doing, but I'm assuming it's not the gear 🤣

Bro i mean... if it sounds like a million bucks to your year... why not? To me it's a thing i wouldn't buy for 200 bucks let alone two grands, but if people love it so let them buy it... Right? It's Christmas time around the corner. Make yourself feel good
I can't wait for your review to come out!!! The moment they are available in the shop here in Belgium i am going to get me one for sure,Always wanted an op-1 but never bought it because of the workflow,Now with this sequencing style i can't resist anymore😅my Digitakt mk1 has to go now!
I have and OP-1 and OP-Z but never bought a OP-1 Field as I considered it too expensive. Like you, I think the OP-XY has more to offer than the OP-1 Field especially as it's £1899 in the UK (only £100 more expensive than the OP-1 Field) but I still feel for that amount of money I would rather buy a Push 3 Standalone which fully integrates with a DAW and costs less. Interestingly, the Polyend Synth which costs 499 euros and looks like an Ableton Move, but with more encoders, pads and has a larger colour display, offers a similar capability where sequences are automatically transposed to a chosen scale, plus the note mode pad scale layout automatically changes to reflect that chosen scale. I am looking forward to your OP-XY review.
There is one thing with teenage engineering which has nothing to do with price. Their support is $hit! I have an original op-1, some keys are malfunctioning and I am unable to get a replacement keyboard for it. I have an OP-Z with double trigger issues. No rectification is possible. Great devices, but no responsibility. When you sell something expensive you must also provide value. The OP-xy has the same computer laptop keys, they will malfunction! I baby these devices. Both have original decksavers.
I might be missing some nuance here but the SQ-64 has sequence transposition locked to a selected scale and root. Pretty good for a device that’s in the $100-200 range nowadays
@The Midlife Synthesist, What I would like to know is if it can play audio files that are longer than the 20 second sampling time limit, if you load them on the OP-XY via USB.
Very excited for your video on it! Plan to pick one up myself as it looks way more suited to my workflow and has all the features I felt the OP-1 was missing. Really miss that UI design and the fun that TE offers with their products. Would love to see content on FX and midi sends through pedals as I’ve not seen that yet. Also in depth content on the sampler modules!
I don't think anyone begrudges people who happen to buy it. I have enough money to buy it, but i'd never sink that much money on something that could get stepped on and destroyed instantly. I don't own a thousand dollar phone for the same reason - despite it being within my budget. The hate shouldn't transfer to the purchasers, but I'm sure a few salty people do that. It's fine to hate the price vs feature comparison, and the company that's more of a luxury brand than a music company. The problem is that this should absolutely be half the cost or less. I just don't see anything justifying the cost as far as internals and processors and such go. The R&D cost is also negligible considering this is more of a tweak on an existing concept and a lot of the groundwork for them was already laid out in previous products. I'd love to own this, but I just can't justify it.
I work on software analyzing chips power, mechanical, heat, etc. Turning new processor every year for mass produced phones, pretty much the same phone, is one thing. What TE is doing investing so much work, delivering such solid hard/software for a niche product is truly brave and incredible. As RD I’d say they are heroes 🎉 And yes, I would nor recommend stepping on it, at least barefoot 😂 there is plenty of raspberry pi plastic boxes for that
I for once believe there is way more value in this device compared to the OP-1 Field. But other than that, the OP-XY seems more like a happy accidents device to me, full of random generative tricks. Not so much a device you would use for focused track design. I think that's more the realm of deicated workstations like the MPC.
I said "I'm fckn getting it" day one because I know well its value for my music making, because OP-Z is in my bag for past 6 years. What I learned in past two weeks (incl. few days it pre-leaked), I don't have to apologize for getting it 😂 What I see/know/hear is an amazing forward looking device for music making. We still talk about love to music, right? I'd love to hear more from you on full song making process (vs 4 bar beat). And regarding synth/DAW/fx connectivity + transferring project, so about continuity of music making flow (vs never letting your ideas see a light of day). What I do not want to see though is comparison to any MPCs, Electrons, SP-404 (huge), MC-707, or Deluge (no matter how you love it ;). While I have nothing against those, OP-XY is in totally different league and should not be aligned to any larger, no battery groovebox, even if you can buy 2 or 3 of those. Because if you compare anything to OP-XY it can be M8, MC-101, OP-1f/Z, EP-133/1320, or Polyend Tracker/Play, or Move, right? You would not compare OP-XY to Push3, and if you do, you can take Push to couch/backyard, but you will not drop it into your backpack. Fair comparison would be something as capable as Oxi + Vector synth for example. Though OP-XY is in one small package and with battery. It's also easy do the money math this way: capable sequencer + very portable synth == you arrive to a a same price very fast (if you even want to spend any more seconds on this nonsense) 😎 Looking forward for your impression on OP-XY, because I know you will be talking about MUSIC and GAS and Life of gear addict. Hopefully you can un-divide the nation with well informed and hand-on experience (no pressure). Maybe leaving some folks a leeway/helping hand who fell into trap of-overpriced-hipster-whining to finally look at the instrument and what it can do for them. Make friends friends again ..... but yeah .... OP-XY release is a serious test of tolerance and social skills, beside being GAS bomb explosion 🤣I'm still in shock. Because its a must for me and I keep thinking what else I'm selling to fund it .... just right after getting Muse that I'm not returning LOL
What’s funny is I have no intention of buying this but I am also intrigued about why it is worth that much to someone. I don’t understand what the big deal is and I wonder if I’m missing something.
😅Yes, we need more details about the XY. So far I understand that it is based on the OP-Z which I absolutley love. That being said, the OP-Z already has an "intelligent" transpose feature that can be sequenced. Didn't have a fancy name though. I use it all the time. I am really interested in polyphony limits, note stealing in the context of all 8 machine tracks, recording off-grid and if its true that the resolution is 1920 ppqn. Which seems outrages. And the quality of the master compressor. Can it mix and produce tracks to be ready for mastering and publishing? That would be deciding factors for me. Thanks!!!
I hope you’ll enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine. Though I have to admit, I had to send mine back because the power switch was defective. Unfortunately, it will take some time before the device is back in stock at the retailer. A typical TE story...
The fact that people hate on the price shows a total lack of experience with purchasing actual instruments. Try buying a Taylor, Gibson, or, heaven forbids, a decent drum kit complete with quality hardware, snare, and cymbals. The Yamaha Seqtrak is there for low-end of the market - but the battery life, build quality, and overall fun factor (not to mention useable screen) isn’t the same (I’ve tried both).
I was undecided or even against it for a day or two, but after watching a couple of raw videos when someone created music on them, I bought one instantly. It's not that expensive for me, and it will be fun to carry around and play from time to time. I always appreciate well-designed things. I bought mine from a local shop, so I'll have to wait a few weeks.
I would like to know what is special about it in terms of workflow. Special in the beneficial way. What are the unique functions? I mean try unique. What are the features that are not unique but highly sought after-- and already exist in other- like sample chop. And how are they better in those device? Faster? Less editing to get to something you like? Etc…
I'm curious as to what your thoughts will wind up being on such, but HOLY HELL HE ISN'T WEARING THE SLING! That's kind of a huge point in my mind, even if you're probably at the "able to take it off every now and then for short periods" stage. Either way, so glad to see such as it's a nice step to see. If you have any Elektron gear, I'd love to hear comparisons against such tools as well, since the OP-XY is more expensive than a RYTM mk II, or even a Push 3 Standalone...
I've been waiting for an OP-Z Field for years, and the wait is finally over. The XY has been in development for a long time, and it shows. I think they've done a great job. The whole debate about the price tag is a waste of time and energy. If you want one, buy it. If you think it's not worth it, skip it. That simple.
I have just alerted you that the brain is neither more nor less than what Roland's jd-xi offers; however, the punch in FX of the OP-XY, it is specific to the teenage brand and it is fun for the live!!!!
Would be interested to see if he still has it after 30 days. Its pretty easy to "buy" a piece of gear and to send it back before the 30 day return policy for geartube video. Sorry if I'm being cynical, but this is a pretty simple way to "invest" without really investing. I do like this channel, however, I kinda know the YT game.
I completely understand your stance. Just so you know, the import and shipping to Chile alone will cost around 650 dollars, so I’m getting shafted either way. 😂 Also, if I where to return it, that in itself would speak volumes as to if I think it’s worth it or not
@MidlifeSynthesist Thanks for taking the time to reply. Didn’t know the whole customs/transport stuff so my comment is obviously not relevant. Great job on the Sting cover the other day!
Another reason to distrust gear TH-cam reviews is that the algorithm is driven by GAS. If you want a trustworthy review, wait a few months on the new shiny gadget to see if anyone is still talking about it - or, better yet, actually making music 😊
I LOVE AND RESPECT YOU AND THIS CHANNEL! I actually admire when you admit the MPC rip off story way back. But, you are the real deal. Only person in the game being real.
A life lived with few choices would be lackluster and boring. When seeking new gear I Iam happy that there is a huge range of equipment to research. Price is but another factor. I certainly do not get angry about the cost of top-tier equipment nor feel disdain for those low priced products that are copies made in far away places. Another unaffordable synthesizer is fun to check out yet I already know my DeepMind12 will have to do. It is what it is. Thanks for the video.
I would fully master this device and see what it can do. All the hidden Easter eggs, etc. Ask people who you think are masters with it to give you hacks with it. Really tear it open. Then you can give an honest opinion. I feel people just play with it for a couple of days and then give it hell. It's not fair. For me, what makes me nervous, is their quality control. Fader gate sounds terrible. I hope that doesn't happen with this thing.
Anyone buying TE stuff abroad contributes to Sweden's current account positively. So, a huge thank you from Sweden! And with the cost of their gear and the weak Swedish krona it's currently contributing quite a lot 😂
I think it looks super cool but if I can’t sell both my EP-133 and OP-Z and have enough money for it then it’s not even on my radar unfortunately. Even if I started saving for it, it would take long enough for me to come to my senses and realize my DAW can do everything it does and more. TE truly gives no fucks about GAS impulse buyers tho and I respect it
I sincerely love that this video is literally just about why you bought the XY, when you haven't even gotten it yet. Now the question is what happens at the end of the return period! :D
Haaaa, this is brilliant... did you do this stunt just to justify it to your better half? :) This is genius! Seriously though, hope you are getting better, you sure do look better. Keep on!
Good approach! While I certainly will watch your review, I will most likely not buy the OP-XY, for the very simple fact that I cannot justify spending that much money for a tiny piece of gear. I know size doesn't matter, but I just don't see myself spending that much time with the OP-XY to even justify $500. I just have too much great hardware in the house that fascinates me and that I haven't yet fully squeezed out. And, if I start thinking about what I could buy with $2300 from my want-to-have list, I start drooling immediately...
I don’t begrudge anyone. I don’t see the value to me doesn’t mean I hate the thing or people who do. More power to anyone who can get that device for free cuz that’s all it’s worth to me. I’d rather have the synth over your broken shoulder :)
For people complaining about the price (yes - it's more than I can afford for a hardware synth) they should be glad they don't play timpani in an orchestra. You could buy 10 OP-XY's for a professional set of four timpani drums. It's the same with other professional orchestral instruments, although not quite as extreme. Two OP-XY's will get you a bass trombone, for instance. Good luck with your follow-ups on the OP-XY! I'll likely follow along because, even though I won't ever be able to afford one, I enjoy watching what people can do with these devices.
You owe nobody an explanation. Looking forward to you stuff! To those considering the OP-XY, Detroit Modular is always running 10% off deals on their gear. No shipping or tax in most states. And they are nice guys (I'm not affiliated with them - other that being a customer. Just trying to help out the peeps who want an OP.) I'm curious about the file system compared to the FIELD. I haven' gotten my head around it based on XY reviews - looks like you can create folder hierarchy? That's handy.
You are a dentist…live a little. If you don’t like it send it back. I like the honesty. If you have a DAW you probably dont need it. I always wanted a op1 but I have legit lost interest and use an iPad that is nearly as expensive…best portable device iOS iPad by miles. Speaking of yolo I do have a pair of 3K Meze empyrean headphones …I highly recommend this upgrade as it will improve your experience on any gear.
TH-camrs should be paid or receive free gear to promote a company's product. I find it super weird that so many are willing to review and hype a piece of hardware just to create TH-cam content. You're essentially working for free. It's one thing if you bought a synth and are showcasing your gear, but it's another thing to do an entire review promoting a product for free and then send it back. I love your videos. I like the quirkiness and design/UI of TE's gear, but I think my limit for their gear is the PO-133, might get one in the future. For now, I recently cleared my GAS savings account to obtain two Elektron devices, so I'm GAS-shielded and honeymooning the cr*p out of it.
All their devices look like a toy you would find an a toy chest. But with serious power. It's something you can truly play with and have fun with. I think that's why people love their stuff.
Can’t wait to see what potential makes this worth the price tag or not. I’m also gassed with the brain transposition thing. But I just can’t afford it. Someday maybe. For now I’m just gonna save for live suite. Max for live devices are calling my name.
My ex wife told me it was over because she said I loved my gear more than her. My reply was “The audacity of you thinking such a thing, I would never pick you over gear!”. 😈
@@MidlifeSynthesist You really don't owe anyone any explanation for buying what you want. But just for the sake of argument. If 1 of the 2 videos is "wrong" I would say it's the first one. No need to really say "I'm not doing something". I do appretiate your honesty and all the info, even if its "GAS got to me..... Tell my wife I love.... hee.rr.... ugh..." But as we say en mis tierras. No aclares que oscureces
I really don’t understand why there needs to be so much apologist speak for TE and their pricing. People don’t bat an eye paying this much for a nice guitar, outboard gear, other synths (Moog, Sequential, etc) Is it really because it’s so small and perceived as a toy that people can’t understand TEs pricing? TE makes extremely capable, albeit sometimes quirky products. Not a dig at you @midlifesynthesis, your video is great here and I’m glad you’re buying one to share your thoughts with the synth community.
I am confident someone will still complain, thus proving it's not about shilling. It's straight up hate with a side of jealousy. If these devices were $200, cats would be all over this. Do you. They can kiss the baby.
Good video but honestly fuck the haters man! Enjoy your new instrument! You have every right to spend your money how you want and everyone places value differently! If it makes you happy then do it! YOLO ❤🎉
Here’s the thing that makes this a low risk approach to making content. Buy it, use it and make a few videos during the return window. If you like it/it inspires you/it drives content then keep it. If it doesn’t, send it back. Look at the postage cost as the loan fee.
Not a bad idea at all, however the postage/import tax alone is around 650 dollars, so no exactly “low risk”😅 I’m hoping I enjoy it enough to make it worth it!
@ wow that’s crazy. Fingers crossed then you love it or can flip it for as little loss as possible. Either way, I think you can make some interesting content. I’ve not seen too many comparison videos for example. Could be useful
People will be jealous, the way they express that is by blaming something or someone... It's just unfair to do that with a person just trying to share some thoughts vlogging on TH-cam!

Functionality vs M8 tracker is the comparison I want.
That is first on my list!🔥🔥
Totally! That's the one I would compare. Though we also need to take into account that some people do not have 100% vision 🤣
@@samprock lol. I have V2 coming Tuesday. That screen is definitely bigger than XY
@@lebronsinclair8012 But font is smaller LOL I'm "lucky" did not want hassle with preorder on M8, but I was at the order page for a week.
I thinking of dropping my m8 for this as it appears to solve a lot of my frustrations with that device (hate hexidecimal for example)
I have the OP-1F, M8 and Deluge and am really looking forward to seeing how the XY compares. Do I need to give into my GAS, hoping you can help me...
Dude, I don't know how you so eloquently and patiently deal with some of these troglodytes leaving the most vapid and needlessly combative comments imaginable. It's truly a superpower that you seemingly don't let them get to you! Props, lol.
I am saving up for one as well. 😅
❤ Having to save for something you want, regardless of how long it takes is something that I (maybe incorrectly) feel doesn't happen enough in these modern uberfast times.
Awesome💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
So you did it!! Yeah, it is just an amazing and modern piece of gear! Enjoy!
Indeed!!!
Thanks so much my friend!! Hope to share the good times soon!
@@MidlifeSynthesist Things come out of this thing real quick! You will love it!!!
My last comment on this channel's previous OP-XY video led me to buy a 1010 Blackbox based on another viewer's comment so I have that going for me.
Lol! So cool❤️
You have to bake the op-z to unbend? Holy shit!! Is there a fix for the various button and knob issues?
@1dkappe " bake" was a slightly exaggerated use of language. You basically warm up the plastic and then use some calipers to fix it on a flat surface while cooling. I never had any of the mentioned button issues so far.
You would not be able to take it from me. Even I'm struggling to fund OP-XY, the OP-Z stays! 🤣
Quick question about the "brain" function :
Doesn't the Polyend Synth just have that ? Some kind of tracking/transposing melody ? Maybe I am mistaken...
I think it does have it! Apparently you can’t sequence it though. Gonna have to check it out! Thanks for watching!
OP-Z has it, as so many MIDI controllers or synths. Hopefully this time OP-XY turn it into reality by making it useable.
Good video. Are you not using the pro 3 anymore?
I love the OP-1 but so quirky workflow that cannot use more than to scratch out ideas. I am more productive with my Virus, Elektron and modulars. Hopefully the quirks for sequencing and use are better on the OP XY.
He man, nice video.
I won't get one, but I want one ;P
PS, your voice sounds like it is clipping often (in all your recent videos).
Not sure what you're doing, but I'm assuming it's not the gear 🤣
@@tricks-and-tips thanks my friend! And thanks for the heads up regarding the clipping. I think it might be time to replace my current microphone with something else like a lav mic. Lots of love!!
@@MidlifeSynthesist
It sounds a bit like my Nikon D750 onboard mic does which seems to have horrible pre amps that are overdriven way too quickly.
Which mic + pre are you using?
Bro i mean... if it sounds like a million bucks to your year... why not? To me it's a thing i wouldn't buy for 200 bucks let alone two grands, but if people love it so let them buy it... Right? It's Christmas time around the corner. Make yourself feel good
Lol! You said it!😜 lots of love!
Finally someone who doesn’t want one with a measured response. 👏
Cool ! I look forward to the comparison with Deluge
I can't wait for your review to come out!!! The moment they are available in the shop here in Belgium i am going to get me one for sure,Always wanted an op-1 but never bought it because of the workflow,Now with this sequencing style i can't resist anymore😅my Digitakt mk1 has to go now!
Thanks so much for the good vibes my friend! See you soon❤️
I’m excited about a comparison video as someone who is selling stuff and saving for the XY.
Awesome!! I hope to provide some good info for you soon my friend!
It will be interesting to hear your take. I hope you have fun exploring the XY.
Thanks so much my friend! I’m hoping it’s a fun ride as well!
THIS 100%
I might be missing some nuance here but the SQ-64 has sequence transposition locked to a selected scale and root. Pretty good for a device that’s in the $100-200 range nowadays
@The Midlife Synthesist, What I would like to know is if it can play audio files that are longer than the 20 second sampling time limit, if you load them on the OP-XY via USB.
You can’t. I’ve tried. Unfortunately… they copy fine, but when you try to use them, they just don’t load.
I’m writing all of these down!❤️❤️
Very excited for your video on it!
As RD I’d say they are heroes 🎉
And yes, I would nor recommend stepping on it, at least barefoot 😂 there is plenty of raspberry pi plastic boxes for that
I for once believe there is way more value in this device compared to the OP-1 Field.
It's also easy do the money math this way: capable sequencer + very portable synth == you arrive to a a same price very fast (if you even want to spend any more seconds on this nonsense) 😎
Looking forward for your impression on OP-XY, because I know you will be talking about MUSIC and GAS and Life of gear addict. Hopefully you can un-divide the nation with well informed and hand-on experience (no pressure). Maybe leaving some folks a leeway/helping hand who fell into trap of-overpriced-hipster-whining to finally look at the instrument and what it can do for them. Make friends friends again
..... but yeah ....
Thanks!!!
Bring it on! And I hope you continue to recover well!
If it makes sense a comparison between XY, Deluge and Seqtrak would be helpful. Thanks!
Sounds great, thanks!
Thank you! See you soon!!
I hope you’ll enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine. Though I have to admit, I had to send mine back because the power switch was defective. Unfortunately, it will take some time before the device is back in stock at the retailer. A typical TE story...
Congrats on the XY, looks so dope!
😅You finally did it!
Enjoy it! Love your channel, really looking forward to seeing your review
Thanks so much for the encouragement!! I’m still wondering if I made a huge mistake😅 see you soon my friend!
Good vibes :) Really looking forward to your comparison to some other groovebox devices!
Thanks so much my friend!!
The fact that people hate on the price shows a total lack of experience with purchasing actual instruments. Try buying a Taylor, Gibson, or, heaven forbids, a decent drum kit complete with quality hardware, snare, and cymbals. The Yamaha Seqtrak is there for low-end of the market - but the battery life, build quality, and overall fun factor (not to mention useable screen) isn’t the same (I’ve tried both).
lol that escalated quickly 😂
looking forward to review 👍
It's funny you'll have the unbiased review and i'll have the "i'm just borrowing it" one ... eventually - lol.
Need all pieces to have the full picture! Looking forward to your videos bro!
Now it’s time to make the ultimate comparison between two portable beasts: M8 vs XY!💥
YES!! That’ll be my first one for sure!
I would like to know what is special about it in terms of workflow. Special in the beneficial way. What are the unique functions? I mean try unique. What are the features that are not unique but highly sought after-- and already exist in other- like sample chop. And how are they better in those device? Faster? Less editing to get to something you like? Etc…
If anybody is looking at creating arps between different keys/scales, try out the polymath sequencer by novel music.
I'm fairly neutral re: TE, but I do enjoy cattiness. Looking forward to it!
🐈 LOL!
👏🏻 Sweet. Thank you.
If you have any Elektron gear, I'd love to hear comparisons against such tools as well, since the OP-XY is more expensive than a RYTM mk II, or even a Push 3 Standalone...
love to see comparison with M8! did u check M8 model 02?
I did! Made a video on it if you want to check it out👍🏼 I ADORE the M8 mk2🔥🔥
Yes he's got a video of it, apparently it's a substantial upgrade over og version.
I just bought an MS-20 mini today I didn’t need so I can’t judge.
Also, if I where to return it, that in itself would speak volumes as to if I think it’s worth it or not
@MidlifeSynthesist Thanks for taking the time to reply. Didn’t know the whole customs/transport stuff so my comment is obviously not relevant. Great job on the Sting cover the other day!
@ thanks so much!! I want to see if I can do structures songs with vocals on the xy as well! See you soon!
Man, looking forward to that video pitting the XY against the Deluge.
Me too!🤘🏻
I’d like to see sequencer compared to oxi
Another reason to distrust gear TH-cam reviews is that the algorithm is driven by GAS. If you want a trustworthy review, wait a few months on the new shiny gadget to see if anyone is still talking about it - or, better yet, actually making music 😊
This is actually a very fair point! That’s why this channel was built on long term reviews mostly🤘🏻 cheers!
@ I very much appreciate that focus (and that you are a great musician too!) 🙏
I LOVE AND RESPECT YOU AND THIS CHANNEL!
I love it, but I found a bug. If you record to a file, and let it max out at 20 sec. time, the file exists but has no sound. Have you seen this?
You are right - Shimmery talks about it in his sampling video
I’m glad I helped?😅
I think it looks super cool but if I can’t sell both my EP-133 and OP-Z and have enough money for it then it’s not even on my radar unfortunately. Even if I started saving for it, it would take long enough for me to come to my senses and realize my DAW can do everything it does and more. TE truly gives no fucks about GAS impulse buyers tho and I respect it
I sincerely love that this video is literally just about why you bought the XY, when you haven't even gotten it yet. Now the question is what happens at the end of the return period! :D
I left a 👍🏻 as is tradition. Oh, and I enjoyed the South Park reference. 😊
Not sure if you have any eurorack but I would love to see how the CV output can be used
Haaaa, this is brilliant... did you do this stunt just to justify it to your better half? :) This is genius!
Seriously though, hope you are getting better, you sure do look better. Keep on!
I'm calling it.
I WANT MY REVIEW NOW!
SO DO I!😂
I'm not buying one, but I'm excited for you and hope you really have fun with it.
But does it have the cow?
did you make the music in the background?
Sorry for the rant.
@@biggrime hey there my friend! No worries, I’m buying it because I’m interested, and making content is something I love so it’s a win win👍🏼 plus, I’ll only be “promoting” it if I like it😜 might be I rip it a new one😂

@@MidlifeSynthesist You wish! LOL I never saw Subsequent 37 disappeared from your background any video. It's that sort of love. You stack with it mate! 🤣
Enjoy your gear MLSynth :-) What can I say...there's more expensive gear than this, and that's being bought too.
I’m curious to see just how “life changing” this thing is as well! Hope I’m not disappointed!🫢
I’m here for it Brother!

@2:40 *OMG* The resemblance is _uncanny!_ 😳
This is the hardest I've ever seen someone rationalize a purchase :D

@@MidlifeSynthesist You really don't owe anyone any explanation for buying what you want. But just for the sake of argument. If 1 of the 2 videos is "wrong" I would say it's the first one. I really don’t understand why there needs to be so much apologist speak for TE and their pricing.
People don’t bat an eye paying this much for a nice guitar, outboard gear, other synths (Moog, Sequential, etc)
Is it really because it’s so small and perceived as a toy that people can’t understand TEs pricing? TE makes extremely capable, albeit sometimes quirky products.
Not a dig at you
@midlifesynthesis, your video is great here and I’m glad you’re buying one to share your thoughts with the synth community.
YOLO ❤🎉
Thanks so much my friend!! Lots of love your way!!🙌🏻
What is wrong with the transposition on Deluge?
Given the dearth of content, I can't imagine they're selling that well.
Lmao i love that you dedicated an entire video to explaining why you bought something from Teenage Engineering
I'm not mad at you. I'm interested to hear how you like it
that(yours) is the review to see!
Thanks so much!❤️🙌🏻
Here’s the thing that makes this a low risk approach to making content.
