Feed stores only sell blackstrap molasses, dont know if it sulferd of not. Blackstrap molasses has no sugar at all, so the sugar you add makes the alcohol. Use only unsulfered molasses. 14 liters for $22 dollars.
You can not trust your reading on the hydrometer because there are a lot of unfermentable sugars in molasses but you'll be close ish. Feed store molasses is not a good idea. It can have antibiotics and other things in it even antifreeze!
Doodles - I'm not sure if you are familiar with "Barley and Hops Brewing LLC" TH-cam channel, but he does an excellent lesson on using the Hydrometer. Here's a link th-cam.com/video/dN0jkvynM9Y/w-d-xo.html
How did you stop it puking, cos this baby will foam like nothing else when inside the still. I use butter myself - but just wondered how you tackled this?.
You should get my book "The Recipe - Reviving the Lost Art of Home Distilling" on Amazon. It will answer all your questions and more about anti-puking agents such as food grade silicon based de-foamers.
hi, im trying to make my rum but i dont know how much yeast should i use... how much yeast did you use for 20 lt water, 6kg molasses and 4 kg cane sugar?
Very bad advice given here. Do not use feed store molasses for human consumption. There are major differences in feed grade for animals and food grade for humans. Blackstrap is a waste product sold in third-world-countries to unaware consumers.
Not to bash but gravity is not the right term. Its density. The gravity is the force keeping is on earth, while density is the weight per volume liquid! Great video otherwise keep it up

Ya..no shit. I just need about 36 hours in every day and I need to learn to go without sleep....
Malcolm Bucholtz hey man why did you stop uploading I need your videos
But is that not accurate due to all the unforgettable things in molasses?
You can buy a tilt instrument
Yes but why don't you show us how to distil it. All you've made really is a very strong beer/wine.
So finished abv would be less

When he says gravity, he is referring to Specific Gravity.
