I like to think these were done by asking an AI chatbot to do a movie recap. Makes the more annoying mistakes like calling someone the opposite gender often lol
Was super sad this only had one season. it had such a interesting premise, like it was so not without it's flaws and like some other sci-fi niche hits its only really gained more of a popularity well after it aired.
Some viewers have noticed, to the disagreement of others, that the main goal of "The Ascension" according to the chief project manager, was to ultimately produce some form of "superbeings" which eventually manifested in one girl character with clairvoyant abilities. I think this was the subplot that future seasons and episodes were going to eventually turn into the main plot, somewhat similar to the story in "The Expanse" (although set in the future world of interplanetary turmoil). The Ascension had the potential to go further than it's initial "socio-political" soap opera that the first season majorly delved in, and the appearance of the "wunderkind" was I guess, supposed to lead the series into a new direction by adding a "superbeing" and some inexplicable metaphysical events into the mix of socio-political tensions which was slowly killing everyone on board. Whatever it could be, I was left distraught at the fact that a series teeming with high ratings potential was unceremoniously canceled. With no announcements of whether a new season was coming up, not even a reason for it's cancellation (or none that I know of) it felt like I got thrown under the bus. In cases like this, the audience is always the loser. Sad.
I've noticed that they canceled so many great shows because of Covid. I am not sure when this came out or if this was a part of those shows that were canceled. But I was watching a few great shows on Netflix. They were actually already in the middle of shooting the second season of 1. That was in 2020. I doubt that show will ever come to light like so many others. It's a shame, especially when people don't catch on to a show they really get into liking after it has already aired and they aren't counting the ratings any longer. So much has changed since just regular cable, the advertising of TV shows are very different today than it was even 5 years ago, lol. This show definitely had potential. Who knows, maybe it will come back. Probably with different actors and actresses by then, though.
@@floursandroses You're quite right about your observations however, the Ascension came out much earlier (2016 if I'm not mistaken), so I guess it would pretty much be too late to revive it if there are any plans at all to do so. Also, if I may, many shows on Netflix probably got embroiled in the woke business/controversies which may have resulted in their cancellations or prevented their airing. That's mostly the infos one could gather from the sleuth of TH-cam vloggers that speak on this topic as regards streaming networks shows.
This show came out in 2014. It was not canceled because of covid or "lack of woke propaganda". At the time, SyFy channel was trying to strike gold again like with Battlestar Galactica. The over all rating were good but not great. Very much like Netflix has been doing recently and Fox has been doing for decades.
This was a limited miniseries that only had 6 planned episodes. The conclusion is there: Christa’s teleportation abilities were the real goal and Harris makes it clear that the project is a success. It’s not a canceled show or a cliffhanger-just a small scene at the end conforming what the project was about.
If I remember right, the party wasn't the point of no return it was the half way point. On a generation ship with constant thrust the point of no return is about 1/4 of the way there. If your trip was intended to take 100 years, you'd normally start slowing after 50 years to be at a relative stop at your destination after 100 years. If you started slowing to return to Earth after 25 years, it would take another 25 years to stop, then another 25 years of heading back to earth to get to your same velocity you were when you decided to go back, then another 25 years to slow back down for earth. So, after 25 years, your trip is going to take another 75 years whether you go back to earth or continue to your destination. The one huge flaw I remember about that series is that with a ship where gravity is caused by acceleration, at some point you have to go zero G to turn the ship around to start decelerating. But zero G is really hard to fake on earth and a LOT of the crew would need to be in on the scam. (even if you put most of the ship to sleep) The other flaw is that they pretty much HAVE to kill everyone on the ship at some point. At some point the end of the trip is supposed to happen and then what? They open the doors and let them out and tell the survivors, 'Sorry, we wasted your entire lives to gather data for our experiment." Nobody is going to just let that go. First they go to the press, then they get a lawyer, then they go on a witch hunt for everybody involved. The only solution is to kill them all to keep it quiet.
And that instant-messaging shit. First that someone would even consider sending a message to the Earth, while being at the "point of no return". And then at 3:45 the Earth has received a message from the ship. WHAT? You would have to WASH the Earth with constant repeats on all radio frequency with 1960 technology. Where does that power comes from? And then Proxima Centaury is 4.2 ly away, so if the point of no return is at the 25% the radio waves would have to travel at least 1 ly at the light speed, so for a full fucking year. And obviously someone would have to expect that active transmission, so it cannot be a secret ffs, even radio amateurs would pick that shit up. Oh man, such a crap show, why am I watching this.
There'd be a small period of Zero G while the ship rotates to begin deceleration. How long this is depends on how fast the ship can orient. Faking Zero-G for this period would probably be doable if its short enough considering the amount of effort it'd take to fake the rest of it.
@@SMScarlet It wouldn't be possible with todays technology and an unlimited budget. The only way to simulate zero G is to be in something that's falling at the same rate that gravity accelerates it. (like NASA's vomit comet) While you could dig a miles deep pit under the Ascension silo and drop the entire silo, you'd have to exceed 1 g of deceleration just to get it stopped again. And a spacecraft like the Ascension is supposed to be would never be able to boost to 1.5 to 2 g's then drop back down to 1 G in the time needed to explain the sudden increased gravity of it slowing to avoid hitting the bottom of the pit. Also, anyone on the ship with the slightest grasp of physics would realize that the turn was phony by watching the way things move in the supposed Zero g. Something at the exact center of mass of the ship would sit still and the room it was in would rotate around it. Anything toward either end of the ship would sit still while one of the walls would move toward it as the ship rotated past the object. If they had people dumb enough to fool with fake zero g, they're probably dumb enough to believe that someone on the lower deck invented artificial gravity for the ship so they might as well just tell that story instead.
I didn't like the supernatural weirdness, which I was hoping would turn out to actually be alien interference. I also didn't like the twist of it being an isolation experiment because I was all in on the fake premise. When they went full soap opera murder mystery, I tolerated it thinking they were setting up something more sci-fi based like maybe a class revolt on the ship, maybe a veer off course, etc.

Ascension was actually a very good series, but the big reveal that it was all just a simulation actually ruin the show.
