This video is genuinely extremely well done and tells a narrative that a lot of lego builders can relate to with their own stories around the plastic pieces
The video really took a different turn there at the end... really left me thinking. Totally agree with you, buying & building so many more LEGO sets now as an AFOL really has taken the novelty away that I used to get as a kid. The sets aren't any less special, but now I can spend a few hundred a month on sets when before I had to wait for special occasions or holidays.. What a masterpiece 👏 Great work!
Dude, I didn’t expect this. This was actually really touching, as I, like you, am in this phase of collecting old sets I’d always wanted. But you really hit the nail on the head in the end about why LEGO meant so much back then. The fact that why it doesn’t feel like it used to isn’t just bc of the company’s integrity, but rather us as more mature buyers, really hit home. Amazing editing, funny as usual, but also really heartfelt. Thank you for that!
I love that "The Dream" is something shared amongst lego fans. I've had a handful, usually about power miners and ninjago. Its crazy how some toys can massively affect someones life
I remember when i got my first ninjago set i immediatly built it and i was so happy, i miss those simpler times, thank you so much for making this video that brought me back into my childhood
The dream lego set of my childhood was The Ghost (from SW Rebels, the show I still love). Now I am building a massive moc of it and it just feels so great to finally own something in lego I always wanted. Totally can feel your joy!
Jack you deserve to hit 1 million subs. This is probably my favourite of all your videos (and they’re all incredible) and tells a lot about how sometimes LEGO builders feel. Thank you so much, don’t stop making these videos.
Such an awesome video man! Really got me in the feels. It seems harder and harder to capture that childhood happiness these days, and I think you hit the nail on the head.
This was a next level video. This is something I think about a lot but never know how to describe it, but you managed to put it into words perfectly. Very relatable.
Thank you for saying Cars 2 is the best in the series; it's a great movie and deserves more love. This video reminds me of all the Lego sets from the past I've always wanted or have bought second hand. I feel bad that I didn't get into Lego properly until age 9. I can relate to that nostalgic feeling.
This video actually went deep. It made me realize that we’ve been taking older LEGO for granted. They we’re all special and unforgettable but sadly they couldn’t be around LEGO forever. Generic Stud…you’re the goat! Also Cars 2 is great.
2:50 The Lego Dino line from 2012 remains one of my favorite Lego lines till this day. I know we have the JW sets now, but without those unique yellow vehicles and tiger striped dinosaurs, it’s just not the same.
This video made me go on the verge of tears, hero factory, ninjago, toy story, all of these lego These lego themes were such classics us children have never felt yet. Maybe one day they will come back from the dead.
I think this made us all appreciate lego so much more than we have before. Honestly, it kind of made me sad, realizing that we don't have time to appreciate sets, because were so busy collecting. Were not making the most out of what we have. You know it's a good video when it makes you think.
Killer video dude. I have a lot of thoughts about the subject matter of nostalgia and rose tinted glasses but I think you put it really well in this video. Bravo.
It's sad, but I feel like this is the beginning of the end.. This is a reminder of the fleeting nature of childhood passion. It's like we're witnessing the gradual distancing of oneself from a shiny object losing its luster and the inevitable consequence of growing up. Great video, @Generic Stud. Looking forward to what the future holds for you next!
Man I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and I literally feel everything you feel in regards to growing up with Legos. Your videos hit me with massive nostalgia blasts and I’m like 😫😫😫 I know what it’s like missing out on sets and then getting them when your older and your like 🤩🤩🤩 so really thank you for the videos. Gosh growing up we’d be like best friends
I came into this video expecting just another fun video from Generic Studs, but I came out thinking deeper about what Lego means in my life and the lives of other lego builders
This video was truly amazing. The last minute of the video I was getting goosebumps. It really made me think about the world and LEGO as a whole. Well done Generic Stud keep on building.
First, glad to see someone who appreciates Cars 2, but also yes, the way of buying LEGO Sets so inconsistently, only getting them for special occasions, really emphasized the importance of those memories.
I dont get lego very often ( maybe 2,3 a year ) and when i do i just cherish them and play with them daily. Im 14 and people say that playing with lego is for losers but idc because i know that it brings me joy to build lego and i like enjoying tge little things in life more than being miserable and judgy. Great vid much respect from serbia
I actually had a weird Lego dream like years and years ago and it was the ultimate edition of the fire vs ice Chima set which had loads of sets in 1 box which I believe only 2 were made for the final magazine’s competition and the dream was basically about me ordering 1 out of the 2 quantity and then saying “this will make up for the Chima sets I missed” and then building it but then was disappointed when I thought it really happened when it was just a dream
I was starting to quit Lego cause everyone was like grow up but somehow I found hope and may others too Lego is just real nostalgia even tho I only had few original sets I didn’t matter when I just drop all my Lego on carpet and somehow just build something out of it with your feelings Lego is important I love you guys especially you generic stud
7:39 I’m glad that you have enough money to pay for everything you want but I still have to crunch the numbers and plan for what I can afford for my collection.
I remember in middle school, on the last day on 6th grade we had a party in math class and were asked to bring games. So I brought a giant ziplock bag of all my Ninjago spinners, cards, minifigs etc. (Man I miss the Spinjitzu game!) and I asked my classmates if they wanted to play. A group of boys did agree so I taught them how to play and it was really fun. Back then I think we can agree gender very much divided toys, and it's safe to say Ninjago back in its early days was targeted toward boys. So it made me really happy that these boys didn't feel embarrassed playing LEGO Ninjago Spinjitzu with a girl. We had a good time and that was a really fond memory for me. There were so many sets I wanted as a child (mostly Ninjago, but some other themes too) but me and my family couldn't afford them. But now I'm an adult, and I'm determined to fuel my inner child and get the sets I wanted back then!
I wish Lego would have those smaller $7 sets again as well as more original themes. I kind of feel like Lego have improved in detail, but not in how fun their sets are. I feel grateful to have grown up in the golden era of Lego, a d I feel bad for today's kids, because they will never know the joy of walking into stores and seeing a ton of Lego on the shelves, with a nice selection of themes and sets.
This video is genuinely extremely well done and tells a narrative that a lot of lego builders can relate to with their own stories around the plastic pieces
