    The XLINK is such a cool gadget. I make and receive all my phone calls when I'm at home on my old phones. I have a Western Electric Model 500 desk set from 1966, a Model 302 desk set from 1947, and a Princess Model 2702 from 1984, and they all ring and dial out with the XLINK. It makes phone calls so much more fun!

    I want to know if you can slam down the handset on robo calls. That is what I am missing about cell phones. Hanging up with a swipe is unsatisfying. 😂

      Yes! You can slam down that rotary phone and it will end the call on your smartphone.

    I have one that I use at work with a Western Electric 500 rotary dial set. My work area is noisy, so I have a handset with a noise canceling transmitter which works much better than the iPhone mic (especially since it has the ruggedized weatherproof case). By the way, if you dial a number that answers with “if you know your parties extension, please dial it now”, you CAN do it with the rotary dial (the cell phone or system converts it to Touchtone). The only downside is you can’t dial “*” or “#” with it.

    My phone line is part of my interent package. The internet modem is upstairs and I want to have the rotary phone downstairs. The rotary phone works when plugged directly into the modem. I have wifi extenders downstairs and a Phone to Ethernet adapter. How can I get the Rotary phone to work downstairs? Will the Xlink work? Am I able to connect the Rotary phone to the Xlink and then the Xlink to the wifi extender to have it ring? And will It work on its own existing number that I use for the landline?
    Im racking my brain trying to get this to work but I just don't know what to do ! :( if you have any suggestions thank you!

    • @BreaTheBrat
      @BreaTheBrat  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think the Xlink will work your wifi like that. You need a bluetooth device to connect the Xlink to.

      That is odd. I have run into some problems but I usually just reset the bluetooth and it is fine. I hate to be the one to say did you turn it off and on. I have an android maybe there is something in the iPhone settings on bluetooth?

    Hello. I am preparing to buy one of these Xlink gateways myself.
    I was wondering about the pulse dialing. Is there an app or configuration somehow?
    Thanks in advance

    • @BreaTheBrat
      @BreaTheBrat  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It does the pulse and tone dialing no problem. No extra app needed. It does seem to take a little longer to catch up on pulse but you do not have to wait between numbers. Just dial the whole number and it will lag a little before it starts ringing.

      If you were to pop over to ebay and search ' western electric bluetooth ' you can look at desk telephones that have Bluetooth inside, do get a good look at the photos. Reading the description it says that the desk telephones are from Western Electric made back in 1960's. All of the converted telephones work as if you have gone back in time, dial tone, the original ring works when a call comes in (NOT a download sound clip!) make calls too using the dial. That Xlink needs wires. The western electric telephones on that guys ebay page are WIRELESS just like your cellphone!

    Hi! Does the Bluetooth stay connected even when far away from it? So if I leave home will it still ring the rotary phone? Or do I have to reconnect each time I get home so that it works?

    • @BreaTheBrat
      @BreaTheBrat  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bluetooth only connects when your cell phone is in range of it. The range on mine is not that great. Mine loses connection about 30 ft away.

  • @SomnoNaut

    I have an truly old phone with mouthpiece and ear phone, no dialing, and want to put it in use as an extension to only talk on via bluetooth to my landline. What do you suggest?

    • @BreaTheBrat
      @BreaTheBrat  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think the first question is if it has a wall jack end on the cord or just wires sticking out. Some pre 1940's phone were just wired in. I believe you could put the wires in a wall jack end but you would need to be careful. Than you can just use your landline. No bluetooth needed. But if there is no dial, you could only answer calls or dial on another phone and swicth to the antique phone. I believe that if you used a smart phone hooked up to an Xlink and the antique phone that you maybe able to use your smart phones programmed voice commands to dial someone up. Now I want to find and antique phone and try this. For example- pick up the mouth piece, listen for the dial tone and say Siri call mom.

    Ha lol I paid 74 bucks lol idk if it's where you live but in florida it was like 74 and tax, but I love it. I have it hooked up to a red cherry firehydrant rotary telephone in excellent shape. I'm gona enjoy talking to my friends on this phone, I might buy a black one and a baby blue one next and perhaps a white one. I also have a beige one connected to my parents landline that I use as a 2nd phone along with our cordless ones, but you have the cooler phones lol

      So you don't use a land line at all? Just get power to the box then plug the phone in and pair the box to the cell phone?

    • @BreaTheBrat
      @BreaTheBrat  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No landline or any other service needed. Just your cellphone service. You just pair your cellphone bluetooth and all your cell calls will go through the old phone. you can dial with the rotary, it has dialtone, and rings. It is a great way to experience the use of these phones without the full commitment of landline or other services.

    Question: How many corded telephones can be connected to the Xlink? Since they draw energy for them to ring there must be a limit to how many can be connected. Maybe there is a REN rating with the Xlink.

    • @BreaTheBrat
      @BreaTheBrat  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. There are 2 jacks in mine which I assume means 2 phones can operate fine. However I do not think it is meant to operate a full household of phones.

    • @Inflec
      @Inflec 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Brea The Brat - I wouldn't expect such a small gadget to ring a household full of phones. If it has two jacks then it must be like the Verizon Home Phone Connect that I use. It's rated for two telephones so I'll assume that's the capacity of the Xlink as well. It would work for me.

    retro's are not really old phones. I wonder if the real old rotary phones work with a xlink

    • @BreaTheBrat
      @BreaTheBrat  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      2 of the phones are retro reproduction and the other 2 are original 60's or 70's phones. Any phone that has a standard wall jack cord will work with the xlink. Older 20's and 30's phones might not have a standard wall jack cord. The ones I have seen, like and original candlestick kind, just have bare wires.

    Does your phone have to be unlocked?

    • @BreaTheBrat
      @BreaTheBrat  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      All you need is a Bluetooth connection. Once you set it up on your cellphone, you do not need to do anything else. It will automatically go through the phone plugged into the X-link. As long as the cellphone is in range of the X-link (like 30ft). If you are referring to jailbreaking a smartphone, no that is not necessary at all.

  • @computerjantje

    what the...?? what are its limitations? I cam here to get pro's and cons

    • @BreaTheBrat
      @BreaTheBrat  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry, it was more about testing the phones. Apparently the price has gone up on the newer versions of the Xlink. The Xlink is a good device if you have a cell phone contract and don't want to add a monthly landline bill just to use your vintage phones. That is why I bought it anyway.
      However, it works with your cell phones bluetooth so it has a limited range (around 15 - 20 ft.). But all you need to do is set done your phone near the device and use the vintage phone for calls no problem. I did find that it does drain the cell phone battery when it is just out of range trying to connect.
