Enjoyed your review. I'm a relatively new fan of the Killers. I enjoyed some of their early stuff but really haven't listened to anything else they've released since the early 2000's. I really enjoyed their new single "Caution" and I thought it had a bit of an 80's vibe to it. This new single, "Fire in Bone", I love even more and it definitely has an 80's vibe to it. Can't wait to hear the rest of the album.
This is a beautifully inspired song telling the Prodigal Son story. I really like the feel of the Talking heads/Cure influence as well. The Prodigal Son story IS one sided. God is the giver.
In terms of the one-sided relationship, I don’t know who Brandon may have been singing too, but he was definitely inspired by the story of the Prodigal Son in Biblical scripture. If you check out Luke 15: 20-22 in the King James Version, it tells of a son coming home and a father running to meet him. (Met me in the road) In the KJV the line even is “fell on his neck”. That line stuck out to me and I knew I had heard it before. So in that light, it really is a beautiful redemptive story of a son who took his inheritance and wasted it foolishly (after all that I took from you, after all that I put you through), ready to come back and be a servant to his father to make up for his mistakes, and the father’s unconditional love that invites his wayward son home with open arms.
Fire in bone could also be a reference to Jeremiah saying that the word of God was like a fire in his bones, something that he couldn’t separate himself from or keep in even if he tried.
While not perfect I do think that Caution does deserve some credit. It's formulaic but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. There is a formula for a reason, also calling anything the Killers make formulaic is a bit of a stretch to begin with. Honestly, I loved Caution and I personally liked it better than Fire in Bone though I did feel a lot more emotional investment in Fire in Bone. That's my take on it anyway
Hi Kyle, I for one am too a fan of the Killers. I had Battle Born on my iPod when it came out and indulged immensely. On one listen alone... i am more on the side of LIKE of the fence. If they go that way it may turn out to be an interesting listen. Ah.... corona.... delaying everything in our lives.... essential.... and music as I know it is for you as well.... it will impact releases..... stores opening.... changing their hours. Already I am about a month being in my deliveries from Amazon. Good times. Thank you and sorry for my subpar attitude. I am am not a happy camper these days but thankfully angels like you and the rest of the VC are there to help me along. Tino

Yes, I’m feeling optimistic about the new album. I hope this new song is indicative of what we should expect!
Ooooh yeah, you gotta love the 80's vibe

Thanks for this review. I love The Killers too!

That's a fair assessment. "Formulaic" isn't always bad, you're right.

In these difficult times, we really need the music, so it sucks when we lose out on even that! Can’t wait for life to get back to normal!
@@TrackXTrack Yes, I as well... but it will need to be gradual.... we don't want to have to restart this all over again. As difficult that would be.
“Please be good Please be good”
I say before watching review...🤞🏻
I thought it was quite good! Much better than “Caution” which was formulaic sonic wallpaper.
Track X Track I typically avoid singles and wait for album release. I may have to check it out.
That’s a good habit, though I don’t do it myself. Don’t let me sway you. It’s a good song, and it will still be good when the whole album drops.
